Neil Finn & Friends - Private Universe (Live from 7 Worlds Collide)
• Neil Finn & Friends - ...
From the concert film 7 Worlds Collide.
Recorded Live at The St. James Theatre in Auckland, New Zealand in April of 2001.
Live band features Johnny Marr (The Smiths) and Ed O'Brien (Radiohead) on guitars, Lisa Germano (John Mellencamp) on violin & keyboards, Phil Selway (Radiohead) on drums, and Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing) on bass.
Lyrics
No time, no place to talk about the weather
Promise of love is hard to ignore
Who said the chance wasn't getting any better
Labor of love is ours to endure
Highest branch on the apple tree
It was my favorite place to be
I could hear them breaking free
But they could not see me
I will run for shelter
Endless summer lift the curse
It feels like nothing matters
In our private universe
I have all I want, is that simple enough?
A whole lot more I'm thinking of
Every night about six o'clock
Birds come back to the pond to talk
They talk to me, birds to talk to me
If I go down on my knees
I will run for shelter
Endless summer lift the curse
It feels like nothing matters
In our private universe
Feels like nothing matters
In our private universe
And it's a pleasure that I have known
And it's a treasure that I have gained
And it's a pleasure that I have known
It's a tight squeeze, but I won't let go
Time is on the table and the dinner's cold
I will run for shelter
Endless summer lift the curse
Feels like nothing matters
In our private universe
I will run for shelter
Endless summer lift the curse
Feels like nothing matters
In our private universe
This was alway one of my favourite crowded house songs. We're delving into the darker corners of a wonderful band. This live version is from neil's 7 worlds collide concert in Auckland, new zealand. The "friends" are johnny marr from the smiths on guitar, colin greenwood and ed o'brien from radiohead on bass and drums and the incredible lisa germano on backing vocals and violin (at least I think it's violin). just a freaking incredible pool of talent on one stage...
Fantastic song, Neil's voice is phenomenal, so emotive.
Crowded House are one of my fave bands. "7 Worlds Will Collide" is a line from their song "Distant Sun", maybe another tune to check out.
Neil & Tim Finn max sessions Finn brothers absolutely fantastic
I love you guys. You always bring a huge smile to my face. Everything Neil Finn touches is gold. I hope you will listen to One Step Ahead, with strings Auckland 2015. So beautiful. Thanks again from this kiwi girl for todays gems. Keep them coming 🥝🥝🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
Being listening to Neil since the late 70s in all his different transformations, never gets old.
Neil Finn/Crowded House don't miss! they were top notch from day one! great song off a great album!
loved him since Split Enz days! Crowded House was unique. They could studio up for the album versions then strip it down for live & both sound great!
I just saw Crowded House 3 days ago in Melbourne, absolutely brilliant.
So guess who Mick Fleetwood called up to replace Lindsay Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac... ah yes none other than Neil Finn..
Neil is NZ's most prolific song writer. He has his own studio and in 2017 recorded 4x Friday night 2 hour live-stream sessions leading up to and recording his latest album "Out of Silence"
Thank you for featuring one of NZ's favorite sons and friends.
As Kiwi's in a funny little country we are very proud of Neil.
Yes sir very proud🇳🇿✌️
oh I saw crowded house in a small theatre (3000) and they were absolutely incredible - for about 3 hours
You guys are always hammered lol.
Check out Neil & Johnny Marr doing cover of Smith's song There is a Light that Never Goes Out, it's brilliant. I don't enjoy the original now after hearing Neil cover it. It's in 7 Worlds Collide concert as well.
Got some info wrong. Ed O'Brien (guitar, not bass) and Phil Selway (drums) from Radiohead. Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing) on bass. Sebastian and Lisa got along so well they got together after the shows and are now a couple.
That's my fault in the request. I tried to do it from memory and that never quite works out right. The intentions were good, though, even if the facts weren't quite there. At the end of the day, it's the music that's important, and in my books, this song, this performance, is about as good as it gets.
Gorgeous, ethereal pop
Ooh nice description 👏
Eddie Vedder also sang at that concert, not sure why Day neglected to mention...
This sounds like a song about loving someone your not supposed to be loving, just like his song, into temptation.
I think Neil Finn is talking about our own special place that we go to when we seek peace and quiet and solitude.
In one of the hilarious series of novels called "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", galactic president Zaphod Beeblebrox, whose great streak of good luck seems to never end, is eventually shown that the universe he is living in was actually designed specifically for his own benefit. His own, Private Universe, in a way.
whoops daisies actual dates back to the Black Plague and the belief that the smell of flowers could help ward of the plague - the children rhyme ring around the rosy pocket full off posies is also from plague times and about the the plague
talking to myself and i said its his GENTLE PROJECTION. IM w u dude. lol. how bizzare
We all live in our private universe.
Travis mate you opened up a can of worms there!
🇦🇺👍
Niel Finn is Paul McCartney's favourite songwriter .
BWAHAHAHA!
Just at the peak and before the ending you stop it to ask a question, "would you like to be in your own private universe?" ... Oh my God how frustrating, obviously this song did not hold your focus enough to stop you both from talking nonsensical sheeet.
Yawn ,

lol , seethed you did. @@Coowallsky
@@andysparks1973 Not at all. It was fun watching you self-immolate on a public forum. Jerzei Balowski would find it a hoot.
@@Coowallsky , i wrote one word , "yawn" , how many have you written ?
@@andysparks1973 Enough to accurately describe your response.
the name of the album was TOGETHER ALONE. Neil sings sweet but thers darkness lurking. peace
