When you said that he struggles against zoners that would come up to the player because I love fighting zoners I’ve learned how to deal with them and Ridley has a lot of strategies I use two strategies with Ridley I either try them to play defensive wich can allow me to break the person’s shield and then F-Smash and then the second strategie would be to get the opponent to play aggressive then make ONE MISTAKE and I can turn their rush down attack into mine since after rushing down most people don’t start playing defensive after rushing down that’s when I usually counterattack. I love spacing especially with Ridley. Only rush down with Ridley when the opponent is absolutely focused on trying to rush YOU down that’s when their defensive capabilities are at their lowest (That’s my opinion on Ridley) and yoshi‘s island brawl is the stage for Ridley. I think he can be decent in tournament but if he would become a threat there HAVE to be changes made to his recovery it’s not that good BUT IT HAS KILL POWER AND SPIKES. I enjoy Ridley a lot and people that play in my local scene actually like my Ridley, because I constantly switch strategies a lot of people in my school like or play smash and they always ask me for tips It’s amazing ☺️
YOU CAN CANCEL SPACE PIRATE RUSH BY PRESSING THE BUTTON A SECOND TIME. Every Ridley player needs to know this. It can be cancelled while grinding an opponent across the stage, or while freefalling. Learn to time it right and Ridley will throw the opponent near the bottom of the level and be able to recover back to the stage easily.
Also, if you know opponent is going to mash out of the grab then cancelling the grab just before they mash out will do more damage and put you in a more advantageous state than if you let them get out themselves.
lol yeah i wanted to try krool but heard he was op so never got around to him. but RIdley was one of the first chars i chose to try and havent switched off him since... hes too fun.
I see a lot of people off stage with Ridley that grab the opponent that is edge guarding and just fall down and kill themselves and the opponent. Do people no know if you press b while in the grab animation you will throw the enemy like normal but Ridley jumps up? Super easy to grab an edge guarding opponent fall fairly low, press b which throws them and makes you jump, then use up b to recover if you have exhausted your jumps.
Yeah no one seems to know this. Ridley has a lot of fun little tricks. I use this in online. Another tip down throw can link to down b depending on which why the player attempts to dodge. It start of the battle with an easy 70. Damage on the opponent in just a few seconds. You can also get a quick side b sometimes. Ridley always goes at the same angle for yo b. On up he hoes up to the right, back with go backwards and up, forward will go forward and down. N air is decent for approach of for people trying to rush down.
You can also do side b grab off stage and immediately cancel it, and if you're playing on a stage like FD with sloped sides, you'll get an immediate stage spike and straight up kill your opponent.

This is a really good guide man (such as D-Smash is the optimal punish for skewer). Two things I would like to add though. 1.If you space pirate rush your opponent off the ledge, it's not an instant sacrifice move. You can actually jump out by pressing the jump button and just leave your opponent in a super bad position (which would kill most characters that don't have an above average recovery). 2. Ridley's Dair may be risky but could also be used as a mixup. There is a tricky thing you can do with Ridley where if you get hit by your opponent and get launched in the air, you could jump Dair and it would literally stall you in the air for 3 seconds while having an active hitbox. This could trick out your opponent and adds another layer to getting back on the ground easier. Overall, really good guide. Keep it up!!!
people think Ridley is just a mindless savage beast. of course he is a bait-n-punish character, he is called a CUNNING god of death after all. so for those who dont know, Ridley is super smart in canon lol. also, to summarize, he's basically not just a bait-n-punish, but also the king of stage control.

