Matt Gade well Matt, I do agree with you, but $2500 on a sub without any surround setup is great but when you add speakers and a receiver it’ll be double that depending on what you go with. Don’t forget you can add a subwoofer to this soundbar. I have a 5.1.4 Klipsch setup with a SVS sub and the power is incredible and I would take it any day over this soundbar. However I am curious how this soundbar would be with a dedicated sub attached. Pretty cool really.

Thanks for the review! Did you redo the calibration after putting the Ambeo on the box? Wonder if that may have had a impact on some of your findings. While at home my LINN 5.1 setup is amazing for my small condo this would be perfect!
2500 is a lot of money for a soundbar but if you buy a high end 5.1 or 7.1 setup it will cost you more. Hell my amp alone was that price. A soundbar is a good solution for some people good video 👍
Hi Shane, I noticed that you had the KEF LSX speakers in the video - does the AMBEO sound as good as those for music? Would be good to have a soundbar that is almost as good playing music as it is with movies.
I just bought this soundbar today. I have hooked it up with my LG CX using eARC but I'm not sure if I'm getting the best out of it. I have calibrated the soundbar using the microphone and tried playing 6 Underground on Netlfix using LG's Netflix app. I got 'Dobly Vision' pop-up on TV screen but no 'Dolby Atmos', which makes sense as it is passing through Dolby Atmos to the soundbar to process it. Sounbar shows HDMI TV + ATMOS on its small LED screen when playing the movie. I have also tried few Disney+ shows that support Atmos. I'm not sure if need to change any setting in Sennheiser app to enhance the experience. App shows 'Dobly Atmos' code with channels set to 'objects'. In Dobly DRC settings I have turned it Off and Dolby Virtualizer is off as well. Should 'Dolby Virtualizer' be on? Can you please make a detailed video on setting you use for Dobly Atmos content? Sennheiser is not so great with providing that information through the app. Can you please help me out? Thanks!
Hi I will like to buy this soundbar also. I have question about if it's make any sense to buy it for apartment building, and not a private house. Can i really use the potential of the soundbar without disturb the neighbors? Or it's just to much for apartment building?
Companies are starting to make passive soundbars. So I think if anyone absolutely wants a soundbar. I'd recommend looking into getting one passive. That way you can have an actual reciever. You can buy what ever satellite speakers for your rears or heights. And buy whatever subwoofer you want. you'll be getting alot more for your money If you buy the equipment yourself and do the right research. You can even find a company to do the installation for you, for about the price you'd spend on the Sennheiser. So this is cool, but in my opinion, not really worth it.
@FOMO on tech I understand that, I love simplicity and I'm not against soundbars. But dude, for 2500 bucks? There are so many other options. The klipsch Bar 48 makes the most sense in my opinion. It's not Atmos, but it decodes lossy and lossless Dolby and DTS formats. its a whole 5.1 soundbar package for literally 748.00. yes the soundbar, sub, and rears in one package. Not "virtual" 5 channels. And if you want, you can replace the included 8" sub with a more beefy klipsch sub of your choice. Which is a fair price in my opinion. Or even a Vizio Atmos soundbar. One model has a 10" subwoofer and rear channels for an actual 5.1.4 setup. Probably won't sound better than the klipsch but still is a better deal than a 2.5k virtual surround soundbar. Hell, for that amount id just buy in wall speakers and have some guys professionally install the whole system
@@gabe6959 well you need to understand that people who buy this soundbar dont save money- they just have in account, then they look for best option, its like you when buy clothes you put to sort from low price to high, and there are people who do other way round, looking from high to low, in your option klipsch - then go for it, let others do own opinion ;) for some 2500 is years wage, some earns in hour and everyone want treats.
