I did my first half marathon block back in October. I just started running back in March after basically a sedentary lifestyle for the last 10 years. I was able to build my weekly mileage to 50-66 the last two months of the block. For me that was the sweet spot given my fitness and experience level. I ended up crushing my goal of 01:40 by running a 01:37:27. Nothing crazy but I was proud of the work I put in. Now I'm on week 6 of a 24 week full marathon block. Mileage has been in the 30s but next week I bump up to the 50s again. I'm hoping to build up to 75-85 mpw for at least a month going into it. It will be interesting to see how my body handles it. A lot of respect for the guys that can hold 80-100 miles consistently, that's eventually my goal
Hi Seth, love seeing you posting more and getting back to training for a race! What is the nose cover you are wearing at the start of the video? It's exactly what I need for those subzero workouts.
hey Andrew, its a simple head band from a company called Inyclence, I think out of Germany....I had frost bite on my nose about 2-3 years ago so I can't take that risk again
QOD: Averaged around 70k in a half marathon block last year and walked away with a big PR (81 mins). This led me to PR my 10k and 5k. The volume wasn't enough to totally fatigue and wipe me out but enough to see decent adaptations. The key i found was that even though I wasn't doing high mileage, I was still running 6 days a week and didn't get injured all year. Currently going into a marathon block and the goal is to peak at 110k for 4 weeks and then go into a 2 week taper. Currently trying to build to 90k and stay there for a good 8 weeks.. Hoping for big returns.. Good luck Seth!!
QOD: Last Feb. 30k race on rural roads in the UK with over 1000ft elevation as part of my marathon training block. Ran to keep HR in a certain range and ended up a PB for that race distance and I felt good afterwards. That gave me the confidence boost to go on and PB Cambridge UK half 2 weeks later and PB Manchester UK Marathon in April.
"don't do this" 🤣😂that was fun...may I ask your opinion on one point: why do many books (The Science of Running, Handson Marathon Method, Daniel's running formula, and others) suggest that, despite the intensity of the workouts during the week are roughly the same, once you reach the peak you do not keep that peak at 100% but every week you have variation such as week 1 100% - week 2 80% - week 3 90% - week 4 80% -- week 5 100%.... I do not see the point of this approach. PS what's your favorite running book?? Have you ever got inspired by one running book for your training plans?
Seth can you link the vlog you mentioned from 4 years ago talking about volume just getting off the couch? I’m coming back from a year off and a recent ankle sprain! I want to be smart about dipping my toes back in
V recent subscriber and loving the content. Catching up with some of your historical stuff. V. useful!!!.. even for a 58y old who started running 2 yrs ago but completed my first marathon in Nov. One odd question you noise band is brilliant! Mine gets rather cold too! What do you use?
Hey Seth, just curious as to why you take your easy runs as slow as you do. Seems like you’ve done it like this for awhile. Just curious since by the time you’re in say sub 70 shape for a half 7 min flat pace would still be pretty easy even at altitude. And most guys at that point are at least running 7:30 pace or a bit quicker and it’s still easy. Perhaps because you’re a higher volume guy and your schedule demands you get your runs done in singles rather than doing doubles so you just err on the side of really make sure you don’t over expend than if you doubled and had more recovery time? Thanks and best of luck with your build! Don’t underestimate old man strength! 💪🏼😤
"Winter miles make for summer smiles!"
bingo!

These types of videos have 100% more long term value than shoe reviews. Loving it.
Loving the Vlog!
More to come! Welcome Rick!

The training videos on your channel are very helpful, Seth. Thanks.
You're very welcome Melo!

Lydiard books, always Lydiard
QOD: high school XC senior year; 70 mile weeks over summer, 50-ish with more speed in season… best race of my life @ state 15’17” in Cali
BOOM! Nice work on that 15:17! Did you go on to run in college?
@ ‘fraid I was too lackadaisical; I got offers from Portland & Michigan Ann Arbor but passed 😬😬

Welcome! Just a basic ear band from a company call Incylence out of Germany
@@SethJamesDeMoor Thanks Seth! ps. The conditions you run in gives me no excuses!
Training for a spring marathon or half isn’t always ideal but it makes for a tough & gritty runner 💪🏻
We have the same exact hairstyle , I must be ready to start running finally😅
Winter slogs are THE toughest workouts.

I wish there were Seth followers who needed a running partner that are living in Napa California
110miles 😮 that's good enough for 26.2
all depends on one's goals....run on Simon!
Wow you blew up, i used to watch alot around 5k subs. I remember donating to your first ever stream in the old shoedeo
Welcome back!
First time I'm seeing such a nose warmer.
I had some frost bite on my nose 2 or 3 years ago, can't risk it again
