    I play Ridley on and off; sometimes I love his punish game and offstage play, sometimes I despise his sluggish air mobility and disproportionate weight to his size. This guide has helped me emphasize what I can do to mitigate what I dislike and foster growth to have fun and success. Thank you so much!

    I really appreciate you making this video. I've been maining Ridley, and watching guides like these really help a lot.
    You showed me a major flaw I've been doing in my gameplay in this video. It's been something that has been stopping me from properly comboing with Ridley, and I didn't even know I was doing it wrong.
    I wasn't aware that if you fast falled after the nair was done with its animation (and probably fair too, actually), you avoid the longer landing lag, which is critical to landing Ridley's regrab combos. I haven't been able to do them and have been trying to fast fall as soon as possible with my aerials, and had absolutely no idea why my combo attempts didn't quite seam up until seeing this, and these minor nuances can be nearly impossible to research or find online.
    Thanks for making this! Also, DEATH TO PICHU

    Vreyvus, ever since I decided to become a ridley main I have watched so many of your sets and I must say this guide probably is the BEST guide I have seen for ridley! It was well put together and you explained everything so well. I am looking forward to seeing more content from you and this will help my ridley game immensely. Cheers from Canada and keep up the great work!

    Been maining ridley for about 3 months now, and I absolutely love this character. Everything just clicks.
    I think you put it best when you said he was a “Training mode punching bag”

    Thank you

    This is exactly the kind of guide that I hope for but seldom get with many characters. Happily I've picked up Ridley recently and this guide was incredibly helpful. Talking about each move and what it does (like most "guides" do) is fine, but it's just a more entertaining way spending time looking at the frame data and damage charts. Having a guide to neutral and imparting the spirit of the character in the most important phase of the game is so, SO much more useful though. Thank you!!

    Your guides helped me take Ridley to losers semi finals in a Wifi tournament. After losing to an Inkling I faced a Zero Suit Samus and brought the set 2-0. My opponent switched to Wii Fit Trainer and picked stages like Yoshi's story. As I was not prepared to fight a cracked top level WFT matchup he made a 3-0 comeback and knocked me out of the tourney. Next time I enter I will win with Ridley and Sheik.

    Ayyy, nice video! A few things that I really like in Ridley's kit that maybe you will discuss in future vids: 1. his Bair's hit box is massive. It hits from so many angles. 2. He has possibley, the best wave land in the game especially his backwards air dodge 3. Sliding in general: f-tilt, d-tilt and neutral grab. Thanks for the video!

    Nice stuff, and thanks for continuing to forward the Ridley Meta!
    BTW, call me crazy but I've been adapting *Wing Blitz* into my game... As in on-stage Wing Blitz, sometimes in advantage, but sometimes in neutral. Sounds like a bad idea, but then again a lot of people thought Skewer in 1v1 was a bad idea. But I'm finding it can catch people off guard when used sparingly. With neutral in particular it's an abrupt shift in pacing, as you mentioned at the start of the video. Condition the player into trying to play the spacing game to around Ridley's range, and suddenly they get bum rushed. No mistake, it's definitely shielded on reaction. But in general it still fits into Ridley's game plan of figuring out the opponent's habits and punishing hard.
    ...And of course there's using it with advantage state, but I suppose that's for another video...???

    • @Vreyvus
      @Vreyvus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wing Blitz doesn't really serve a purpose in the neutral game. Optimally speaking, the move doesn't combo into anything, damage and KO isn't that great either. Basically any other option is faster and more reliable. Technically it could kill in a tech situation but at that high % getting the tech setup to begin with is very unlikely.
      I only ever use it for recovery and ballsy Valhalla Dive spikes.

    • @Galiaverse
      @Galiaverse 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vreyvus Well firstly no point even mentioning "combo", so okay?
      Now what I'm talking about is a *surprise finishing option* that could and should be used sparingly, not something to replace Ridley's more optimal KO moves, and not something to rely on regularly. Either way it's interesting you say damage and KO isn't that great. Because damage-wise it's on par with Ridley's Up and Down Smash and KO-wise it killed only 6% later than Up Smash, and that was from FD center stage (tested on Cloud whose weight is 100, killed @ 112%). So when you say "any other option is faster and more reliable", you're including Dash Attack and tipper F-Tilt which both kill over 20% later _outside of center stage_ .
      Again, understand I'm not suggesting on-stage Wing Blitz is great. It's a 37-frame start up move, nobody with their guard up is getting hit by this. On the other hand the hitbox is HUGE and even slightly disjointed at the front. Moreover people can't afford to always expect it when Ridley's throwing out bunches of other options like disjoints, fireballs, and a potential Pirate Rush.
      All I'm saying is don't be too quick to write it off. Believe me I was definitely critical of its potential. I just can't ignore the results I've gotten thus far. Trust me I'll go for practically anything else. But like with Skewer, if I suspect my opponent is unprepared for it, I'm going to Wing Blitz, and it either kills or puts them way off stage.

