For me, its always about a mix of @Redken Shades EQ Gloss shades to get the BEST result...

Hi Craig love your videos. Can you please do a video on substitutes for these formulas when using permanent cream tints. I am so tired of toning tutorials that use Redken Shades EQ. Not all salons use Shades Eq because it is so expensive. Can you perhaps do a video where you give alternative permanent color cream formulas for these example the first color you showed looks like a lilac toner with a 12.111 and the second one you showed looks like a 12.111 and your last one looks like 8.01ash. Would appreciate it. I always struggle with hair that is too orange/red and always try to use a blue green and even my matt colors but somehow the orange within the hair still shines through. I dont think I formulate incorrectly...I think that the peroxide that lifts the natural hair just make the underlaying warmth very dominating.

I agree that SEQG is expensive but I would never tone the hair with permanent colour - not even mixed with a “pastel” developer, as it could shift the base and/or expose warmth.
I haven’t used them extensively but there are Shades EQ dupes out there at a lower price point that might be good…or a cream demi perhaps..?
Part of the reason SEQG does such a great job is that it’s part Demi + part direct dye, that’s why it cancels out warmth so well.
If I remember correctly, (apologies, I’m right in the middle of editing next weeks video) the formulas in this video are all on a level 7-8 - in one of my recent toning videos (there’s a playlist) I talk about “toning on the level” to get rid of orange…it might be helpful…?
@@theworldofcraig Thank you so much for the reply. Yes I totally agree.....the permanent color cream lifts the base and exposes warmth. I am going to blind buy the Kaypro range of toners....they are also gel base and even the 60ml bottles resembles the shades EQ range....it also comes with a special developer at 6.5vol. Have you maybe ever heard of the brand? Thank you love all your tutorials and advise.

Hi Craig! You are amazing, so informative and so easy to listen to and understand.
So im delving into shades eq, wanting to lift my red henna and fade in my growing out whites/dark grey mix. Stand test shows i can get to a 7-8 yellow. I toned with 9T and 9B, but got an awful green dark grey.
I realise i need to add on some violets and possibly a neutral like 9P and 8NA? Maybe less 9B? And maybe i processed too long.
Any advice??

So that’s quite a big question - there’s an entire playlist on hair colour theory here on my channel - but the reason you got that result is the B-blue and the gold made the green.
Shades EQ Gloss is way cooler than people think - I would recommend (and this is not an exact formula, I need to see hair in person to be specific) a N/VB mix on the lifted base you mention…but again, the VB’s are very punchy, so be careful.

Hi Craig I use 6NA and 06N but I’m still seeing some orange tones in my dark hair with my highlights can I add anything else to neutralise this?
Hi there. Perhaps add a little 8VB (that’s without me seeing your hair) but be warned, it’s very powerful and will make the result look deeper and darker.
@@theworldofcraig Thank you for answering I’m not afraid of a deeper, darker tone, my hair is naturally a rich dark brown with no red tones so even if it goes “wrong” I’m ok with it but how many mls would you say, so for example I mix up 30ml of colour equal parts of 15ml of both colours with 30ml of developer how many mls of what you advise would you add? Can I use 8vb on its own? I’ve tried adding 8n and it makes my hair too dark.
You sure can - but as it’s “cooler” than 8N the result will be darker.
Can I add a splash of 8T to 8N and 8VB for a bit of silver tone? Thank you so much!! :)
You can…but it really depends what canvas it’s going on. If it’s a level 8 it won’t look silver.

Can you use these on grey hair to brighten it i let my hair go grey its a dark grey but can get a bit warm i like it to be cool tone
So they won’t “brighten” or lighten but they are great to make grey hair “cooler”, neutralising warmth.