@@MegaDragonmark Ah, I did that once, by accident. I was at 90-ish percent, so I admittedly had a heart attack when I did it. However, a better move is to pick up a Death's Scythe, skewer them, then delete the poor sap who was shish kebabed.
Ridley needs 4 extra jumps, he is supposed to be the aerial king, he also needs a different dair, him having what he has now when the pogo move exists is by god a horrid tragedy, he also should have reduced knockback without nerfing his aerial speed(Which is quite fast). Overall I love ridley and will be playing a lot of him regardless if he is buffed or not.
This was great. I’ve been looking for a Ridley guide for so long and this is exactly what I needed. I’m not looking to win tournaments just beat my friends and this was all I needed added on to the stuff I already knew.
This is the best video on Ridley I have ever seen. “Beginner guide” notwithstanding, you have no idea how helpful this has been in maximizing Ridley’s strengths and covering his weaknesses, with a complimentary big shoutout to the stage selection segment. If I had to pick a point that made the most difference for me, as a Ridley main, it’s your opinion on Skewer. Everybody was hype af seeing it in the trailer, but you’re the ONLY person I’ve seen advocate for it in matches; after we saw how slow it came out in practice people wrote it off as nigh useless, myself included. You, on the contrary, hit a 180 on my perspective with that segment, and you’re 100% correct in your stance for making the most of Skewer. Landing that hit can make *astronomical* differences in how a match plays out, and the sheer possibility of landing it again can force your opponent to give up their biggest boon- confidence. I digress. For the sake of the community and players at large, please keep up the good work. You’ve earned my loyalty and subscription forthwith.
Another thing about Ridley's side B is that if you're close enough to the ledge when you grab someone, you'll crash into the side of the platform, and the opponent will take stupid high knockback from the wall. Ridley gets a bit of tumble from the crash, but generally can recover. It might ledge cancel too, but I haven't replicated it since yesterday.
you can jump out of space pirate rush, both on the ground and the air. it sends the opponent upwards and if used offstage can stagespike. it is actually very safe if you land it offstage and there is virtually no risk to it
Don't be discouraged by existing Ridley footage. Smash in general is muscle memory intensive and the game series has a lot of subtleties. For this reason I feel that being a professional smash player actually is a disadvantage when it comes to labbing out Ridley. I don't have the timing, precision, finger dexterity, and reaction speed of top ranked people like ESAM, but his Ridley move choices are down right attrotious (Or at least what they are now will be once Ridley mains realize and correct major fundamental flaws in how they approach playing the character).

I've been trying to find some good, simple Ridley guides online but most just kind of show his moves and aren't that great for trying to pick up on how to become a more effective player. I'm quite new to Smash and this guide really helped. I've been unsure on how to follow up after a skewer, and will definitely be trying the down smash.
You can cancel space pirate rush by hitting b. As well. You should always do this when you are facing the stage as you are around 8:55.it launches the other player at an up angle from when you hit b and this can make the opponent bounce off the bottom or side of the stage resulting taking the stock.

