Honestly, i don't see what the big deal is. If someone's offering to pay me an exorbitant amount of money to house sit for them and tell me to stay out of the master bedroom, I wouldnt be the least bit curious at all.

Right. Like I don't know about others but I typically use Creepypastas to fall asleep. Its annoying when I'm drifting and almost asleep to have an annoying advert interrupt the immersion.
I have premium so I didn't know that he did this, but thats really nice he does that. Its the worst being all into the story and you get an ad to a video game you have zero intrest in, or some other product.. Even if it was an ad for Tamagotchi or something, I'd still rather not be interrupted listening to these great stories. This is exactly why I got premium, I cannot stand ads, they always ruin the flow of any movie, story or video. Also, I listen to a lot of stories and do not need the screen. With premium you can close your phone (I have a flip phone) and have the screen off and still be able to listen. But!!! The ads and not having to deal with them, was the most important part.
This is why it pays to mind your business and do what you're told

There's this great one, not so well narrated, it's an automated voice, but the story more than makes up for it; it's something along the lines of "I had to move in with my creepy aunt (or cousin?) and she had rules for staying alive". It's 7-8 parts I believe, it's saved to my playlist on my profile "My Favorite Scary Stories" if you feel like picking through the list for it (the list is my own personal faves in terms of best written, most unique, scariest, etc. I've encountered over the past few years across 15-20 or so narrators. Feel free to add it and enjoy if you want to!)

Just started listening, so I'm not yet sure what will happen in the story, but In what world would someone think it "weird" that someone doesn't want you to go in their bedroom if you are house-sitting?
I've had people house-sit for me more than a few times and every time (WITHOUT EXCEPTION) I told the person that was at MY house "do whatever, just stay out of my bedroom".
Can anyone tell me how that is an unreasonable rule?
on its own yeah that is not suspicious, but the incredibly grim tone Rick said the rule in, combined with the outrageous pay and how Rick seemed to be ecstatic he finally got someone to mind his house i'd definitely think something is up.
He doesn't say, "don't going in to the bedroom", he says, "don't open the door". That difference does sound a bit of an odd way to phrase it.

I'm just going to say it, we all know it was John's fault. From the sounds of it, the money wasn't actually going to happen, but the door thing... yeah, that one's on John.
I love how he was conscious, waiting to make his move, the whole time he was dragged to the table:

Fr I had to drop the story after that. Protag deserves everything coming to them if they're that dumb.
I will say at the very least likely wouldn't have mattered considering the speed he described it moving at. As based on its wording after it sounded more like a no win scenario where it would have attacked eventually still, just wanted an excuse to do so. But at the same time the main character didn't know that at the time and could have tried.
When someone asks you to house-sit for them, it's always good to follow their requests. When they are paying you $600 a day, you box up any curiosity and throw it out the window. You have 4 rules while you're there; lock up, leave the master room closed, no house guests after 1 AM, and try really hard to not burn the place down. I know that wasn't explicitly said on the list, but it's a good rule for most situations in life.
Okay but if they add rules such as at 1am if the door to the garage is opened. You must turn off all of the lights. Within the next 2 minutes Return to the living room, sit in the middle of the carpet and stare at the TV with the volume max.
What ever you do, never look anywhere else but straight in front of you. If for any reason TV sound stops for more than a few seconds, start making your own sounds as loudly as you can such as screaming or talking loudly to mask the unnatural sound.
Then I would be terrified. Even though I'm completely safe as I follow the rules, the creepiness will cause me to freak out and panic attack
I dunno...maybe in this particular case cleansing fire was just what was needed.

I'm relatively new to creepy pasta. I have been on a rules kick lately. I just listened to the Tartarus Store one last night. It was fantastic! If you haven't listened to that one yet, it may be a good one to give a shot.
This guy is a machine that is on run away mode non stop narration of some of the best stories.
I have tried to listen to other channels but they don’t even compare to the amazing quality of Steve’s narration, this is voice acting and the ability to tell a story that is presented in a package that in my opinion cant be found on any other channel.

I would’ve just been watching Netflix the whole time. Doors locked? Yeah, I don’t wanna get robbed. Friends gone by 1? I don’t socialize much, and my few friends respect me. Don’t go in the bedroom? Dope. I don’t wanna know if there’s a shitload of drugs to be sold in there ($8,400 for two weeks would be understandable), valuable jewelry, or a sex dungeon. You do you. My room is where I hide all of the impulse buys
Okay... I do not feel bad for the protagonist. 3 simple rules. 3... Not 10 not 13 and they do not involve demonic creatures as much as he knew... It was so simple. This one made me mad at the protagonist, if he was that bored he could have just stressed LH and move on. C'mon... 3 rules

