The super systems are AWESOME, only problem is that you need to have a decent amount of basic knowledges on guitar before you can understand the theories.
Augmented chords can also create really beautiful progressions as well when they are used as passing tones. Something like Otis Redding's These Arms of Mine is a great example of that. The chords are versatile.
Basically you take the chord frame as your pinpoints and as long as you land on your target note, it doesn't matter too much what you play in between. About that, Periphery's Mark Holcomb has great vids here on youtube, go ahead an check them out!
You can also use the "whole tone scale" over these augmented chords. All of the intervals in the Whole Tone Scale are..... whole steps. Example in G aug : G A B C-sharp E-flat F G. And off you go into the twilight realm of demented riffing.
02:08 Now singing: "Oh Darling, Please believe me, I never do you no harm, Believe Me when I tell you, I never do you no harm" - Paul Mccartney / Beatles
Made a video about *interesting chord progressions* - told us he felt like a challenge Made a video about *ambient chord progressions* - was probably high Made a video about *emotional chord progressions* - assured us he wasn't depressed Uploads this today - I'm still waiting for him to admit he joined a *Joe Satriani Cult*
Also, you made a good point. "There are no rules, only guidelines." The further a song veers from the "guidelines" of music theory, the harder it is to transcribe note for note. Chords are much harder to identify correctly when the voicings are varied. Yes, they are the same chords, but if you're trying to notate the song EXACTLY as it is, your job just got harder. That is the number one obstacle that I face when transcribing songs by ear. I was able to transcribe the lead parts to "Wonderful Slippery Thing" by Guthrie Govan reasonably accurately, but the rhythm parts are really hard for me.
I love Augmented Chords. To me they give off an outside sound. Maybe a Spacey Sound. I play Bass Guitar and I play these chords on Bass as well as the arpeggios. You can seriously transform this to any instrument. But nobody has messed with augmented chords in Synthwave or techno electronic music.
For some good sinister scales, check out Queens of the Stone Age, especially on the songs 'Someone's in the Wolf' and 'Song for the Deaf', both utilise really tense and creepy chord patterns and soloing.
When I was learning to play The Rain Song I was tuned to DGCGCD and playing basic open chord shapes sound hauntingly sinister. Although I had no idea what I was doing theoretically. Try it out though.
Best example of this sound I know is Danny Gatton's Harlem Nocturne. Doesn't get much more sinister from that. It has mmaj7 chords though but they have similar vibe to them as aug chords.
Wtf! i finished already to play an exatonal scale (cause i've never seen what was before) and a notifications rang from my smartphone. After playing the video i heard that chord D: I'm feeling synchronized xD
One really cool song that makes use of this idea is Steve Hackett`s `a tower struck down`. That tune always pierced my soul. Then again, that whole album is as epic a progressive rock album as any pro-rock album next to Yes Close the the Edge, to me anyway. Side note: Get with Paul Reed Smith on making a signature model for you replete with custom truss rod cover \M/ on it. :-)
When I read sinister I was expecting some dissonant metal chords or something along those lines, but got creepy or eerie chords instead. I don't think I could ever consider spooky sounds sinister. Sinister is more vile in nature. Someone with a facade yet have a sinister smile behind it.
Not sure why, but I always associate aug5s with prog music. Doesn't sound sinister at all to me. It sounds fancy. Almost pretentious, but in kind of a good way.
I can play song in a confined room to myself but when i play to other people i stumble...also how to jump or start a new song i mean what should be an interval btw starting a new song and old
What I really want to understand is how to make an augmented chord flow with the song but still seem out of place. Like, if I am in the key of G Major, is it possible to play E minor, G Major, then throw in an augmented chord that... ruffles the ears, before returning to either G Major or E minor?
hey can you make a video on progressions with only major chords? my friend and i wrote a 4 progression that has only major chords and it was bugging mr because it doesnt fit into the modes lol
Man! I swear I just grab my guitar and figure out aug chords triads. And im like cool the shape dont change. And then i click on youtube, i click on your video, and you are talking aug chord.. ha what a coincidence!
gonna see if i'm my sense of melodies is good before watching the video i say : use intervals of dim7, minor 3rd, and add dissonance using 2nd with the root....
2:30 "take this shit"
Avalon I started looking in the comments as soon as I heard that lol 😂
Avalon Lol. Synyster Gates also said that during drinking. Hmm...
I've completed two of Tyler's courses and highly recommend them to anyone who's serious about becoming a better guitar player.
I AM Z Is it free? My guitar teacher is a dick and doesn't teach.
Levi Griffin His programs are very reasonably priced and Tyler provides a link and discount in the low bar of each video.
No, its $25 for lifetime in the desc
The super systems are AWESOME, only problem is that you need to have a decent amount of basic knowledges on guitar before you can understand the theories.

DuckTalesWooHoo1987 The Beatles used it a lot too back in their With The Beatles days. Check out the chorus to All My Loving for a good example.