Personally I'm just happy to see something on Ridley which is the whole reason I set this video aside to watch. Mew2King does have a note that the only options for Ridley's Up-B that gain height are up and back, with the latter going backward and up in contrast to doing it forward which makes you go forward and down. So if you're edgeguarding and going below the stage height you'll probably want to be facing away from the stage to use it, but if higher forward or backward would be fine.
Thanks for this! I went to a friends house and played with a bunch of people. was expecting to play all the older characters that returned. But i def wanted to try ridley. I chose him after trying 2 other chars and I never put him down for the rest of the game session.. Dying to play more of him. so fun.
10:10 You're right... I've been worried to use that move due to how slow it is but it appears to be an essential tool in Ridley's toolbox. I've been a coward, and with your tips I might just have the confidence to give it a try. I secondary Ridley so this can be quite helpful for my local competitions when my primary is no longer a good option or I want to have fun with the space dragon. Ridley was so much fun that the only character I have more fun with is my SSB4 main, which turned into my Ultimate main too.
Most of these I tend to found out by now, but it's a grave reminder that I have to experiment with his skewer. I didn't really give it too much of a chance as much as I should.
I found an awesome but hard to land kill confirm for ridley. Side B, then as they try to get back on, side B them in the air, wait until you're almost to the blast zone, then throw them. In most cases, they will absolutely not be able to recover.
actually, one time while i was waiting for an online match, i trapped the ditto ridley in a jab and kept on moving backwards. the ridley was inside of my ridley's body so it moved together. I got to 180%+ I uh... don't have the footage tho since i don't have a capture card and I can't record it with the capture button
This might help: if you use space pirate rush offstage then if you Side B again you cancel it and if .your fighting an enemy like Chrom you will live or they will die first.
For once, someone actually made guide content for Ridley. I too have noticed the complete lack of any Ridley guides on TH-cam. I've just been seeing things like Tier lists and King K. Rool. So a big thanks to SmashBrosNovaScotia for making this video.
Thanks, i have been trying to Ridley as a counter to rushdown, so this helps. I am glad he is bait and punish because I mained those kind of characters in Smash 4.
funny thing is I wanted to play Ridley because of people like alpharad and when I got him it was fun but I wanted to learn how to play offstage Ridley so that's what led me here but i love playing as Ridley.
I’m not very good st smash but on walk off stages if your opponent is at a high percent you can space pirate rush then into the walk off then cancel to chuck them off (reason I say high percent is they can mash out at low percents but it could be possible at low if they don’t)
Ridley is supposed to be a "bait-and-punish" character, and that you're supposed to stay in your territory, but what if you're up agents a young link or (the pure incarnation of evil for Ridley) duck hunt? you gotta charge but theres no way to even get close! plz help me
I actually know how to counter the links as Ridley. You just got use your projectile first. Then you keep on doing it until your ready to get up close.
Full hops with DI nair lead into a nasty conditioning ch ain. Against Chrom I mix in extra jumps into dairs. Against the other fire emblems it leads to into place air jump then into 2 with the option to nair or dair, and if they think it's nair and sheild, you can jab punish. If you're chasing down non sword projectile types, they might try to disengage this chain of oppression by just running away. Read that with a down b and thank them for making it easy to land a 60% damage blow.
Cool vid. sadly nothing new for me personally as I have been playing ridley straight since release of ultimate ^^ but still nice. Also, I feel like you should mention his side-specials insane kill potential off stage, since you can release it early and easily recover yourself, all the while only few characters besides ridley can recover from such a position (especially if thrown into the underside off the arena at higher percentages).
Just by labbing Ridley at release and playing at pre-launch events, I really did see where his flaws were and I truly found out his strengths before I watch your videos: Ridley is all about space control, more so than possibly any member of the cast. He has the pokes to beat almost every character and he has great aerials to bait recoveries. Punish or get punished. That's Ridley for you. ;-)
@@glibglab1751 its not easy to land but you have 10 times more possibilities to land it than a fpunch, its half as long as one. thatll decide wether your a good ridley or a great one.
@@glibglab1751 if you used it at a time were the enemy reacted with a shield than you read is actions wrong or used it at a really stupid moment. most smash attacks have something close to those frames and look what hype shit came out of it. with enough gamesence youll be able to use it from time to time.
They should buff up Ridleys weight to be between Dedede and Ganon. See what happens. He has that giant hurtbox and no longevity to show for it. Also his Up B can be really useful if you catch your opponent off-guard with it. Plows through almost every move once it gets going and can kill under normal percent.
Fun fact: If you walk up until you're touching your opponent, roll back once, and then tap forward just a tad bit. This should gaurantee a sweetspot on his Down B. Not too practical, but good for punishing shield breaks
So I've tried the bait and punish style and it worked a bit. Then I tried the rush down and had a bit more success. Then I tried the bait and punish at lower percentes and then rushing the enemy down after they're at 40 or so and then it was just mean. I don't think anyone knew how to counter it except a few that punished it after they hit maybe 80 or 90. Then they're at kill range for side b, dair, bair, all smashes, forward tilt kills at 110 so a single flurry jab would get you there. Dash attack kills at roughly 115 to 120 from what I've experienced.
Also if anyone sees this my gsp with ridley is consistently around 2.7 mil. Can anyone give me a comparison gsp to go off of to know where I stand with my skill with ridley?
Now that people know how to abuse advantages on Ridley, I find myself turning to using Ike. His feel has more in common with Ridley than I expected, and the matchups improve dramatically. I will go back to Ridley if he gets improved enough to be viable.
