A question to everyone: how do you cope with the fact that someone else’s feet with sweat and everything have lived inside the used shoes you just purchased? It’s one of the biggest no-no’s for me... But I can’t afford new Allen and Edmonds and I love to do these makeovers on my leather
I have been shining shoes since I was 9 years old, and going around all the pool halls, mafia clubs, and Board Walk in Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. I gave all my earnings to my Mom, because we were poor. I am so happy for these videos.
Whenever I see your work, Its like a skillful artist drawing in a canvas. The usage of the shoe cream colors is impeccable resulting in an awesome finish. Keep up the good work and have the best day.
I just thrifted a pair of Allen Edmonds MacNeils in shell cordovan that look very similar to those for $60. They didn’t look too great at first but the soles still had a bit of life and there was no major damage on the uppers. I cleaned them up with some Saphir Reno’Mat, Renovateur, Cordovan cream, and finally mirror gloss and they look amazing! One of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
Why am I hooked on to your videos? Seriously why. I only have one pair of tan fancy dress shoes which need restoring but so far I have watched close to 10 of you videos in two days. Something about them is addictive.
Fantastic results. It is a pleasure to watch a person combine artistry and skill to create a beautiful work of art. The passion and dedication you apply to your craft "shines" through in every pair of shoes your hands touch.
They look really great 👌🏻 shining my boots in the military was a daily ordeal but it was almost like meditation. Focused on the task thinking about nothing else.
nice work. multicolor shines are not my personal thing, but I can see why some people like it. You know, I get why you like bringing things like this back to beauty. When I restore anything, a lighter, a piece of silver, whatever I may be doing, I know the satisfaction you get when something is done and brought back. Unfortunately, I'll wager there are a lot of people these days that don't know that kind of satisfaction. They don't get it. Keep on doing your thing. Watching it is almost as good as doing it in some ways, I find it relaxing.
You're like the Bob Ross of shoe shines and restorations bro. I watch your videos to learn some new techniques, or when I wanna wind down, and fall asleep. Keep up the great work.
Your videos are brilliant; please keep uploading. I like how you are teaching the viewer (by gentle narration) while showing your processes (adjustments to your technique).
This video really is extra-splendid, and the repairer has a very large skill, I feel. One day I wish to be first-class English gentleman, and this is the shoe I must wear
That pair is american through and through. English pairs are much clean looking, not too much going on, on the upper. Sole is different story, english shoes tend to have chunky, grippy soles maybe due to rain they receive in england.
I’ve been blending colors for about 40 years but was always too conservative to take it to the artistic level you do. What a wonderful look you get by blending and working with the obvious transition areas. Thank you. I hope a lot of young men and women watch these videos at some point and learn to not only take care of their shoes but also become creative with the options available.
David LaMattina help me out, I couldn’t make out the ring insignia. I know a group of gentlemen who dress well and often wear rings, but it didn’t look like one of those to me from the glances I was able to get. What was it?
Please get a bigger SD card! We need full dyeing tutorials. I’ve already done one Patina job but need to see some of your methods from start to finish. Looks great!
so talented! I would really love to learn to do this. I shine my husband's shoes and it is so zen. I just love doing it, though it is just a simple shine, nothing artistic and definitely not the mirror shine lol.
That multi-ringed, waterstained wooden table is essential to your channel. Now, whenever I see a round water stain, I think about your channel and shining my shoes. Damn you and Thank you for instilling this weird phenomenon into me, albeit indirectly.
I am glad that I found your channel. I got inspired from your work and i saved my old Red Chief leather shoe which had lost color. It feels damn good to have restored them to old glory 😀
Amazing work! Thanks for the knowledge. Just one quick note, if I may: Médaille d"Or is pronounced kind of like MED eye door, with the accent on med, and door with the r rolled on the back of the palate instead of curling the tongue at the front. If that makes sense...
I think this is your best video. I'm not a big fan of the red vamp, but the overall effect is incredible and probably better than those shoes have ever looked.
Preston, thank you so much, you have enlightened me to so many real applications... I am forever grateful for you sharing your knowledge with all of us.
It might be worth noting that the burnishing isn’t really the dark areas of toe and near the laces. It would be the comparably “lighter” (in this case redder) areas that would be “burnished” or rubbed through use and thus appear to have lost their comparably darker black toned dye...in the end this beautiful pair really is what a formerly dark dark blackish red would look like if the high wear areas were allowed to “burnish” from use, lose their dark tones, reveal the lighter tones underneath but kept beautifully shined and conditioned throughout. With that visualization it may be easier for others to imagine where and why certain colors go where they do. For example the toe cap/medallion, laces, and counter would never be a lighter shade than the vamp quarters or tongue but you need to know why! Awesome work Preston. 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
Your videos are amazing- I have learned so much! Am hoping to score a pair of 11s at my local thrift to restore for my son, who really needs a classy pair of sharp shoes! Thanks so much!
Another excellent video Preston. Thank you. It’s interesting how much darker leather on the toe caps turned, compared to the vamp and other areas of the shoe, after the Renovateur treatment.
Dam those shoes came out sharp! I enjoyed watching you tint and restore those shoes just as much as I love watching Bob Ross making his paintings. You kinda sound a bit like him too.😂🏞👩🎨
For years I spit shined my boots used cotton balls and such then a sgt taught me how to use a lighter to help me get that super shine in a short amount of time lol great vid
Because of watching you, Kirby and Trenton & Heath, I've ordered my first pair of Allen Edmonds. Fifth Avenue in Oxblood. I'm really looking forward to receiving them. PS I love watching your channel before bed. It's great to relax and enjoy a nice shoe shine. Maybe I'm just weird that way.
Check out Beckett Simonon (T&H reviewed them). I think they're still having their sale now and the FB20 20% off coupon code might still work. It might take a while to get your order though -- mine's shipping estimate is not until next year :(
You do a superb job! Well done good sir. This makes me want to study shoes and how they are made and quality. I would love some wonderful dress shoes! It seems as tho you can bring any pair back from the bin. Good good work
I always enjoy watching your polishing and shinning videos, but one thing i always look forward to is when you remove or take out the shoe trees. I find it very satisfying so please endeavour to take em out more often.
i almost want to go shoe thrifting and do makeovers for the hell of it
Try it out. It’s so fun
Other than a vintage shoe tree, do you have a brand of new shoe trees you would recommend?
@@echoalpha456 he also uses woodlore

That’s an awesome find! Great work!
the shoes went from grandpas ol pair to gangster at the end, love that color
Lol!
You are an artist great hop I love
They look like pimp shoes. Crap.

Your the Bob Ross of shoe restoration.
You are a real craftsman. The care and respect you have for your work really shows. Thank you for those beautiful videos.
This is amazing! I stumbled upon your channel and now, I cannot seem to fall asleep without watching at least 1 video of yours.
Same here. They are SO relaxing!
It’s always amazing to see such a transformation from old and worn to looking nearly new.

I like the graceful way that you handle your hands. It's not just shining shoes etiquettes as well
You turned those shoes into works of art. I'm amazed and inspired.
Preston you are an artist. That was a total transformation.
