My hair length is right above the shoulder and for the past 2 years I've been going from one hairstylist to another because no one seemed to know how to remove te bulk of my abundant and thick straight hair. Now I understand this is because they were giving me long layers and I always hated the end result, my hair felt so heavy. So thank you so much for this information, now I know what to ask for.

I have super thick mostly straight hair with tons of natural volume. Short layers are the way to go for me.

Hi Summer 😀 I am captain of team midi layers! I think they create nice loose pieces and texture when wearing hair pulled back or up, and great movement when wearing hair down. Styling versatility, in my opinion. Love your channel!!

Team long layers..I once got a short layered chop and it looked awful, 😞 I would struggle to style it... I have curly thick hair and the long layered type worked great ❤.

I have done all 3 of these layer types with face framing due to having naturally curly hair. My hair type isn't thick but it's not thin either..kind of in between. My issue is that I have a round face and alot of these fun styles I cannot pull off (I have done alot of them over the years lol), so I have worn pretty much the same haircut since I was10 (I'm 48 now lol) My hair length is the exact same as yours in this video! And when I chose to straighten my hair, your look is what I end up with except that I have bangs of some sort. I do 3 different of those as well. :)

I love shags, being a kid from the 70s, but cannot pull it off myself. I have too much curl and would end up looking like a poodle. I like long layers and hair that flows a bit in contrast to the choppy layers, which would bug me if I couldn't pull my hair back or up. However, I really do admire these styles on other people! 💇‍♀

Thank you Summer for this helpful video - I have been thinking of getting a shag haircut for a while now , but I admit I am a bit nervous because not sure about styling it and my default is wearing it straight and flat iron - that may not look good. I have thick wavy hair, about your length 😊💕

Are texturizing shears the same as thinning shears? Further to my below comment the experiences I've had with thinning shears have been horrific. Hairdressers have assumed that "thinning: my ends will lift the weight thereby encouraging the curl when, in fact, it's the opposite for me. It cuts the wave out of my ends and I end up with a "football" head which is very think around my head but very thin straight ends. I know I have many questions but I'm so tempted to get a couple of elastic bands and try the self-cut butterfly cut going viral. What are your thoughts on that cut?

My fine hair can frizz, go straight or wavy, according to its mood (or perhaps the phases of the moon), so I have had the most luck with a strong perimeter cut, layered or not, which at least gives the illusion of thicker hair while it misbehaves.

    Hi Summer. How are you?
Please make a video about how to style and reduce volume in straight thick hair.
I have a natural grey hair (I'm 51) and I have a medium haircut with short layers. My hair always has a lot of volume even though I use styling creams and serums.
I usually style it with the Revlon hairbrush.
Sorry for my English. I'm still learning.
I hope I have explained well.

I love the shag haircut! I have fine hair but Alot of it so it gets weighted down so fast. I think I had every cut possible and I do still love the messy hair look. I love bobs but I have apparently never had it cut properly or it just isn't for me.

Hey everyone, I'm a girl with black hair which is pretty long like just below my waist and it's completely straight and is thick but im trired of it because I can't do a single hairstyle so I want to cute it to just above my waist with layers but what type should I do with what bangs? I want to be able to do all of the hairstyles in Insta or pinterest n stuff cuz right now my hair is too long to do anything.

I have extremely thick wavy hair that I've made a mess of cutting. It's all one length (in most spots lol) reaching about mid-shoulder blades. To direct a hairdresser, I need to know if a shag is the same as if I tell her to do medium layers? I'll be finding a new stylist and am nervous about a new one simply having "free reign" over my hair. Where's a good place to start as far as directions?

How would you categorize a bixie? Isn't it just a shorter (ear or chin) bob with more layers? I have thin, fine hair, high forehead and bored of straight hair with bangs. Thought a bixie would look more feminine and less conservative.

Hi summer, l have arm pit length hair, is wavy with a tendency to go frizzy not an S wave. l would like centre part with curtain bangs sweeping over my cheeks . Top and crown textured with different lengths and point cut at the end of layers. Bottom lengths blunt cut to maintain thickness. So textured layers blending into the thick blunt cut layers
So the back which is textured on the blended into the thicker long layers of the back. occipital .
I am guessing step one long layers all over the head.