Careful bro! Ridley is a sleeper top tier we dont want ppl to know! Ive been in the lab a lot with ridley and you can really stretch out his combo game. Without nair hes the worst character in the game, make good use of nair and he can mess up anyone.
Funny how Nair seems to be star of this video. I was never a Ridley supporter, I was neutral on him getting in. As such, his announcement was not that special to me. BUT, as someone who loves heavies and played lots of Charizard (besides Ganondorf and Ike) in Smash4, Ridley's Nair in particular got me VERY interested in the character. It seems to work very much like Zard's in Smash4 and I loved that move. Couple that with his DownSmash and it really feels like some of Zard's moveset was a big inspiration for Ridley's (but I think Ridley has more range on either). I have a hard time choosing my characters in Smash Ultimate, but Ridley is a high contender.
Everyone keeps saying how it doesn’t make sense that Ridley is lighter than samus, but Ridley flys with wings and in order to with wings and not some jet pack or kind of technology you’re gonna have to be pretty frigin light just saying
Ridley takes A LOT of practice, been playing since smash N64, and by far, he is the most difficult to learn. He is a huge target, has a linear recovery, long end-move lag, long startup lag, all specials take a long time to startup and the list goes on. Everything tells you he is terrible, but what people don't figure out, is in the right hands, he has every tool you need for every type of fighter and is a wrecking ball of damage and is frightening in the air. I am now taking on high GSM Lucina's, inceneroars,wolves,peaches, zelda's ect. and winning about 80% of the time- yes often times I get my ass handed and juggled, but when I catch an opening, I can wrack up 120% damage in a few seconds and won't let up as he is very mobile. And yes, the skewer attack, land one and your enemy will stay out of your zone for the rest of the match, or they rage and spam punishable smash attacks. Glad he's here, hopefully for good!
Been playing Ridley and I'm just gonna say... Down B is extreeemly good. --Playing against King K. Rool. I have like 86% with 1 stock. He just re-spawned, now on his last stock. Stuff happens (Maybe. Maybe I'm at like 90%). Down B doing 63% to K. Rool, charge my forward-smash, he does a get up roll towards me. I win. Assuming if they get-up-attack you can just do it again. I typically roll (or ledge jump) when I get up from the ledge. A good mix up is regular get up to down-B if they try to read the roll.
Ive been maining him since release and he is much more than just NAIR. His down B has a MASSIVE hitbox and slams a frame or two past the wingspan including the wingspan above his head. He has the charge bite which as mentioned in the video should only be used on the right situation and his Final Smash will instakill multiple targets if they are lined up and around 100%. Also his final smash hits anything in his hitbox. So if someone is above your head it will drag them into the special. The one thing he has the most that wasnt covered in the video.....Rage. His rage capability is absolutely nuts. Any uncharged smash attack will instkill at as low as 60% sometimes if you have rage. Many players have taunted thinking they got me on the ropes and one hit throws them out a stock. He is incredibly weak to juggle, his fucking hitbox is so big, that its like playing with a megamushroom. Getting comboed by multiple players leaves him defenseless unless you can get some jabs or downtilt to break out of a stunlock. The flipside is his side B will tilt his head away from punches leaving a massive punish that as mentioned, can instakill with rage. He has SUPER rundown speed if you double tap in the direction you want to go as he flys there. But in the end as you mentioned in the video, he is not meant for power or rundown. He is a technical punish based pick. Ive been using him wrong by prioritizing space pirate rush. But the move is insanely readable to more skilled players when you are best making them skid to a stop trying to avoid skewer instead of grabbing them out of shield. Albeit you can pressure them off stage and seen many people panic choke off stage from it because its so quick. Not to mention does around 20% damage just on the slam. Im still having extreme difficulty agains Ness because his projectiles and up B tracks most of the area you can lockdown and all of his tilts can stunlock you for dps. Ive been able to counter young link mains by flying over their ranged attacks to close the gap. Ironically he struggles against the huge amount of damage Bowser or some heavies can dish out because again his hitbox is huge. Overall with a slight weight decrease or a damage buff of about 10% to his base moves would make him terrifying. But I'd like to hear more as the metagame unfolds.
Labbing vs dark Samus on battle feild. She has projectiles nastier tether long hurt boxes that reach through platforms etc. so far My new approach is to stay on her with direct attacks when close enough, to the point of not worrying about predictability or low use of my OP nair. At a distance I take opposite platform and fireball. If on bottom, I run in behind my fireball to get under her. Vs Ridley, Sam is has insane platform advantage if you let her breath, but in final destination I do more of the full jump run her down thing that I do to swordless projectile heavy characters.
I remember playing against a level 9 CPU of Ridely with Sonic, when we were both at like 148%, one stock, he did pirate rush, but instead in was in the air, so it ended up sending both of us out of bounce, luckily he died and I hardly managed to survive, lol. Thought it would be funny to share.
Great tips for beginners, although I'd say that if you can manage to condition your opponent into shielding a fair amount (usually with plasma breath and other pressure) your side B becomes exponentially better on-stage and you get a guaranteed jab setup if they mash out should you be spamming a when they do (from what I've experienced, frame data may suggest otherwise but 9 times out of 10 the opponent either can't react to your jab quick enough or isn't anticipating it). I'm also curious as to why you say platforms help Ridley as every time I play with them it serves to help my opponent land far more than it helps me keep them in the disadvantage state. Yes it is very hard to get back on stage against zoners (the Links and Belmonts primarily), but I find it best to try playing around the ledge against these types of characters anyway. Perhaps it's just different experiences, but I'm still curious to hear your thoughts on it.
Maybe I just couldn't hear it for some reason, but I went back multiple times and didn't hear you say it, so I'm pretty sure you didn't. An important aspect of Skewer that you forgot to mention is that when you hit the sweet spot with it, it completely ignores shields.

