Who was Esarhaddon? The Life of an Ancient Assyrian King

- It's always fascinating to get a glimpse into someone's life, especially if that person lived thousands of years ago, especially especially if they were a paranoid King whose father was murdered by his brother. That was the life of Esarhaddon, the 7th century BCE King of Assyria and thanks to the massive amounts of writing they left behind we can get a taste of what his life was like.

we could never have assyrian culture depicted in movies today , because they refer very openly about the fact that there was a hybridisation between black and white headded people
The bearded ones were violent psychopaths with little brains, the druids were the ones who did everything - the tech, the agriculture, the religion, anything intellectual like writing or crafting was done by the druids.

I know this is an old video, but I wanted to say again how much I appreciate your work. When I started watching you, you reminded me of my dad. I was planning to show him some of your videos. He died last week, and now I'm sitting in his study, next to a bookshelf filled with stuff about the levant, watching your videos. He was an academic who specialized in old testament Bible with a focus on the historical context in which they were written. My first job was creating HTML links on an interactive guide to the book of Amos he'd created. He loved technology as a way of teaching people. I hadn't seen him for a while until he got sick, and I'm really sad I can't introduce him to your channel. I'm sure he'd find all your videos interesting. Your beard, short sleeve shirt, and that happy smile when you're talking about a topic that you enjoy is fantastic to see in someone else. You remind me that while he's gone, there are still great people in the world. Sorry if that's a bit much. Keep up the good work!

Have you read 'violence and the sacred' by rene girard? He details in length the possible reasoning behind the role of kings and how they may have originally been often sacrificed by the community as a sort of communal purification to stave off collective violence.. A really fascinating read I'm not smart enough to explain in detail but this video reminded me of that book.
also try redirecting your light a bit, unless you're going for the glowing saint look in which case keep it up. often you can reflect the light off a blank white piece of matte paper for a similar yet less washed out lighting effect on the cheap. matte, not glossy.
Well this is why I film outside now. The backgrounds are more interesting and the lighting is more natural. Haven't read the book, I'd be interested to check it out though.
The whole reason that religion exists as a mono deity, is precicely because, in the two class assyrian state, after the moses-esque hybridising of the two classes, the people wouldnt stop murdering their own ruler.
So they invented one great big massive god, and then they dressed up like that god , in temples, with secret corridors so you can escape a mob.
Otherwise they would have kept to their primitive sun worship and blood sacfrifice.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Assyrians there is an assyriologist at the British Museum called Irving Finkel who is an incredibly charismatic and engaging teacher who is a number of very interesting videos on TH-cam talking about various Assyrian items at the museum
The escape of Arda-Mullisi and Shar-Usur to Armenia/Ararat is also the beginning of the Armenian national epic (the two brothers founded the fortress-city of Sassoon, which is now in Turkey, south-west of lake Van). So where the official story ends, the Armenian folk history picks up. Their generations gave rise to some of the most recognizable heroes of Armenian folk tales, like David of Sassoon and Mher the Lion-slayer.
The founding brothers are known today as Sanasar and Baghdasar, but in older versions of the epic they were Sanasar and Abamelik/Adamelik. The story goes that they were born to an Armenian princess who was taken as a concubine, and escape up the Euphrates river back to Armenia.

Histamine is a hugely important neurotransmitter that _directly_ causes paranoia as well as all the physical symptoms you listed. So much of human history has been in part because of histamine histamine, and so much of human culture to this day is dedicated to controlling its effects (sex, art, religion, sport, drugs/alcohol, etc)

We are Assyrians. Northern Mesopotamia is part of the Assyrian heartland.
Nearly six million Assyrian Christians dot the world.
Mesopotamia is the homeland of the Assyrians. The famous royal cities of the Assyrians, Ashur, Nimrud (Kalhu), Arbela, Dur-Sharrukin and Nineveh were built in it. The Assyrians ruled for approximately 1,300 years - from about 2000 B.C. to 612/10 BC - in northern Mesopotamia an ancient landscape between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. A clear reference to the existence of the Assyrians, on the other hand, can already be found in the Old Testament (1st Book of Moses 2:14).

Hey, I just had a great idea for a movie or TV show: it is about the Assyrians, and one of those "eclipse" kings is the king we follow, and only after we are atttached to the king and think he is legit is it revealed to us, the audience, that he is just a stand-in.
Check out Fan of History for a super in-depth breakdown of the Neo-Assyrian Empire year by year. The show is currently up to Sennacherib so ya boy Esarhaddon will be spoken about soon enough and accounts of his paranoia are sure to be discussed.

Substitute King at 6:50 is similar to a Christian principal taught by Saint Paul regarding the first Adam and the second Adam. The first Adam is a stand in, and prefigures the pre-human Messiah who became the first born from the dead. The first Adam foreshadows the second Adam in a flawed way, in that he is unable to measure up to the LORD’s standards (The Torah). The first Adam is made from the dust the second Adam is made from the spirit of God. This is why we must follow Christ and die with him so that we may be raised with him. Adam #1 was setup to fail so that The LORD could shape him in his image. Think of him as a seed planted in the Earth, that would be pruned until it produced the seed of Adam #2. Adam #2 is also being pruned, we Christians are the branches. See John 15, Romans 5:12-21; & 1st Corinthians 15:12-34.

Read it as if it’s spelled with a “k” - Sennakherib.

Essarhaddon is the most fascinating ancient historical figure I've come across. Thanks for shedding some light on the stranger than fiction life of Essarhaddon for the masses. There is one thing more that adds that extra bit of unreality to his story that you left out: The city (Harran) where the priestess made her prophesy about the death of Essarhaddon was the same city that Essarhaddon eventually died in. If that wasn't enough- it was also the city where the very last of the Assyrian empire was snuffed out for good. Gotta love history.

isn't Sennacherib pronounced Se-nak-er-rib ??? That's because Middle Eastern Semitic languages like Assyrian, Hebrew, or Arabic refers to "ch" with a hard "k" sound? You know like Chanukkah where the Ch refers to a hard and breathy H sound. Pronouncing the "ch" like the sh sound as in chewy is found in Western European languages.

The proper pronunciation is beyond your ken, because you cannot say the eighth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, as this sound does not exist in English.