Now show us how to play a solo with this chord progression.
Mariusz Stepczynski use your ears!
full step scale!
Basically you take the chord frame as your pinpoints and as long as you land on your target note, it doesn't matter too much what you play in between. About that, Periphery's Mark Holcomb has great vids here on youtube, go ahead an check them out!
Best advice ever!
Welcome to jazz

augmented: basically the opposite of diminished. you can play a whole tone scale over it.
Made a video about *interesting chord progressions* - told us he felt like a challenge
Made a video about *ambient chord progressions* - was probably high
Made a video about *emotional chord progressions* - assured us he wasn't depressed
Uploads this today - I'm still waiting for him to admit he joined a *Joe Satriani Cult*
"Meshuggah - Behind the sun" is a perfect example.
Nice SYnister chord progressions
G Lydian #2, b6 sounds pretty gnarly over those chords.
G, A#, B, C#, D, Eb, F#
Your new home studio looks classy, very cool!
Nice video, very sinister...ry
Have you considered adding some mood lights? Your studio is a bit on the dark side at the moment.
Very nice!!!
Also, you made a good point. "There are no rules, only guidelines."

the studio and lights man that's way too rad \m/ and ofcourse the lesson is awesome as always \m/
I don't know how you make theory so captivating, but its awesome that you do. Otherwise I'd probably never learn anything
Good stuff.
I love Augmented Chords. To me they give off an outside sound. Maybe a Spacey Sound. I play Bass Guitar and I play these chords on Bass as well as the arpeggios. You can seriously transform this to any instrument. But nobody has messed with augmented chords in Synthwave or techno electronic music.
your new studio is so great!! you should do a tour of your new house
For some good sinister scales, check out Queens of the Stone Age, especially on the songs 'Someone's in the Wolf' and 'Song for the Deaf', both utilise really tense and creepy chord patterns and soloing.
New place looks great
Tyler, if I watch all of your videos can you get me a honorary degree from Berklee?
"take this shi....Shape"
When I was learning to play The Rain Song I was tuned to DGCGCD and playing basic open chord shapes sound hauntingly sinister. Although I had no idea what I was doing theoretically. Try it out though.
Sinister music- Doom Metal, Death Metal, etc.
Synyster Music- AS THE EMBERS ROSE THROUGH THE ROMAN SKYYYYYYYYYYY
XD
TELL ME WERE YOU CALM WHEN THEY TOOK YOUR LIFEEEEEEEEE
is the scale of the aumented triads whole tone? i'm not sure
Best example of this sound I know is Danny Gatton's Harlem Nocturne. Doesn't get much more sinister from that. It has mmaj7 chords though but they have similar vibe to them as aug chords.
I recently bought Sinister Strings by Kerly. Now everything sounds sinister enough. No need in specific progressions
Wtf! i finished already to play an exatonal scale (cause i've never seen what was before) and a notifications rang from my smartphone. After playing the video i heard that chord D:
I'm feeling synchronized xD
are we getting another guitar giveaway?

1000 likes and you change the title to "synyster"
Yeah awesome! Next vlog about Locrian mode? (So underrated!)
I love Asus2#11 chords, especially on acoustic guitars.
Not sure why, but I always associate aug5s with prog music. Doesn't sound sinister at all to me. It sounds fancy. Almost pretentious, but in kind of a good way.
Have you been listening to In The Presence Of Enemies Part 2 by Dream Theater? John Petrucci loves his effects when making eerie clean chords.
I can play song in a confined room to myself but when i play to other people i stumble...also how to jump or start a new song i mean what should be an interval btw starting a new song and old
That sounds like incidental music from a TV show, to let ya know that something bad is going on, or a character is not to be trusted.
Another good vid! You should work on the lighting for the wide though 😊
Damian Kilsby n
miss ur past setup
Cool for death metal
Don't forget your diminished chords either!

Oh Yeah! FRESHH!!
"Hey check it out Ma, an augmented chord!" 😭😂
Reminds me a lot of Opeth, old albums.
gabriel sancu also Mastodon in Leviathan album
What's that clip thing on your strap?
awesome!!!! to me it seems not only sinister and misterious, but also contemplating, thoughtful
6th, or 13th?

Wyd this early man?!
reminds me to L.A Noire game backsound
Man! I swear I just grab my guitar and figure out aug chords triads. And im like cool the shape dont change.
And then i click on youtube, i click on your video, and you are talking aug chord.. ha what a coincidence!
The lighting makes it look like your using a green screen
Yeah, in his previous setup as well. probably intentional.
try this chord progression, I think its sinister, just don't know the theory behind it II: Cm-Abm-Cm-Gb :II
A lot of this doesn't sound sinister to me, I guess I'm too used to Mercyful Fate and King Diamond songs. It just sounds normal. lol
gonna see if i'm my sense of melodies is good before watching the video
i say : use intervals of dim7, minor 3rd, and add dissonance using 2nd with the root....
vi - IV - III
You're welcome.