This is the best video on Ridley I have ever seen. “Beginner guide” notwithstanding, you have no idea how helpful this has been in maximizing Ridley’s strengths and covering his weaknesses, with a complimentary big shoutout to the stage selection segment.
If I had to pick a point that made the most difference for me, as a Ridley main, it’s your opinion on Skewer. Everybody was hype af seeing it in the trailer, but you’re the ONLY person I’ve seen advocate for it in matches; after we saw how slow it came out in practice people wrote it off as nigh useless, myself included. You, on the contrary, hit a 180 on my perspective with that segment, and you’re 100% correct in your stance for making the most of Skewer. Landing that hit can make *astronomical* differences in how a match plays out, and the sheer possibility of landing it again can force your opponent to give up their biggest boon- confidence.
I digress. For the sake of the community and players at large, please keep up the good work. You’ve earned my loyalty and subscription forthwith.

Another thing about Ridley's side B is that if you're close enough to the ledge when you grab someone, you'll crash into the side of the platform, and the opponent will take stupid high knockback from the wall. Ridley gets a bit of tumble from the crash, but generally can recover. It might ledge cancel too, but I haven't replicated it since yesterday.

When you Ridleycide with side b, you can press jump to cancel. If you time it right, you will still be able to recover!
you can jump out of space pirate rush, both on the ground and the air. it sends the opponent upwards and if used offstage can stagespike. it is actually very safe if you land it offstage and there is virtually no risk to it
Don't be discouraged by existing Ridley footage. Smash in general is muscle memory intensive and the game series has a lot of subtleties. For this reason I feel that being a professional smash player actually is a disadvantage when it comes to labbing out Ridley. I don't have the timing, precision, finger dexterity, and reaction speed of top ranked people like ESAM, but his Ridley move choices are down right attrotious (Or at least what they are now will be once Ridley mains realize and correct major fundamental flaws in how they approach playing the character).

I've been trying to find some good, simple Ridley guides online but most just kind of show his moves and aren't that great for trying to pick up on how to become a more effective player. I'm quite new to Smash and this guide really helped. I've been unsure on how to follow up after a skewer, and will definitely be trying the down smash.

You can cancel space pirate rush by hitting b. As well. You should always do this when you are facing the stage as you are around 8:55.it launches the other player at an up angle from when you hit b and this can make the opponent bounce off the bottom or side of the stage resulting taking the stock.