Agreed Charlie, I'd never buy that for $2.500 no matter what size they made the damn thing........ Course I'm also not currently some poor sob getting chewed out by his OCD wife claiming his "ugly boxes" are ruining her Feng Shui..... But regardless this thing is still a big hell no =-)
Yeah I went with reference for the same price...actually a little less because Klipsch sales are so damn good. I did get a SVS subwoofer and that alone will keep me from buying a soundbar for a theater system. Sound bars are great to make a room look tidier, mostly for a family room..not theater room. This is a good alternative however. Forgot to mention, this soundbar only goes to 30hz. I mean my Klipsch reference sub, when I had it, went to 29hz and it was $300. Don’t know who seinehisser is trying to fool
Sure thing! You can explain that to my mother when she will see me getting home with 10-12 boxes for the new "TV stereo setup" hahaha. At this point I can say that looking at the performance is better spend 1000$ on a desktop rather than a laptop...
Would have a question about this soundbar! This has at the back of the connections to connect TV and soundbar via HDMI, this: eARC! My TV, the Panasonic GZ2000, only has ARC connection at the back. The operating instructions for the soundbar include the following: TV sets with "ARC" output (not "eARC") can only transmit surround formats to a limited extent. What does that mean? So my question: can I still connect my TV to this soundbar using an HDMI cable? When Sennheiser writes: Can only transmit surround formats to a limited extent, does that mean that when I watch films in Netflix or Apple TV that are in Dolby Atmos, because the TV does not have an eARC connection, then they cannot be played in Dolby Atmos on the soundbar? Would be very grateful for information!
Good review man. Most of the comments on here are negative Nancy's. Nobody shopping for a soundbar cares how much better 7 separate speakers, an amplifier, wires etc is. Also, this isn't a review on the cheapest soundbar, it's expensive - so what, sometimes it's worth it. To me that's the real question is, is it worth the extra money that it costs? I do have to laugh that you tested it on the cardboard box it came in. Priceless. But it was a solid review and I know you weren't keeping it, just reviewing it so you aren't going to custom setup your pad just for that soundbar.
Can you plug a pair of headphones in it for late night viewing, Rather than the tv. I have synthesiser 660’s but can’t see a mini Jack or quarter inch, I guess you can use another input ?
I have the Q90 and the K950. Both systems give you top tier Atmos sound that can only be surpassed by much more expensive separates. With that said, I haven’t heard the AMBEO and wish I did. My main issue is the price. It has no subwoofer and no rear surround channels. For $2500, that’s unacceptable. I think if they drop the price by around 50%, they would have a formidable competitor.
No offense but your comment is stupid it have no subwoofer because it's built in that's what you're paying for it don't comment about it if you never heard it this thing is a beast people that said you need a subwoofer with this thing I guess a deaf just because you can't afford it Shouldn't Judge it or comment about it especially if you never heard it laugh at these people that say it should need a subwoofer they have to say something bad about it because of the price
@@richardcerritelli9657 Having heard it by itself and then with a subwoofer, this sound bar most definitely benefits from the latter option. Also, I heard it with a $600 Sennheiser subwoofer; then with a $1,200 REL subwoofer. This last setup was the winner, no contest. Without a sub, the experience watching an action-filled movie was just not as good. Is even this second setup pricey? Not compared to the Nakamichi Dragon sound bar, which is $3,500.
how would you compare this one up to Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2.4 SSE Soundbar? I respect your opinion im either getting one of these two.. so can you please put you input for me it will prob be the determining factor... please get back to me.,
Please let me know weather having a sound bar insted of center channel would ina7.2 home theatre would increase my sound effects or it will distort the sound
Thanks for the video on the soundbar. I think it's good if you're not going to go and get a 5.1 surround or be on. Although I would say get the amplifier in the 5.1 or 7.1 you probably don't need Beyond would not be necessary but a 10 inch subwoofer would be recommended,
Great review. I think i'll keep my Teufel Ultima 40 5.1 Set an maybe upgrade with dolby Atmos speakers later. Here in germany we only have a couple of good movies available with atmos anyway.
