@@J_Themborn Oh absolutely. I was already there. Mortal Kombat just feels so behind the times in playability, competitiveness, and fun factor. It is SO reliant on fatalities and graphics, and the story is just gone now. I genuinely believe if they just started over from the top, square one, let's retell the original trilogy mostly the same but with a much bigger focus on gameplay and ascending MK as a Fighting Game then we'd be great off.
Also it's worth noting Mortal Kombat has had three games to grow, Killer Instinct who was pretty much Mortal Kombat's coat tail riding little brother got it right in one.

That franchise was carried by it's graphic violence and gore. The fact it made headlines also helped in it's popularity. The movie being as good as it was also helped.
Listened to this yesteray and I wanna say, MK doesn't even improve in an upward trajectory MKX, though it looks like ass, feels 1000x better to play than MK11 MK11 feels like playing SF1 in comparison to MKX, and its really off putting for a game so over the top to feel so restrictive with its control and handeling To say nothing of character balance or game mechanics, MKX feels more fun to play because I at least don't feel like I'm underwater the whole f*cking time
MK tends to have a similar problem that sonic the hedgehog has. They’ll have some good ideas here and there but the execution isn’t always excellent. So instead of trying to stick to those good ideas and improve on them they’ll just keep adding in new mechanics that they don’t know how to make feel fun or even balance properly.

I love Mortal Kombat, but I can agree that Netherrealm's writing team is the monarch of writing themselves into corners. They threw away so many cool chances in 11 and decided to go with Time travel, which is inevitably gonna cause bullshit.

I’ve wined and dined MK, loved 9 and MKX and don’t mind the overall story. But now I can’t stand its choices, it wants to be new and cool and throw away the cheesiness of the 90s when deep down it’s lives and dies based of its cheesiness. It also got infected by DC and Warner Bros so now they reboot themselves every second.
@@li-limandragon9287 The problem is, with DC you can tell hundreds, if not thousands of stories with a characters within a decade. NRS rebooted MK in 2011 with MK9. and he is right. MK is stiff AF , it will have the prettiest graphics and fatalities....with the most dogsh*t stance and animation , prepare for the characters to fance-punch and most awkward low kick and punches.
I kinda like MK, but my absolute biggest gripe with it is that they fill the roster with a large amount of zoners, but then make the zoning really really really boring. Projectiles cannot interact with each other unless they are specifically coded to do so. Most projectiles are just going from left to right with nothing special about them. There is just no cool counterplay surrounding it.
As someone who gravitates towards zoners, I 100% agree. I like zoners to be crazy like Dizzy, the Murakumos and JP. NRS zoners have always looked lame as hell.
Seeing Woolie try to come to grips with and try to undermine Pat's defenses was like the best kind of schlocky anime battle. He goes, "so this is the hill you're going to die on?" and then gets hit from behind from a totally different hill that Pat had apparently been standing on all along. And then it happens several more times, each time Woolie more certain that he's going to turn out to be the reasonable one THIS TIME, for real.
Pat has mentioned Matt a lot and even said it'd be weird to pretend that wasn't a large part of his life. It's certain other people that treat it weird. Honestly I kind of hate they still refer to it as "The old channel" though. Not because I'm a fan boy who wants them to go back to it or something, I just think treating it like Voldemort makes it even more awkward.
Both of them never actually have any problem with people talking about the old channel. Its a major part of their brand and career. The only issue is when people are being weird about it, like asking for a reunion, or how they missed "the good old days when everyone were still best friends" or other stupid shit. People just tend do be inconsiderate tactless parasocial jackasses whenever that topic comes up.
I, like Pat, fail to see the value in a hyper violent spectacle that doesnt deliver in any other department as far as enjoying a video game is concerned. Always felt that way... MK 9 was mad fun tho imo
I mean there’s good stuff in there, Mileena’s ending in 11 is legitimately heartwarming but that’s tiny part of a bloated generic mess. People made fun of the Deception era shit but at least it was trying something new.
Playing good fighting games and then playing Mortal Kombat feels exactly like watching good Martial Arts movies and then watching a Steven Seagal movie.
This could've been another Darth Vader comic segment but this time Pat's absolutely right. I've rarely heard people talk about MK gameplay or if it's any good or not but everyone talks about fatalities, graphics and the techno song.
There's genuinely no way that trailer is gameplay, unless it's UE5 or is using a ton of raytracing effects. - No aliasing issues or subpixel shimmering - shadows pick up insanely small details yet get softer the further they're cast - particle effects influence lighting with full global illumination - no polygonal edges in sight. Its 100% an offline render
Pat is right money is what keeping MK relevant, its like Fortnite everyone is dogging on it to have bad gameplay and gun feel but it has infinite money and has guest characters like MK.

I've said it before but as an MK fanboy the problem with MK Vs DC wasn't the lack of violence, I was that it played terrible and the finishers were uncreative. Even when it's a game I care about. Because then I get to playfully yell at Pat in my head that he's SO FRICKIN WRONG ARE, YOU KIDDING ME?!
The cartoonish blood and violence of the first Mortal Kombat was subversive and controversial for its time, but I gotta say that staring at people being turned into living fruit gushers has gotten more and more nauseating as the graphics get more realistic.
Really, the big thing is that it's gotten less and less interesting. Fatalities haven't advanced because the only thing the devs have given them is shock value. They never really understood how to use them to express the characters doing them, except for the Cages. They could _easily_ have crafted Fatalities that exemplify who the fighters are, but all I see is "oh, they're all Jigsaw with different tools."