I just picked up Ridley and this guide is just what I needed, I think after much floating I've found a main.
Should also be noted that his up B is kinda weird. Up goes up, forward goes down-forwards, down goes down-away, and away does up-away.
Personally I'm just happy to see something on Ridley which is the whole reason I set this video aside to watch. Mew2King does have a note that the only options for Ridley's Up-B that gain height are up and back, with the latter going backward and up in contrast to doing it forward which makes you go forward and down. So if you're edgeguarding and going below the stage height you'll probably want to be facing away from the stage to use it, but if higher forward or backward would be fine.

Thanks for this! I went to a friends house and played with a bunch of people. was expecting to play all the older characters that returned. But i def wanted to try ridley. I chose him after trying 2 other chars and I never put him down for the rest of the game session.. Dying to play more of him. so fun.
10:10 You're right... I've been worried to use that move due to how slow it is but it appears to be an essential tool in Ridley's toolbox. I've been a coward, and with your tips I might just have the confidence to give it a try. I secondary Ridley so this can be quite helpful for my local competitions when my primary is no longer a good option or I want to have fun with the space dragon. Ridley was so much fun that the only character I have more fun with is my SSB4 main, which turned into my Ultimate main too.
Most of these I tend to found out by now, but it's a grave reminder that I have to experiment with his skewer. I didn't really give it too much of a chance as much as I should.

I found an awesome but hard to land kill confirm for ridley. Side B, then as they try to get back on, side B them in the air, wait until you're almost to the blast zone, then throw them. In most cases, they will absolutely not be able to recover.
actually, one time while i was waiting for an online match, i trapped the ditto ridley in a jab and kept on moving backwards. the ridley was inside of my ridley's body so it moved together. I got to 180%+ I uh... don't have the footage tho since i don't have a capture card and I can't record it with the capture button

This might help: if you use space pirate rush offstage then if you Side B again you cancel it and if .your fighting an enemy like Chrom you will live or they will die first.

With your side b if your using it off stage you can let them go grab with again or head stomp them if done correctly its really good

funny thing is I wanted to play Ridley because of people like alpharad and when I got him it was fun but I wanted to learn how to play offstage Ridley so that's what led me here but i love playing as Ridley.
In my years of playing smash 4, i never had as much fun as i have now playing ridley
I’m not very good st smash but on walk off stages if your opponent is at a high percent you can space pirate rush then into the walk off then cancel to chuck them off (reason I say high percent is they can mash out at low percents but it could be possible at low if they don’t)
That's why nobody plays on walk off stages

If either Warioware or Castle Siege remain legal, those two are excellent stages for Ridley

Skewer will always link and hit the sweet spot after a down throw at low percent if they don't air dodge.
Ridley is supposed to be a "bait-and-punish" character, and that you're supposed to stay in your territory, but what if you're up agents a young link or (the pure incarnation of evil for Ridley) duck hunt? you gotta charge but theres no way to even get close! plz help me

I actually know how to counter the links as Ridley. You just got use your projectile first. Then you keep on doing it until your ready to get up close.
Full hops with DI nair lead into a nasty conditioning ch ain. Against Chrom I mix in extra jumps into dairs. Against the other fire emblems it leads to into place air jump then into 2 with the option to nair or dair, and if they think it's nair and sheild, you can jab punish. If you're chasing down non sword projectile types, they might try to disengage this chain of oppression by just running away. Read that with a down b and thank them for making it easy to land a 60% damage blow.
At low percentages doesn’t Plasma full charge stun the opponent long enough to get a grab in? If they hit?
Cool vid. sadly nothing new for me personally as I have been playing ridley straight since release of ultimate ^^ but still nice.
Also, I feel like you should mention his side-specials insane kill potential off stage, since you can release it early and easily recover yourself, all the while only few characters besides ridley can recover from such a position (especially if thrown into the underside off the arena at higher percentages).
Ridleys recovery is the best, side b to the arena and if you miss just up b
Just by labbing Ridley at release and playing at pre-launch events, I really did see where his flaws were and I truly found out his strengths before I watch your videos:
Ridley is all about space control, more so than possibly any member of the cast. He has the pokes to beat almost every character and he has great aerials to bait recoveries.
Punish or get punished. That's Ridley for you. ;-)

roller and down tilt dont do 60 damage tho. if you struggle against inkling roller, the ridley side b goes through it!

