PushBlock you failed me bro. You didn’t talk about his Top Tier, arguably number 1 down taunt in the game. Excellent frame data, excellent mental damage, excellent in the “establish dominance” category, and has the hidden power of actually being taller then all characters in the game, including the full Arsen persona. Mix that with his very intimidating up taunt and you have character that leads the taunt meta, and is definitely a staple in Ridley gameplay.
Indeed, I just tried his up taunt yesterday and it was so cool but his side taunt is a waste
My favorite character in the game. Even if he's not amazing I love the hyper aggressive style he has
I've wanted Ridley in since they announced the making of ultimate, and I honestly like everything they've done with him (except for his down air and size:weight ratio). It honestly feels like your playing as Ridley, right down to the weak point in the mouth and his raw, aggressive playstyle. They could've given us the tail bounce from super metroid as a down air though.

PATCH NOTES:
Patch 13.0.1 buffed both the damage AND kill power of Ridley's dash attack.
Damage 12->13.5%
Knockback growth compensated 70->67
At the edge no rage good DI it will KO Mario aprox. 9% earlier

Patch 9.0.0 changed Ridley's rapid jab to be transcendent, meaning it wont acknowledge other hitboxes and unable to clank with anything. This is a slight buff as it will have the net effect of increasing it's range against opponents in a way.
They also made it so the Downward Wing Blitz splash hitbox will ONLY affect players on the ground. This is decent sized nerf when you consider down air has no splash hitbox at all.

as of Patch 8.0.0, Ridley's down B Skewer has had it's damage buffed on the sweetspot from 40% to 45%.
This now means a total damage of 55%.
Also. Down throw to skewer is having issues working correctly. The opponent will take the 45% but will not enter crumple or get hit with the second. This has been theorized by players to happen because the skewer crumple is now linked to the grab timer. This could be a huge nerf and was most likely implemented to stop grab release skewer infinites in doubles matches.

"it prevents more common situations where the landing hitbox would override the main attack's knockback (thus ruining meteor smash attempts) if used too close to the edge"

I have to say that even though I’ve never played the Metroid games and ultimate was the first time I’ve really seen Ridley besides brawl he ended up being the character I play the most as I absolutely love his design and his play style

also another thing with side B,
if your opponent mashes out in the air they will always be released below ridley. this can create a game of chicken if ridley has more percent than the opponent when going for a side b suicide kill

Just got a switch for my birthday and Ridley was the moste anticipated unlock for me next to Young Link. Just unlockrd him tonight and I am so looking forward to trying him out and developing my petsonall fighting style for him.
Ridleys really underated in my opinion. Sure, his hurtbox is MASSIVE and his recovery is not very good, but he has good range, ariels, a good command grab, one of my favorite characters.
Ridley's wings are more like a bat than a birds, that sweet spot of his up tilt is technically his wing's thumb nail.
That would work if Ridley didn't already have arms and hands

@@PBLKGaming I was about to go on about the skeletal differences between a bat and a bird's wing mainly how a bird's wing bones are from a three-fingered hand with a greatly reduced thumb and the remaining two digits fused, but you are indeed correct regardless. 🤔

I remember when I first played super smash bros ultimate and when I used ridley I always spammed side B and throw characters of the stage with an epic roar lol.

Ridley's f smash can confirm from a jab lock, including jab 2. One problem is that its EXTREMELY precise. Literally by a few frames. best stick to jab lock with jab 1. that's significantly easier.

As a Ridley main since launch, I think you did a great job on the video! I personally disagree with the statement that he isn't a grappler (I would say he is a semi-grappler, among several other categories he falls into), but other than that I agree with just about everything else you had to say.

