  • I talk about what I believe the best starting heroes and mutators are for the default start of Urtuk. Just my opinion at this point in my career.

Spearman, because he wasn't covered it, is an amazing tank. Spear wall keeps him safe from melee attacks and platemail is very strong armor. Holding a position can be very important to keep dealing damage once the enemies outnumber you.
Tanks are probably the second best Urtuk choice behind priest. The Guardian and the Spearman excel at controlling space. The Spearman keeps enemies from getting in while the Guardian pushs (not stalwart) enemies out. I would consider the Footman (billhook) a tank as well, he is good for locking down dangerous enemies, holding chock points and chasing archers.

There's really no right or wrong choice, but since Urtuk will never be able to go on a mission, it's best not to take a "slow learner".
As you progress through the game, you will have the option of recruiting ranger specialized legendary characters (Amos and Wiktor). So, since you cannot banish Urtuk, I do not recommend taking rangers into the role from Urtuk.
But I confirm, nothing is really bad. The important thing remains the synergy in the team, the complementarity. Everyone has to adapt to their gameplay.
Thank you very much for these episodes on Urtuk.
    I valid :)

Looks like an interesting game, good luck with the series. Its a good thing to add a bit of diversity to the channel.

I personally have footman for dps. Since bumping is so strong and they hit multiple units - and have really high agility so they go multiple times a turn lategame - when you focus them properly they're DEADLY.

For Mutators I recommend taking those that cost a lot of life essence and are rare or stackable. Monster heart, Atletic, Brilliant mind, tiring crits and best in experience. Light foot is inexpensive as well as common. Same with Improviser

For mutators you want something that you can't otherwise get. Example: Need extra health? Put points in vitality instead of picking monster heart. Your mutator slots and absorption slots are few and valuable. Still you are half right. Easy to get mutators are good for combining and should not be absorbed.

Lately I've been running Urtuk as bloodknight, as with increased mobility and decent healing he's very survivable.
That said one of my bests runs had Urtuk as priest and he rolled into multiple defensive mutators, eventually just serving as a frontline tank, getting his aegis ult to come online every other hit.
Footman's my favorite unit in human faction, tho I'm not sure how to build it. Having ram and engaging strikes you can really lock down a target, tho you need to invest into fatigue, as every hit burns some. If you luck out into Strong vs Ranged you can have a footman decimate their supports without them having an option to retreat.

How does that BK do early? I love the footman myself, I pump stam to get 152/62 and HP. STR isn't worth much and I usually don't level CON, but that may be bad idrk.

@@CarveaHole BK early is all about mobility and target priority. Unlocking patience and strongVS you can take out squishies and lightly armoroured enemies with a couple of jump attacks, not to mention dance around any zoc and elevation blockers. With a couple of focus buffs(mainly sure crit and occasional aegis purge) you can even hold your ground versus like 3 enemies, hitting the heal cap every turn.

I was torn between blood knight and jav. Went Jav in the end. On the surface, I only wanted blood knight for the lifesteal and figured I could extract a mutator for that ability later.

Oh I can do Footman advice! I'm a bit late to the party though.
Footman with high stamina is a good choice. I like to stop after achieving ~145* so he can lock down whomever he has charged like an archer. With a lot of Stamina, Engaging Strike can get a lot of work done. Also acting first is really nice.
Concentration can also be really good. I gave my Footman (I named him Shredder.. I'm a child 😅) Concentration as in the focus talent. He'd fill up my bar with it it was great. Armor rend is also very good for him.
Hit points, is good on everyone. The Footman is going to get hit, more then most of you other characters because of Engaging Strike and Ram. I try to isolate non-armor piercing targets early game and early in battle so the armor gets stretched out as long as possible. Ideally you want him to take hits so you squishy allies don't.
Game design for the Footman seems to make him a "skirmisher". Running around disturbing formations. Kind of a hammer and anvil situation. Either as hammer or anvil he preforms well. Assassin is a natural companion to quick kills, and a Bezerker for tanks. But their are plenty of situation where he is dangerous on his own. Most obviously Ramming things into pits, and bashing things against terrain, even allies. Sadly long reach doesn't apply any status effects, but extra damage is damage.
Last thought, I swear. (I got sweaty) Damage! If you spam every damage increase possible on this guy. He wrecks! He is going to get extra hits, effectively multiple any damage modifier. And this is by default. No other investment needed. Thoughtlessly stack him with strumf, and he'll careen face first. Turning those unfortunate to be in a 6 tile range of him to adorable red (sometimes teal) skid marks. Sure he'll be a squish, hide him behind a real tank... oh like a footman! And watch to two of them waltz around skewering poorly positioned AI forces on the flanks.
*(50 for the charge, and 25x3 to keep most enemies from moving. Above 125 so you don't go too far in the negative)

I play on epic. Medicine helps to clear boss fights and bases. Even if you reload the map and try a few times, you might just have to sac someone to suceed on like 6 vs 17+boss. Both sides can 1 Turn combo a unit out.