Good morning I recently bought 1 sennheiser ambeo soundbar which I am really happy with. I would like to add 1 subw model svs sb4000 or svs pb4000 for more bass. I would like to ask you if by inserting one of these two models I can improve the bass sound more or given the high costs of the models described above, I only keep the soundbar? we are talking about € 2399 and € 2899. for this reason I ask you if by adding 1 subw I really gain from listening to both music and movies. Thanks for your answer

Sounds good, but does the "Ambeo" soundbar light dim? Feels like a Buick headlight coming at me when I watch TV. Had to cover it with some black electrical tape it is so annoying, why do have to see the Ambeo light on the right lower side so bright?
Reviewing a soundbar and judging sound whilst it is placed on an empty cardboard box? thousands of hours of acoustic research by sennheiser and you think that is an accurate test?
@@garretts431 At that price, Sennheiser should have included two subwoofers and rear surround speakers. That would have made it the best soundbar on the market.
Inherited one - just got it from my uncle, hardly used. Have set it up but doubt will keep it, would not get much use and my TV is only around £300 quid. So keep an eye on on ebay.
@@therealshanelee Does it sound better than the LS50 in movies when you play loud? I reckon LS50 sound pretty good on movies as well atleast for 1 person.
yeah and all it does is fill the room by reflecting stuff off the walls it's not like real dolly atmost with speakers properly placed that actually have sound coming to each one. yeah all it is is just a big reflective bar plus, if you're seating area was wider than the bar then you would not be getting the full effect cuz you were not in the sound field so that's why a good system is better. Even a 5.1 analog system would sound better than that thing.
@@zacharydarner7036 yeah my point is this bar is for people who can take advantage of it. comparing a 5.1 is not relevant as some people hate wires, and soundbars are still in a different category. if you can have the perfect 4 wall room with 8ft flat ceilings you can use this bars full potential. even if your situation is not the full perfect room, it can still provide an immersive experience. you would have to demo this bar for yourself at a local bestbuy. However, the sound quality from the ambeo is almost on par with my 5.1.4 klipsch setup. i own the ambeo and the difference is night and day between other high end bars i have tried. But for directional and focus? the ambeo is probably a 7/10 in my room because i have a half-wall (about 4ft long) to my right which then cuts out and leads to another room and my couch is against the wall - so all this factors in to correct sound positioning for this bar. either way, it sounds stellar.
@@garretts431 I imagine it sounds best in small rooms - the room I have in mind is quite low ceiling. I’m not sure whether this is better or worse though for the reflection: I would imagine the former.
He said *where it comes up short* A $2500 sound bar should have no flaws!! I mean you could buy a complete high end set up for that price which i guarantee would sound 1000 times better.
@@carlosoliveira-rc2xt exactly. You won’t get high end. People really have a bad understanding of high end audio. It’s one reason I stick to cans: high end audio is too expensive. Do you really think that a low end (“entry level high”) system would be better than this? I’m still debating it...
It may be good, but nothing and trust me as an owner of multiple sound bar systems, absolutely nothing beats the special effects that you get from 02 Rear Surround speakers especially if you are watching Folby Atmos or 5.1 channel sound output...
I have the sony ht-z9f soundbar with the optional rear speakers and it's awesome! It Supports atmos and dts-X....and does nueral X mix for other audio content. It's got arc and 4k hdr passthrough! Had it for like 1 year now. Never a single issue.
Products like this that use reflective sound seem to be very niche. If you do not have the exact room parameters they do not work well at all. To me it sound bar should be two or three front channels at the most with a good sub. If you want more than that then go separate speakers. I would like to see a high-quality 3.2 channel sound bar on the market for around $1000-$1500.

It’s an amazing soundbar but it’s just not worth the money. I mean yeah it’s sennheiser but imagine having an epic 5.1 setup with Dali Speakers and a decent denon or Marantz amp.
They will never replace actual speakers behind or above, not even close. I have this in the lounge room and Bose in my room with all speakers and sub, I always go to the Bose for movies and ambeo for music.