@@glibglab1751 if you used it at a time were the enemy reacted with a shield than you read is actions wrong or used it at a really stupid moment. most smash attacks have something close to those frames and look what hype shit came out of it.
with enough gamesence youll be able to use it from time to time.
They should buff up Ridleys weight to be between Dedede and Ganon. See what happens. He has that giant hurtbox and no longevity to show for it.
Also his Up B can be really useful if you catch your opponent off-guard with it. Plows through almost every move once it gets going and can kill under normal percent.
Fun fact:
If you walk up until you're touching your opponent, roll back once, and then tap forward just a tad bit. This should gaurantee a sweetspot on his Down B. Not too practical, but good for punishing shield breaks

Downthrow > Skewer if opponent has 20% or less damage and doesn't tech the throw by roll getup or jump will land in my experience.
So I've tried the bait and punish style and it worked a bit. Then I tried the rush down and had a bit more success. Then I tried the bait and punish at lower percentes and then rushing the enemy down after they're at 40 or so and then it was just mean. I don't think anyone knew how to counter it except a few that punished it after they hit maybe 80 or 90. Then they're at kill range for side b, dair, bair, all smashes, forward tilt kills at 110 so a single flurry jab would get you there. Dash attack kills at roughly 115 to 120 from what I've experienced.
Also if anyone sees this my gsp with ridley is consistently around 2.7 mil. Can anyone give me a comparison gsp to go off of to know where I stand with my skill with ridley?
Full Hop Skewer will hit opponents on Battlefield height platforms. Dunno how useful this info is, but there ya go.
I started maiming him since I got ultimate him and inkling but I like ridley a little more
Now that people know how to abuse advantages on Ridley, I find myself turning to using Ike. His feel has more in common with Ridley than I expected, and the matchups improve dramatically. I will go back to Ridley if he gets improved enough to be viable.

Careful bro! Ridley is a sleeper top tier we dont want ppl to know! Ive been in the lab a lot with ridley and you can really stretch out his combo game. Without nair hes the worst character in the game, make good use of nair and he can mess up anyone.

Funny how Nair seems to be star of this video. I was never a Ridley supporter, I was neutral on him getting in. As such, his announcement was not that special to me. BUT, as someone who loves heavies and played lots of Charizard (besides Ganondorf and Ike) in Smash4, Ridley's Nair in particular got me VERY interested in the character. It seems to work very much like Zard's in Smash4 and I loved that move. Couple that with his DownSmash and it really feels like some of Zard's moveset was a big inspiration for Ridley's (but I think Ridley has more range on either). I have a hard time choosing my characters in Smash Ultimate, but Ridley is a high contender.

Everyone keeps saying how it doesn’t make sense that Ridley is lighter than samus, but Ridley flys with wings and in order to with wings and not some jet pack or kind of technology you’re gonna have to be pretty frigin light just saying
Ridley takes A LOT of practice, been playing since smash N64, and by far, he is the most difficult to learn.
He is a huge target, has a linear recovery, long end-move lag, long startup lag, all specials take a long time to startup and the list goes on. Everything tells you he is terrible, but what people don't figure out, is in the right hands, he has every tool you need for every type of fighter and is a wrecking ball of damage and is frightening in the air.
I am now taking on high GSM Lucina's, inceneroars,wolves,peaches, zelda's ect. and winning about 80% of the time- yes often times I get my ass handed and juggled, but when I catch an opening, I can wrack up 120% damage in a few seconds and won't let up as he is very mobile.
And yes, the skewer attack, land one and your enemy will stay out of your zone for the rest of the match, or they rage and spam punishable smash attacks.

