@@ford1546 Well, not at Walmart prices. It really depends on which brand you might choose. For years there was a speaker sales, repair and component warehouse near my home. I loved to go there and pick out well-made cabinets and some or all of the speakers, grill cloths and other components. I could take a look and listen to their finished speakers that were build of the same cabinets and available speakers simply to aid my decisions. I wound up giving several speaker pairs to my friend and family. Sadly, like so many American specialty businesses, they folded when I wasn't looking.

Back when I built my table saw, I routed 2 dados in the Laminate top and put in a few 'T' slots, from Lee Valley. I did the same with my router table. Works great for finger boards and other stuff.
I agree about the MDF, its messy AF to work with but really handy for making trim, facades (fake fireplace mantles) and speaker boxes, due to the low resonance of the material.
By "body-filler, did you mean Glazing putty?"
Using the urethane is a great idea for fixing the fibers in the MDF and getting a smooth (gloss) paint job, I need to remember this :)-
Great job on the speaker... nice.