@@therealshanelee I'm struggling to get one of these, mainly for music but can be great if movie still sounds acceptably good. The ratio is around 70% and 30%. What do u think for the choice? I got a sub(svb) so bass should be fine. My room is not a small room so I feel like either lsx and ambeo can not fill my room with bass anyway..
I like the fact that it’s Earc compatible most sound bars don’t state that in the rear they just say Arc and for that kind of money there should be a accessory hook up for surround sound rear up-firing speakers like the Samsung do

My Sony ht-z9f NEVER DROWNS OUT VOCALS.
2499 i can buy a whole reference klipsch set up for that and it will sound better
A person shopping for a soundbar is interested in all those speakers.
@Charlie Brown You’re not wrong. But if you don’t want a room full of speakers, you have to make compromises on both sound and money.
Does it have to be at ear level? That will be hard for most people that don't wall mount.
Awesome review! What subwoofer 🔊 would you pair with the Ambeo?
Good review man. Most of the comments on here are negative Nancy's. Nobody shopping for a soundbar cares how much better 7 separate speakers, an amplifier, wires etc is. Also, this isn't a review on the cheapest soundbar, it's expensive - so what, sometimes it's worth it. To me that's the real question is, is it worth the extra money that it costs?
I do have to laugh that you tested it on the cardboard box it came in. Priceless. But it was a solid review and I know you weren't keeping it, just reviewing it so you aren't going to custom setup your pad just for that soundbar.
Great review as always. Where can i get that Atmos demo disk?
Edwin Osorio eBay has them. Got mine for $40
Can you plug a pair of headphones in it for late night viewing, Rather than the tv.
I had both of the soundbars too.
The ambeo is expensive.
And no rears, they are hard to simulate.
I would like to know if this is better than B&O soundbar also B&O A9
I had the B&W panorama 2 and it was very nice because the bass was great for a sound bar. I wonder how this sounds in person.
how would you compare this one up to Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2.4 SSE Soundbar? I respect your opinion im either getting one of these two.. so can you please put you input for me it will prob be the determining factor... please get back to me.,
What's your impression with sennheiser compared to Sony ht-st5000? And what subwoofer do you think will go with the sennheiser better?
The surround and height effects of samsung Q90R are much better since it has dedicated rear speakers with height channels.
Love all of their audio product (especially their noise cancelling headphones)....too bad about the price point ...way out of my league.
Sennheiser cx 300?
What on wall left and right speakers are you using
th-cam.com/video/gJRw83UgX-8/w-d-xo.html
Are rear surrounds a possible add on to this soundbar? Also, your review showed a subwoofer out; does that mean you can use a sub?
Please let me know weather having a sound bar insted of center channel would ina7.2 home theatre would increase my sound effects or it will distort the sound
Thanks for the video on the soundbar. I think it's good if you're not going to go and get a 5.1 surround or be on. Although I would say get the amplifier in the 5.1 or 7.1 you probably don't need Beyond would not be necessary but a 10 inch subwoofer would be recommended,
If you like base i hate base too ghetto sound for me everybody's different I'll take the power Just the Way It Is more than enough Base for me.
Great review. I think i'll keep my Teufel Ultima 40 5.1 Set an maybe upgrade with dolby Atmos speakers later. Here in germany we only have a couple of good movies available with atmos anyway.
Which subwoofer compliments it best?
Good morning I recently bought 1 sennheiser ambeo soundbar which I am really happy with. I would like to add 1 subw model svs sb4000 or svs pb4000 for more bass. I would like to ask you if by inserting one of these two models I can improve the bass sound more or given the high costs of the models described above, I only keep the soundbar? we are talking about € 2399 and € 2899. for this reason I ask you if by adding 1 subw I really gain from listening to both music and movies. Thanks for your answer
Hi
I will like to buy this soundbar also.