1:27 Hey, Little Birdy and the Mysterious Creature are perhaps the only bit about Ridley's species we are gonna get. The fact it was in a mediocre game with a shit amount of character assassination does not take away that this further connection to Scott's eponymous Alien being a multi-stage life form... that, and considering what we know of Ridley as an "adult", smart but vicious and sadistic. It makes sense that his younger form would lean toward Neotony, to urge being protected by more sapient species, but still allow his "domineering personality" [read also: Beeg Screech] to force the dumber beasts to fly into a fury. Terrible Twos from a sadistic child. The MC is very much the "awkward teenage stage", but despite its goofiness, I still love it. Over all, I'd say Ridley's design is just bad in that game. He is a deathly-thin beast of bony armor and a razor-sharp beak; not some leg-day skipping, JoJo upperbody-having, duck beak screeching abomination that those two aforementioned stages led to.
All of this comment to say the idea of Ridley's unknown species going through varying stages for maturity has potential, and if given a respectable redesign, like Smash Bros Ridley, then the idea can really be used to its fullest potential.

Urging intelligent species to protect the early life stage of ridley’s species is actually a very interesting take
Ridleys downsmash is beastly despite being relatively weak. If you never use it, and instead save it as a trump card for when they try to juggle you and get beneath you. Not bad for hitting edges or knocking players into the air the second they’re about to touch down on the stage
Also it covers 3/4 of options after a successful down B.

Thanks for this guide! I've mained Ridley since ultimate came out, and this guide is something I've used since I started playing him. I always come back to this every now and again just because.
One thing though: I'm pretty sure Skewer deals about 70 percent, not 50. Also, down air may be a bad move, but it is funny to hit at ledge, where if you position yourself correctly, you can spike people and still land on the ledge. It can also catch people from above sitting on ledge (but it doesn't always work).
Also, I totally agree that Space Pirate Rush is such a stupid name...we needed something cooler sounding, like maybe Claw Drag...
Skewer does a total of 55% base (after the patch)
Which after 1v1 and freshness bonuses gets boosted up to 69.3%

Ridley’s underrated, but he’s still in the lower half the roster by a bit. Yeah, he hits hard and fast, but he has very few combos and kill confirms. Then there’s his disadvantage state, which is absolutely terrible and the primary reason he’s not high on tier lists. He’s good against a select few high tiers like Mario and Game & Watch, but then you have other high tiers like Rob, Palutena, Pikachu, and many others who just trash him.
Honestly, i just wish his down air was better. We could have the tail bounce thing from super metroid, but instead we get a crappy stall and fall.
Ridley’s so big that it doubles as a strength. Jump from ledge and press jump again to footstool opponent when getting up from ledge and dair to get a setup

Ridley does better at hitting shorties and is a similar speed to seph. Could work if you don't want to commit to lucina

I still dont understand how ridleys drag grab thing dosent count as either a suicide or just a kill, like how does ridley die first? He litterally is above them and is around their neck

On a more serious note the Ridleys back air has what APEARS to be high damage frames. Idk what it is or if there’s some hidden criteria I don’t know about but if you hit a character in what seems to be the mid/later animations of his back air you hit for 19% damage. Because of this turn around back airs and true combo back airs only seem to hit 16s where as landing back airs and just free back airs in the neutral will hit the 19
That's from the short hop 0.85x penalty. It does 16% base. That's 19.2% in 1v1. But if you short hop bair it's 16.32%

Ridley needs a 4th jump and his down special needs super armor (every other heavy in the game has one)
I find this accurate.
Ridley defense is shit. Once you lose your flow, you get combo into death often losing a stock.

As a casual Ridley player myself, I go for pure offensive firepower and lay the beatdown on my foes.
I often call Space pirate rush Dragon Drag for some reason it just flows with the tongue better

Concerning the combo potential with Dtilt, dont try it ppl. Its rarely worth it, and if you fail, you will die or take 80%
Concerning the plasma ball, in neutral, 2-3 balls are the most optimal. It go faster than a 5 balls round and you can still combo out of it

@@danielleballsackguy7374 Ridley is meant to be a middle ground between the two Samus's. Regular Samus has a weight and zoning but not the speed. Zero suit Samus has the speed, but her attacks are not easy to land. Ridley kinda has both, he's a jack of all traits character.

Nah he's pretty solid.
Jab deals good damage, d-tilt can trip up and combo into f-tilt, up-tilt is fast and kills, all smash attacks are really strong and doesn't have too much lag. He has 4 spikes, that being f-air, d-air side-B and down-B. Side-B does huge shield damage, dash attack is a solid approach option and his grab game is ridiculous. There's definitely way worse characters than him.