I’m a Ridley main and when I got him in world of light I beat every stage first try. He is an absolute unit
Been playing Ridley and I'm just gonna say... Down B is extreeemly good.
--Playing against King K. Rool. I have like 86% with 1 stock. He just re-spawned, now on his last stock. Stuff happens (Maybe. Maybe I'm at like 90%). Down B doing 63% to K. Rool, charge my forward-smash, he does a get up roll towards me. I win.
Assuming if they get-up-attack you can just do it again.
I typically roll (or ledge jump) when I get up from the ledge. A good mix up is regular get up to down-B if they try to read the roll.
Ive been maining him since release and he is much more than just NAIR. His down B has a MASSIVE hitbox and slams a frame or two past the wingspan including the wingspan above his head. He has the charge bite which as mentioned in the video should only be used on the right situation and his Final Smash will instakill multiple targets if they are lined up and around 100%. Also his final smash hits anything in his hitbox. So if someone is above your head it will drag them into the special.
The one thing he has the most that wasnt covered in the video.....Rage. His rage capability is absolutely nuts. Any uncharged smash attack will instkill at as low as 60% sometimes if you have rage. Many players have taunted thinking they got me on the ropes and one hit throws them out a stock.
He is incredibly weak to juggle, his fucking hitbox is so big, that its like playing with a megamushroom. Getting comboed by multiple players leaves him defenseless unless you can get some jabs or downtilt to break out of a stunlock. The flipside is his side B will tilt his head away from punches leaving a massive punish that as mentioned, can instakill with rage. He has SUPER rundown speed if you double tap in the direction you want to go as he flys there.
But in the end as you mentioned in the video, he is not meant for power or rundown. He is a technical punish based pick. Ive been using him wrong by prioritizing space pirate rush. But the move is insanely readable to more skilled players when you are best making them skid to a stop trying to avoid skewer instead of grabbing them out of shield. Albeit you can pressure them off stage and seen many people panic choke off stage from it because its so quick. Not to mention does around 20% damage just on the slam.
Im still having extreme difficulty agains Ness because his projectiles and up B tracks most of the area you can lockdown and all of his tilts can stunlock you for dps. Ive been able to counter young link mains by flying over their ranged attacks to close the gap. Ironically he struggles against the huge amount of damage Bowser or some heavies can dish out because again his hitbox is huge.
Overall with a slight weight decrease or a damage buff of about 10% to his base moves would make him terrifying. But I'd like to hear more as the metagame unfolds.
Ridley is my biggest main. Baiting is the way to go with him.
Labbing vs dark Samus on battle feild. She has projectiles nastier tether long hurt boxes that reach through platforms etc. so far My new approach is to stay on her with direct attacks when close enough, to the point of not worrying about predictability or low use of my OP nair. At a distance I take opposite platform and fireball. If on bottom, I run in behind my fireball to get under her.
Vs Ridley, Sam is has insane platform advantage if you let her breath, but in final destination I do more of the full jump run her down thing that I do to swordless projectile heavy characters.
I also want to say this; in casual play ridley is the GOD of walkoffs.

I remember playing against a level 9 CPU of Ridely with Sonic, when we were both at like 148%, one stock, he did pirate rush, but instead in was in the air, so it ended up sending both of us out of bounce, luckily he died and I hardly managed to survive, lol. Thought it would be funny to share.

Great tips for beginners, although I'd say that if you can manage to condition your opponent into shielding a fair amount (usually with plasma breath and other pressure) your side B becomes exponentially better on-stage and you get a guaranteed jab setup if they mash out should you be spamming a when they do (from what I've experienced, frame data may suggest otherwise but 9 times out of 10 the opponent either can't react to your jab quick enough or isn't anticipating it). I'm also curious as to why you say platforms help Ridley as every time I play with them it serves to help my opponent land far more than it helps me keep them in the disadvantage state. Yes it is very hard to get back on stage against zoners (the Links and Belmonts primarily), but I find it best to try playing around the ledge against these types of characters anyway. Perhaps it's just different experiences, but I'm still curious to hear your thoughts on it.
Maybe I just couldn't hear it for some reason, but I went back multiple times and didn't hear you say it, so I'm pretty sure you didn't. An important aspect of Skewer that you forgot to mention is that when you hit the sweet spot with it, it completely ignores shields.
Dragon? Check. Fire balls? Check. Play him as if he was two characters. Zone, rush down.