I have question about if it's make any sense to buy it for apartment building, and not a private house. Can i really use the potential of the soundbar without disturb the neighbors? Or it's just to much for apartment building?
How does this soundbar compare to the Nakamichi Shockwave Ultra 9.2.4 SSE Soundbar?
Sounds good, but does the "Ambeo" soundbar light dim? Feels like a Buick headlight coming at me when I watch TV. Had to cover it with some black electrical tape it is so annoying, why do have to see the Ambeo light on the right lower side so bright?
It’s covered in the video.
@@therealshanelee Ah, the ap, thanks
That soundbar looks like a beast. You shouldn't need a sub woofer to get those lows. Often times its the disc that don't produce sound it should.
Godzilla has very low lfe on the disc my svs sb2000 rumbles my whole room with super deep 20hz bass when he walks..
@@Driver2397 Well obviously your benefitting from good acoustics. I always had a problem with a well balanced room for sound.
I wonder how far into the future we will have to go before a soundbar can even come close to individual speakers?
The upcoming Nakamura Dragon 11.4.6 is like a individual speakers
Nicely done video by the way 😉
When it will be available in India
Very eager to buy
Reviewing a soundbar and judging sound whilst it is placed on an empty cardboard box? thousands of hours of acoustic research by sennheiser and you think that is an accurate test?
Lol I noticed that too but it was a good review
He also changed its position, after he calibrated it
It seems clear to me that the test applies to a standard setup, that is, it applies to the room that most users have or not. Not for audiophile room.
30hz for a sub ain’t shit dude lmao. Thousands of hours and they implement 30hz on a $2500 bar.
PLEASE test the harman kardon enchant 1300 with the 400 watt subwoofer 😎💪💪
If you're thinking of getting only the bar for your all rounder experience, i think it lacks the deep thump. So you'll definitely need a sub.
How does it compare to in music to the ls50? Does it have the 3d soundstage & separation in music? I'm most likely getting this!
Different experience. This is more movie surround centric the LS50’s are musical.
@@therealshanelee Does it sound better than the LS50 in movies when you play loud? I reckon LS50 sound pretty good on movies as well atleast for 1 person.
For the price of this motorcycle I can buy a truck and it'll carry more stuff.
yeah and all it does is fill the room by reflecting stuff off the walls it's not like real dolly atmost with speakers properly placed that actually have sound coming to each one. yeah all it is is just a big reflective bar plus, if you're seating area was wider than the bar then you would not be getting the full effect cuz you were not in the sound field so that's why a good system is better. Even a 5.1 analog system would sound better than that thing.
Yeah, but you will get more chicks with the motorcycle
@@zacharydarner7036 i believe youre looking in the wrong category comparing soundbars to 5.1 setups. Lmao
@@garretts431 But sounbars today come with rear speakers. They call them 5.1 systems so just compare what they are called to the real thing.
Great review sennheiser has made great quality products for years.
Excelent explanations. Thank you very much
Is that price necessary??
Great video, sounds great but at $2500.00 more than most house payments??? NO there are a great selection of bars out there at much lower prices.
Jeffery Berg u also have to have a good room to fully utilize this. If it’s odd shaped there’s no auto-calibration to size rooms and speaker distance
@@garretts431 I imagine it sounds best in small rooms - the room I have in mind is quite low ceiling. I’m not sure whether this is better or worse though for the reflection: I would imagine the former.
Can you Review the Nubert Soundbars?
Hi, nice review. Can you please review the HW-Q90R like this one?
🔍
@@therealshanelee No, I mean like how you reviewed this one
How many watts? 🤔
I like this and just got it. I would like to buy the subwoofer. I dont know which subwoofer works well with this soundbar. Thanks
Got the BIC sub for $200 - inexpensive but pretty good for the price range.
What did you end up getting for a subwoofer?
He said *where it comes up short* A $2500 sound bar should have no flaws!! I mean you could buy a complete high end set up for that price which i guarantee would sound 1000 times better.