One of the most annoying things about this story is the fact it wasn't even the protagonist who broke the rules

I actually have a theory, based on dialogue as well as what happens. The creature either was uncovered by Rick or had entered the house at some point while Rick was asleep. Regardless, the creature killed and skinned Rick and began impersonating him to lure in more victims, as he did with the protagonist.
As for why the creature didn't skin the protagonist, it either didn't want his skin, or wanted to make him suffer.
I also feel like what happened to his friends was mostly his fault, he should have never invited them. Personally, I don't think the door being opened or not would have changed much, the whole thing was just a trap, the bedroom was likely a test to see how easy catching its prey would be. Had they not opened the door, the creature might have just snuck out while they were asleep or something and killed them. (This is of course a theory.)
The reason why I think the creature was impersonating Rick from the start of the story: It states that both the money and the rules were all a part of a lure/trap for the protagonist, it knew that, being college students, they'd do something they were told not to do. Not to mention, the real Rick is discovered to be dead, having been found dead once John opened the door. Given how, from dialogue, every event up to and including opening the door occured on the same day/night, it stands to reason that Rick was already dead and that the "Rick" who offered the protagonist the job was the monster.
The only thing that I'd like to know is why the protagonist was unable to contact the police. As they themselves state, 911 is very rarely, if ever, not in service. Only thing I can think of is either the creature had created some kind of energy field that prevented contact with the outside world, or that the whole story was a dream/nightmare the protagonist had or something.
How ugly he must've been if even a demon doesn't want his skin.
Ricky: "There are three rules."
Me: Oh nice! That should be - WAIT A MINUTE
MC: I wanted to open the door....
Me: you dumb mothfu- 8400 dollahs and YOU CAN'T LEAVE A DOOR ALONE
Sometimes these rules stories are a bit silly.
Rule: Whatever you do, dont somersault above the couch while drunk at exactly 4pm
MC: OH DAMN, WITH HOW MUCH I LIKE DRINKING AND SOMERSAULTING ABOVE COUCHES AT 4PM
I think this story would've been better without the supernatural stuff, to be honest. The multiple twists kind of made it a bit convoluted. Great job reading it, though, Lighthouse!
Yeah if I’m getting paid 600 dollars a day to not break any rules, even if friends are allowed, I’m 100% not risking having them over and then being dumb and breaking a rule.

It's annoying how he and his friends are making a big deal out of the master bedroom rule. I get that the setup was that they got curious because they were prohibited to go there, but that only works if one can't think of any logical or believable reason that it was. There are so many reasons why a house owner wouldn't want anyone to open their rooms. The most basic is they might have important stuff in there or private things they don't want others to see.
Lighthouse horror is the best story telling out of all the rest. Absolutely love this

Damn..... Your selection of rulespasta are amazing 🤭🤭. Never like the average rulespasta (though I love them a lot) there's always a twist. This story was amazingly disturbing 🥺. Amazing job as always with the narration Lighthouse, the sadness, fear and hopelessness in his voice at the end was perfectly captured. I felt it for him.

I house sat for someone once and they said not to open the living room closet door…I wasn’t curious about it at all 😂😂 turns out they just stuffed it full of crap…but that isn’t much of a story though.
You can tell when a story is written and narrated extremely well when the videos end and i look at my phone confused because in fairly certain it's only been have been maybe 10 minutes and sure as the sun is been 30

Feb.18th 12:53pm... Wow! What a creepy story. Reminds me of a 1970s horror movie in short version, it just leaves ya hangin' in the end! What's going to happen to that dude? Does he get rescued, does he die strapped to that table? Does he become dinner or the "suit" that, that Rick guy-thing, wears to breakfast! Ahh! I always hated those kinds of movies, that left ya hangin'!! 😮 Sheesh! The story does have potential tho. Good job telling the story 😊
For almost $10,000, I couldn't possibly care less about one stupid door. The dude is only 19 though, and everybody does stupid stuff at that age.
I don't understand the end when he doesn't understand if Rick knew or not. The thing told him how he tricked him, that it knew he would break the rules and even asked him did he actually think he was going to actually pay him $600 a day. So he knows that Rick wasn't the one who asked him to house sit nor wrote the rules. Also, the protagonist didn't actually get away. At the end he says he doesn't know where he is that he may still be in Rick's basement. So how would he not know where he was if he wasn't still there, and why would the monster just take him elsewhere and leave him? I think it would make more sense that the monster is just holding him hostage until it needs another skin suit so the skin doesn't rot before he can or needs to use it.

600 dollars a day sounds like you're expected do chores in your underwear and ignore the cameras. No house that requires a sitter is gonna bank 600 dollars a day unless they want more than just to have you keep the house in one piece.
This was really uncomfortable and terrifying to listen to. Wow.
