    I'm letting my natural gray/white grow out. What can I use on the gray/white to 'brighten' it removing slight yellowing. You did such a great job. Your hair was beautiful to start with...and then more

    • @deborahol
      @deborahol ปีที่แล้ว

      A toner will almost certainly take out the yellowing and make it look a lot cleaner. Before that though, try a purple shampoo first. They can do the same thing and it's a lot easier. Buy a decent one and wear gloves so the purple doesn't get on your nails. You might find that that's all you need. Purple shampoo is also good for blonde hair that is yellowing.

    • @BeautybySheilaLynn
      @BeautybySheilaLynn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @ladybaabaa3294
      @ladybaabaa3294 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@madisonstoyandresortreview You can buy a "crystal clear" toner which is like all the other Shades EQ toners but it's clear and apart from giving your hair a gorgeous gloss, it dilutes the other toners it's mixed with, so any purple etc will be more subtle. Also, applying Shades EQ toners on wet hair will provide a more subtle and gentle result.

    Hi, thanks for the informative video! You are adorable. You are not weird at all talking about avoiding coloring your hair while on your period. I have an extensive medical background and your hormones change drastically during your cycle (pretty obvious) but less obvious is that these hormones are directly connected to your hair. The hormones are controlled by a part of the left kidney, weird, yeah, but true! You are SO cool for giving this advise. Anyone else listening should follow this advise. I wonder if men have a time that they need to avoid too, lol.

Can I please ask you a question because I can’t get a hold of the girl that did my hair that I trust before it was cut. I need to do my roots, but she was using a Redken toner and she was making my hair Peach blonde or blond not platinum blonde but way blonder than my photo on TH-cam. I have dark brown roots so I use 40 volume level lift and I don’t know what toner to use. I would even be willing to cash app you for the answer, so I don’t fuck up my hair, I know time is money. Will applying it in these sections make one area process longer than another due to the time it takes to apply. ? Making an inconsistent result? Dry hair, not wet? Always so unsure

    • @BeautybySheilaLynn
      @BeautybySheilaLynn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there! Usually the results aren’t inconsistent enough to even notice because you have to start somewhere lol. Dry or wet hair is fine. The results are usually better on dry hair, or they last longer, just Because it absorbs the color better. When it’s wet it’s really just to neutralize the unwanted tones vs the dry hair acts more like a dye than a toner. Hope this helps!!

    • @Flooorine
      @Flooorine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is always my question too. The left (our right) side is processing a little longer than the other side. But clearly it doesn’t matter that much! :) What I understand even less is how this works with bleaching, that goes faster than toning right?

    • @NicquiMadden
      @NicquiMadden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Flooorine Hey Flo - yes, you've got to be very quick (both doing your roots with bleach, and applying the toner). Maximum development time for Redken Shades EQ is 20 minutes, so you want to make sure you get through the application pretty quick in order for the product to do it's thing in the 20 minutes. I try to do each side equally - eg top front left, then move to the top front right etc and keep going like that - so that the colour is more even.

      Hi! So I always say that to cover grays you want to use a permanent hair color with a double color. Like a 7NN. In this case the semi permanent toner might cover them temporarily but they will sneak back soon! I know cause I have a few too 🥺 it’s more subtle than permanent though so you might like the results for a little while. • @BeautybySheilaLynn
      @BeautybySheilaLynn  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Janet! So the toner can alter your natural hair color when used with the correct developer. If it is previously colored then it won’t lift or change that in any way. Color doesn’t lift color. But virgin hair is a different story. Hope that helps!

      Beauty by Sheila Lynn yeah my roots are getting darker every year and very moist and dull so when I highlight it clashes more than a decade ago when I was more light dirty blonde root. So I think an 8 toner would be good. What do you think? When I went to salons the toner they did I think was a 9 and I left upset cuz it was so ashy and I like more honey gold or pinch darker, no orange or red reflections.

      Hi brandy. Your outcome always depends on what you start with. Toners always help combat the unwanted tones you have right now. You can always add clear but it dilutes the mixture-basically takes it down a notch every time you add it. Good luck!

  • @cupcake4181
    @cupcake4181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Watching this confused me so much cause there are few things completely speaking against what my hair dresser said 😂
    - she used it on wet hair
    - she said you have to develop it for 25 mins cause anything shorter than that means the process won't be finished and make it look weird
    - 9 will be too dark for this kind of blonde so you either have to use the 10 tones OR you use 9 but with this gloss solution to dilute it. You only used the procession solution, nothing to dilute it, right?
    - she mixed it with a 1:1 ratio not 1:2
    I wanted to use it tomorrow but so confused now cause it is just the opposite of how she used it 😂

    • @sue8412
      @sue8412 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      According to the directions, you are meant to use it on dry hair. A lot of people use it on wet hair though, as long as it is thoroughly towel dried. If you let it develop for a lesser amount of time (20-40 min is the recommended time), the color may not deposit fully and may fade faster. Every minute is roughly equivalent to 1 wash. The mixing ratio is 1:1. Also, you have to make sure you apply it quickly - using a slant tip bottle for global application is fast and thorough as long as you section.

    • @sue8412
      @sue8412 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dilute it with clear gloss if you are looking for a higher level - so if you want a level 10 toner and you have the level 9, add clear. this helps especially on the ends, which may be more porous and become over toned. Hope this helps!

    • @BeautybySheilaLynn
      @BeautybySheilaLynn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi again! I’m so sorry to have confused you! It’s always best to go to a professional but if you can’t these are just things I’ve learned along the way! Toner scan be used on wet or dry hair. Everyone’s outcome is different depending on how high you have lifted the hair with bleach prior to toning. If it’s really blonde 25 minutes may result in too much of the base color absorbing. If it’s a neutral toner then 25 minutes is ok as it won’t turn purple or blue. Let me be clear when I say any hair color can be used as a toner depending on what level of blonde you want to achieve. I don’t know how anyone else was taught but I learned that fact a long time ago from some old school hair dressers who paved the way for all the bujjee ones lol that call things by weird names. I’m as honest as they come about hair and I call a spade a spade. It doesn’t have to be a level 10 or higher on the label to be a toner. Also; all toners should be mixed 1 part color 2 parts developer to dilute the potency. That way like I said before the base color doesn’t over deposit on the hair giving it a slight tint of whatever the base color used is. Redken toners are pretty dummy proof lol don’t be nervous. It’s only a Demi/semi permanent hair color so it will wash out in like 8-10 washes.