A high end end setup for that price? You will just get a bottom of the line setup for that price but yes it will probably sound better.
@@carlosoliveira-rc2xt exactly. You won’t get high end. People really have a bad understanding of high end audio. It’s one reason I stick to cans: high end audio is too expensive. Do you really think that a low end (“entry level high”) system would be better than this? I’m still debating it...
Thanks for this video! It helped to a lot
For that price you can get a receiver and speakers 🔊
for that price this thing should have its own sub woofer not something built in the sound bar for bass
Waymon French right I paid that amount for my 5.1.2 set up With speakers and receiver
beartube86 you totally can but this is for folks that want that experience without all the extra components.
@SpareChange - What do you think about Yamaha YSP-5600? Yeah I know it's a bit old and doesn't support hdr passthrough but...
SENNHEISER.
How many subwoofers can I connect to it?
should have re-run setp if moving it higher
It may be good, but nothing and trust me as an owner of multiple sound bar systems, absolutely nothing beats the special effects that you get from 02 Rear Surround speakers especially if you are watching Folby Atmos or 5.1 channel sound output...
Hi Shane can you find some information about Dolby Atmos Music?
What's the best subwoofer to go with this?
I have SVS SB13 Ultra subwoofer paired with the soundbar, and it is awesome 👌.
I have the sony ht-z9f soundbar with the optional rear speakers and it's awesome! It Supports atmos and dts-X....and does nueral X mix for other audio content. It's got arc and 4k hdr passthrough! Had it for like 1 year now. Never a single issue.
There's no overhead sound on that bar. I used to have it.
Definitive Technology has a couple of sound bars in that price range. They have an amazing sub.
Anthony Cutitta Yeah, I’ve heard good things about the DefTech sound bars.

It’s an amazing soundbar but it’s just not worth the money. I mean yeah it’s sennheiser but imagine having an epic 5.1 setup with Dali Speakers and a decent denon or Marantz amp.
This is for a different Target audience. I mentioned that in the video.
Dang even my skull candy head phones got upgraded with that futuristic calibration sound.
Sir is it good for gaming ps4
Thanks again, asked this in another post as well, any chance you will review the GoldenEar Supercinema 3d Array XL ?
Possibly
They will never replace actual speakers behind or above, not even close. I have this in the lounge room and Bose in my room with all speakers and sub, I always go to the Bose for movies and ambeo for music.
bose is worst brand to buy
I have had this for 6 months, my biggest issue is dialogue I just can't get the clarity I need. Not sure the latest firmware has helped either.
Did you put the soundbar on a shelf?
What about the reported lip sync problems?
No problems.
Hello, can you talk about the sound quality when it compare to the lsx?
LSX doesn't give you a surround effect just stereo. LSX for music and the Sennheiser for movies.
The KEF is better in a smaller room. Won’t be so great in a large space. Go for the LS50 wireless if your room is that big.
@@therealshanelee Thanks for the advice! Really appreciate it, will check it out.

Can you review the sonos arc
Baddest review I ever heard
Aw that basssweep is so cool
Did you do RC reviews in the past? Jang*?
Great review btw!
Can you install rear surround sound speakers
No
I like the fact that it’s Earc compatible most sound bars don’t state that in the rear they just say Arc and for that kind of money there should be a accessory hook up for surround sound rear up-firing speakers like the Samsung do
I also like the calibration feature most high end sound bars don’t have
Does this soundbar have a headphone jack?
13:00 they would all sound like garbage because that is exactly the quality of the sound the other sound bars produce.
Thank for an honest review. I move from place to place and travel a lot, so the idea is to find a good sound with minimum footprint. I was really looking at this one, but kept in mind Klipsh, which is coming soon. What do you think? Subscribe anyway. Great reviews!
The Klipsch bars I’ve heard were kinda forward sounding. Maybe the new one will be different. The Sennheiser is gonna be tough to beat though.
