I don't know if you remember I told you I work at a historical School as a custodian it super creepy. I listen to all your horror stories while working scaring myself late at night so this was perfect. The building I work in was built in 1881 so you know there's some history 👻

My heart started beating so hard when he was hiding in that classroom. If I had not fallen asleep when I did, I could have kissed sleep goodbye. This story legit scared me. EXCELLENT narration!!

I dont even know why a janitor scheduled need to be a night schedule in the first place.. especially when it's summer not like the school is busy or populated. who's ever in charge of making those hours for a janitor need to be fired.. how hard was it to just have 2 janitors working 9 to 5 ? anyone wanna answer?

The first thing I thought of when he said he worked at a middle school was Matt Groening's book School is Hell. The wit and wisdom that brought us The Simpsons penned comics about the universal truth that the educational system is one step away from Dante's Inferno and middle school is the deepest pit in Hell.

I work as a night shift custodian at a clinic. Long hallways, yellow walls, sometimes buzzing lights--definitely backrooms vibes. But I'll admit that my goofy ass brain was cracking jokes at the drawings repeatedly showing up as being like someone sending their nudes in the hopes that you'll like what you see. Monster's just struggling to find love. 😆

Dude _really_ should have called the cops when it became obvious someone was in the school and messing with him. Also, apparently the monster wore shoes? Not sure what to make of that.
Why would a janitor work the night shift in the summer? And even if it is to keep the place from kids messing the place up. To not do anything about all of this after second night where it is obviously a problem there. And really if you "boss" is obviously lying and you think your life might be in danger from something supernatural YOU DO NOT GO BACK THERE! I mean common the locker slamming after following the dam footsteps SHOULD BE A GOOD SIGN TO F OFF! How wet do your feet need to be to have footsteps being able to go that far in the first place.

Haha lol (me working the night shift as a janitor at my old high school) funny thing is, is that my school is haunted. We got a bunch of ghosts everywhere. We do have a tall dark ghost in the north foyer hallway behind the gym. I call him slendy (named after slender man) there are 3 of as that work the night shift and I was warned about the ghosts before I started. I've been haunted my entire life because of my ability to see and talk to ghosts so I am not afraid. However the other janitors are. I have OCD pretty bad and like to work by myself. So when another janitor gets spooked they will come and help me in my area, which is annoying because of my ocd. During the summer time there is no night shift. We all deep clean the school on the morning shift. Night shift is only during the school year.

The "What middle school kid would draw something creepy like this?" gave me an ick remembering my creepypasta phase and how desperate I was to make my classmates believe that I was a proxy chosen by the Slenderman. 💀
Gotta admit, I was a little sad that the entity in the school wasn’t trying to befriend or even help the janitor. We were given no reason for the entity to be mad at the janitor; no explanation for the number and no discovery of, say, evidence of something in that locker or in a room with that number. The story was just constructed very well, sadly. So much more could have been done with it.
The storytelling, of course, was perfect. As always, Stephen is the best there is!

My Dad has been a 3rd shift custodian at a High School my whole life. He retired just earlier this year.
He had always heard rumours about how his school was haunted by a kid who died by suicide in the building an old spirit back from when that ground used to be a hospital, any number of standard spookies, and even a ghost doggo.
Now, my Dad’s a faithful and spiritual person, but outside his faith he can be a bit sceptical. Not much, usually, but enough.
Dad never found any evidence to convince him that any spirits hainted that school. He’d also bring me and my siblings to the school overnight with him sometimes.
Good times. This story seems like exactly the kind of thing that would have completely terrified 8-year-old me, running around the halls of a mostly empty school that supposedly had ghosties about.
Little over half way through, and I have to say, as someone on antipsychotics I don't usually get fussed until the walls start moving. So it always bothers me when these neurotypicals get all freaked out by papers appearing and things walking out of the walls. Grow up, for me that's a Tuesday.

This may not be obvious to you, but it is rare to have one person phenotype building per day. It's just impossible one person to do that. Especially when you see TV shows about high school and they only have one janitor between the entire building pro day.
I did this for a year and it was creepy as hell around midnight. It is too quiet by myself so I put on my headphones. When I start turning off all the lights one by one before I leave was the worst part. I always imagine being grabbed by something in the dark behind me. 😂

Reminds me of my old school. It's right besides a road so you can look into the building pretty easily. During weekends and late in the evening some lights would be on in classrooms and the library, and you could see people walking around
Now the school was in use during weekends. But should have been empty by 8pm
During that same year the top floor had a classroom infested with flies. Like hundreds of em at all times, even during winter there were flies indoors
The top floor was closed the years after.
Now this all has a normal explanation but it was still strange

0:24 I don't think the author understands the scale of modern campuses. These aren't Dust-Bowl era schoolhouses that have 5-15 students; even moderately small public school campuses are going to consist of 3+ buildings all at least as large as the average house. The gymnasium alone is an entire building and it's all used space so it all needs maintenance. Even if the monsters weren't there I'm skeptical that 'twice the average pay' is enough to do something like that by oneself.
I think that it’s time for a different job maybe 🤔…

LMAO, even an entire summer is not enough time for one single person to clean an entire School! My mother has worked as a janitor for years and has worked her way up to head custodian at a middle school. They literally have to pull everything out of those rooms to blow dust from the ceilings, strip and repolish the floors, wash the carpets, let everything dry, and then move the furniture back in. Then it's time to start on the hallways! This person has probably never even cleaned a house, let alone a school. But sure, you can get everything done all by yourself in an "entire summer," (which let's be real, is actually shorter than the amount of time that you think it is because you have to wait for all of the teachers to get done with their teacher work days, get their crap out, and then you have to be done before they come back for their teacher work days before the start of the next school year.)
lol, I can't believe that I'm willing to listen to a story about monsters, but my suspension of belief is just stretched too thin when you start talkin about cleaning a whole school by yourself. 🤣
I'm at the end of the story, and now I'm so frustrated because that's not even the most unrealistic aspect of the story. There are so many ridiculous things about this. First of all, no school would ever have a janitor only working at night! Are you kidding me! It would be absolute mayhem in that school during the day! No one is there to empty trash cans, no one is there to clean up after spills, no one is there to clean up after the disgusting kids who make messes in the bathroom, no one is there to deal with the aftermath of a kid getting sick! No one's even there just to make sure the toilet paper and soap is stocked up in the bathrooms because you know that stuff runs out like crazy! Not to mention the fact that this school had a janitor go missing and they thought let's just replace them with someone else who will work when no one else is in the school. You know, cuz safety. Are we to extrapolate from this that the principal is just feeding this monster janitors?! Oh, and the cherry on top: we found a bloody mop at the scene of the crime and not only did police not take it, not only did we not buy a new mop, we didn't even wash the damn thing before we threw it back in the Janitor's closet! Literally unbelievable! Lighthouse, I usually love your stories, but this was written by a moron and I just can't stand it!