    • @Vreyvus
      @Vreyvus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Galiaverse It isn't much of a surprise finishing option when its slower than any of the other attacks available at your disposal. Can you get a kill with it? Sure, but only as often as you would with say Falcon Punch. The problem with using Wing Blitz in the neutral is that it purely depends on your opponent's spacing since there's no setup which helps you land the attack (Unlike Skewer, which has a notable few). If the opponent won't get hit when their guard is up anyway, why take the risk of using a move with an extremely poor risk/reward ratio?
      Its damage and KO potential is bad because of its speed, i'd never use it in the neutral unless it was for styling. You also forget that the opponent can survive longer with proper DI, unlike with Down Smash and Up Smash which pretty much always kills regardless of DI. Not to mention the better frame data and angles that they cover is far superior.

    I’ve tried playing all the characters in the cast and I’ve ended up with Ridley as my main. He just fits my play style so good! I do believe he could be an bottom of A tier character. If u time ur flaps offstage well, you can kill any character very early as you can easily exploit their up B and jumps offstage with neutral and back air to kill early (for a good example look up Trelas Ridley vs. Awestin Ness) Also if u short hop cancel forward air you can go for a grab or downtilt again to keep your combos going at low percents. I can hit almost any character except like pichu with short hop back air 99% of the time. What I recommend when playing Ridley is using bumper jumper or claw to time flaps/combos, not to be to afraid to use side b, down tilt is key, up smash platforms, and really really go after opposing players offstage.

    Another interesting aspect with Ridley's f-smash is that it can whiff punish most neutral grabs due to the animation shifting his hurtbox backwards. Although far from being common, I've taken stocks from this a couple of times before and it's pretty ridiculous

    Love the vid. Ridley main and while I had a grasp of some of this stuff it's nice to see things like the percents where nair is safe. You mentioned you'll talk about matchups. Will those contain tips for various characters? Palutena, Wolf, Pichu, Peach/Daisy, pretty much a lot of the top tier characters give me trouble as Ridley so pointers on dealing with them would be appreciated.

    • @Vreyvus

    • @venomsjunkmail
      @venomsjunkmail 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think he's as bad as people say? If yes what buffs do you think could really help him be a solid mid tier? I see him put at the bottom a lot and at times I can see why. Then other times he feels solid. For me his frame data, up b taking forever to come out, and some odd hit box vs what their visual shows kinda mess with me. Also extra weight would be really nice.

    • @Vreyvus
      @Vreyvus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Venom Symbiote Most people who rate Ridley either doesn’t play him or actually fought a good one, thats why he’s so low on the lists most of the time. Ridley is a really solid mid tier, with glaring flaws but also great strengths.
      I know a lot of people advocate for more weight, but it wont help him that much. Airspeed will help his combo game, ability to land, recover, shark opponents trying to land and so on. Airspeed and adjustments to certain hitboxes is what he needs imo

    • @venomsjunkmail
      @venomsjunkmail 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Vreyvus Yeah his air speed does seem lacking for a flying space dragon. Have they ever buffed a characters air speed before? Thanks for all the replies. If you ever have the time maybe we could fight at some point so you could see any of my Ridley issues? I'm guessing Ridley was a most wanted of yours, or maybe you just like how he plays? Either way keep up the great vids!

      Roy players are button-mashers and they will most likely always approach you from the air, so just look for whiffpunishing their landings.
      Snake is tough, abuse your range and threaten their space by carefully approaching and be wary of dash attack. Edgeguard him hard and look out for b reverses when he attempts to land.
      Theres a lot more to be said but i cant fit it in here. You should go check out the Ridley discord for more help.

      Its your average move to attack anyone above. If you get the chance you should use it of course. But i hope it gets buffed in some ways.

    A lot of people purpose a buff to his weight. Yes? I purpose a more interesting buff one that would help his disadvantage state a lot more. I purpose removing his tail and wing hurt boxes

    Call him swift if you have no idea what the important stats is, he’s not that mobile in the air and his initial dash sucks. Ridley has the worst/slowest out of shield options in the game. I think I’m gonna start a riot for a Ridley buff
