I think critics are missing the fact Acolyte means follower and while we see the red light saber we never see who is wielding it. Can’t wait!

To be clear, the whole point of the Jedi saying the Sith have been extinct for generations is to display their ignorance. It’s not meant to be a fact. It’s meant to lead up to Order 66. I mean if you take a second to think about it, Qui Gon literally tells the counsel he thinks the Sith are back and they don’t really believe him.. and then he dies.. and they’re like “Oh, he was right, we should’ve listened” which leads Count Dooku to becoming a Sith. So Count Dooku becoming a Sith and helping Sidious is a direct consequence of the Jedi’s ignorance.

Oh yes. There is definitely an arrogance in the Jedi, specifically the Council. But my point isn't that the Sith don't exist during this time... it's that they're hidden. Unseen. Should the Jedi have sensed their presence? Their plotting? Absolutely! But a lot of that has to do with Sidious and his Sith abilities.
So my point is that it's sits funny if a sith is revealing their presence to the Jedi.

@@smolsfamilyreactions "don't exist' and 'hidden' are basically contradictory. For something to be hidden, it must exist. As the OP said, they could have been swept under the rug; as they say, history is written by the victors, so they could easily exist and have been encountered and then defeated, but then swept under the rug so someone a thousand years later would think these encounters never happened. Also, red lightsabers don't automatically mean 'Sith.'

@@p-forest He obviously means the Sith shouldn't be believed to exist and should not be presenting themselves to the Jedi. Also I'm pretty sure The Acolyte is set 50-100 years before TPM. Which would mean many of the Jedi Council members will be around during this time.

Why would anyone have mixed feelings about this? It's so exciting that we are going to see something new in Star Wars.

If you haven’t checked out the High Republic I highly recommend it. The Jedi council as shown in the High Republic is also known to keep things under wraps. There’s a major weapon that they don’t share their knowledge of with the rest of the galaxy.

I've heard in the High Republic novels/comics the Jedi encountered some sort of creature that's a major threat to them. When the Jedi defeated them, they then covered it up so nobody would know. I'm guessing not to start a panic. Idk the exact details, but that's what I heard. So this will probably go one of two ways. Either the sith will be defeated, and the Jedi involved will cover it up, or the Sith kills all the witnesses. Gotta remember the Jedi from the prequels have their heads burried in the sand. They didn't know Palpatine was right in front of them. I believe this show is at the tail end of the High Republic, and this will probably start the chain reaction that eventually leads to the purge. That's my guess anyway. I in no way believe they're gonna go against the lore from the prequels. The Sith have always been there.

Well said and I subscribed due to your take on this, but also due to the fact that you said you want to see Star Wars succeed. It's nice to see Star Wars reviewers and fans who aren't hating on it, but also not overly optimistic. Good stuff man and let's hope for the best!

As far as the idea that Ki-Adi Mundi put forth that The Sith were extinct, that..? was literally by design. Darth Bane's policy of secrecy and shadow manipulations were what ultimately undid The Jedi.
The seeming "power discrepancy " shown in the trailer was another aspect - fewer Dark Siders meant that the "well" of the Dark Side had more available - meaning even greater feats of Force Powers for said Dark Siders.
More than likely, as this is said to be set 100 years before TPM, the story is about the Master of Darth Plagueis. Palpatine most likely wasn't his first apprentice. My thoughts, anyway.

I believe the Jedi Council would cover up any Sith activity in their growing hubris over the thousand years of being the guardians of peace. They would rather keep their image going than admit that they know Sith are alive to the republic or even to the wider Jedi Order.

I wonder what the ring in the O of the Acolyte title is. Maybe its connected to the upcoming Star Wars Eclipse game which i believe is also supposed to be set during the high republic and have some sort of darkness surfacing.

So honestly I don't care about any of that. Just give me something new. My only issue is that the good guys have to lose and we are stuck in that story with anything too close to the original stories. New people can change completely everything from the prequels or original series because the story telling has always been loosely follow by Lucas himself so who are we to complain.

To my knowledge The Acolyte happens 50-100 years before TPM. If a Sith appears it fundamentally breaks canon as many members of the Jedi Council in TPM will be alive. They will without a doubt know about the Sith returning. Even if somehow they don't find out about the Sith returning and all of the Jedi who encounter the Sith die, the Council would still investigate this matter. Sure the Jedi are arrogant but they aren't borderline stupid (at least in the movies).

And it goes against Darth Maul's statement, "At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi...."
And Darth Sidious's statement in Revenge of the Sith "I've waited a long time for this moment...."

@@smolsfamilyreactions That's a really point. My guess is that they're not gonna call them a Sith and call them a dark side user instead. But I wont buy it when it's literally just going to be a Sith.
