I was going to say the same thing! These past few weeks have reminded me of the SJD I first subbed to back in late 2019... I hope he does well with this training block - actual hard repeats, tempo runs, pace runs, etc. not just another block of 100+ miles at 8min/mile pace. I'm rooting for Seth bigtime, and still hoping he can eventually eek out a
Your 3 goals are awesome. I can't fantom, a 5 minute mile. Well, of course, I am 71 years young. However, for myself, I am 3 for 3 so far running in 5k events. 3 first places in my age group and 2nd place in the masters division, for one of my 5ks. Like you, it took me numerous years to build my foundation. While building my foundation, I developed a strong mental and physical mindset. I was persistent and consistent with my daily and weekly training. What's frustrating is that my run times have increased. However, if there is a will, there is a way! I have increased my weekly mileage, and I am now working out at the gym, lower and upper body 3 times a week. With that said, I have noticed immense improvement. Bottom line, I don't think about my age. Age is just a number. My mantra is, "My body doesn't know I am 71." I am glad to see you back, your inspiration for all, "keep turning that door knob!"
QOD: Im running Edinburgh Marathon for the 3rd time. Looking to run 2.50 🤞 never been under 3 before, however just off the back of sub 17 5k and 80 minute half. Hoping a solid 20 weeks with 4 week base and 16 week block of marathon specific work will get me where I need to be! Good luck with your block Seth. Butter my bread!! 🍞
Watching this daily vlog while eating really reminds me back to 2020 - 2022 where i would watch to get me fire up for my run. Really nostalgic. Goodluck seth
3:19 👍 I tell my athletes Run your race! Don't chase that guy or gal that goes out too fast at the beginning. Great advice as always! Thanks S.B., W.H., L.E.O.
QOD: Run this half on Sunday without looking at my watch. All by effort, baby! And no matter how I’m feeling at mile 9, speed up/push for 9, 10 and 11. Then when it’s 12 and 13 mantra time “effortless” and “faster hands”
I'll see you in Jersey City! Going to be my first half in over 5 years and longest race coming off 18 months of plantar fasciitis. Wont be with you at 1:05, but if I can get this 190lb frame across the line at 1:25 I'll be psyched!
Hey Seth! Love to see you back! Hope all is well with the family and with life! I'll be running my second boston (6th marathon) this spring, my training has felt as solid as ever and I'm excited to get back to Boston for some redemption this year as last yeah I developed runners knee about 7 weeks out, attempted to x-train and still race, basically ran solid for 16 miles then rode the cramp train home. All that in the rear view I'm looking to run 2:45 for a hopeful Berlin Qualifier. I did have a question for ya.. So I started a new job on Jan 6 and now training for Boston, I'm learning a lot of new material at this new position and have had some doubts or wonders about whether training for the marathon while taking on the new job may be detrimental and maybe I need to shift focus. With that said I've relied on running as a source of confidence and well-being so this is a difficult dance and I'm hoping you might be able to lend some insight / advice. The mileage planned for this block would be right around 55 up to 70 per week which is a low number for a marathon block for me, hoping that also helps to not be on the edge of max. Thanks for all of your help. Cheers!
I do triathlons (sprint and olympic distances) during the warm months here in Florida but this year, from the end of October through the beginning of March, I've really focused on running longer distances to improve my overall endurance (and, hopefully, improve my run splits). I'm generally in the top 3 for the swim and bike but middle of the pack on the run (8-9 min/mile pace). I was injured in Afghanistan in 2014 and it's taken me some time to get my running legs back. As a goal for my running, I signed up for a 25K (15.5 mile) trail race in February with a plan to finish under 2:30. This will, hopefully, translate into faster 5 and 10K times on my triathlons. Currently I'm running 35 miles per week (long run is 12 miles), do 1 hour on a stationary bike (hard), and 1 hour of strength and conditioning. All of my running is at an easy pace except for one 5 mile tempo run per week. I will transition to triathlon training after this race so my run mileage will decrease (to around 20 miles) and I will add in more speed work with 2 swim sessions, another bike session and another strength and conditioning session. My eventual goal is sub 7mins/mile on the 5K for the sprint triathlon and sub 8mins/mile for the 10K on the olympic. Someday I may attempt an Ironman but with my current work schedule it'll probably have to wait until I retire. I am 61 yrs old, 5'11", 185 lbs. My current resting heart rate is 52 (per my Garmin) I had a max heart rate when I was 58 (tested at a medical facility) of 201 but I don't know what it is currently. My Garmin also says my VO2Max is 40 (I don't know how valid that is). Been following your journey on TH-cam for a while now, thank you for sharing. I would love to meet you one day and go for a run (easy for you probably tempo for me). I really appreciate all that you do. P.S. One day I hope to run a 100 mile race for my 100th birthday. Wish me luck!
I am at the same spot april 26 half marathon in Montreal - not sure is you went trough this type of question - but what are you looking into a shoe for a half vs a full marathon
When you turn 40, you definitely want to get on a competitive masters XC squad and toe the line in December at the Club Nationals XC race. Easily the most competitive masters race in any form of running in the US
You got this Seth! Great things to come in 2025! Looking at your PR race I would just suggest a hair cut and a shave to help with the weight and aerodynamics🤣🤣
Are you really running most of your runs in the invincible 1? I would love to have them back in the market…they were simply perfect for easy and steady runs!
I do not want to be pessimist here, but I doubt that you can run your PB at Half after so many "bad" years (4 years since Florida), so achieve an A goal. B goal is more realistic ;-) C goal, sorry but no way. Your goals are too high... I would suggest as a goal C to perform PB at Half, B goal under 1:07, C goal..."do my best and have fun". Anyway, I really wish that your dreams come true and I wish you very good luck on the way there :)
The recent videos few videos in the new shed remind me of the old shoedio days. Good luck with ambitious goals for the Jersey City training block.

Love the feel of being back in the shudio!
I'm gonna run Jersey City too, but the full 😎 I am going for 3:20 in the full after trying the half last year
Can't wait to see you there!
Go get it Seth. It’s good to see you back with that fire in your belly and publishing regular content again.
Thanks Richard,

The biggest risk (being older) is minor muscle pulls with the fast pace session that then derail the momentum. Good luck.
Good luck Seth! Will follow along as always. My prediction is 1:04:59. 🎉🎉🎉 And the W
