Did Mae switch with Osha at the end?!!! I missed that!! Oh the fun of recording reactions....sometimes things get missed! But if she did switch...how is that going to play out? Wouldn't Sol sense that is not Osha through the force?
I did notice the Kylo Ren theme though! Intentionally used... will there be a connection to the Knights of Ren? Who could be considered acolytes.
Anyway....enjoyable episode! Hopefully they keep it going!

Osha has the tattoo on her arm. If Mae can hide her tattoo on the head, I think Sol will see her arm without the tattoo...and she won`t recognize Pip and Bazel could smell her, too. I think he will play the game and won´t say anything when he recognizes Mae. Like he played Osha at the Jedi test!😉

Man; THANK YOU for approaching this series like a normal, rational person! 🙏🙂
I appreciate you being honest with both the show’s shortcomings and its merits.
From the start, there have been narrative moments that have felt “off.” For example: The flashback episode, in which events didn’t cleanly line up with character dialogue and apparent motivations. This could be attributed to one of two things:
1- Intentional Obfuscation. A common storytelling device, in which the viewer is getting only PART of the story in order to slowly reveal an unraveling mystery.
    Or,
    2- Bad writing.
To me, it seems obvious that the first option is in play. Things are not exactly as they seem. The crazy thing is, many people seem to be intentionally blinding themselves to this, and calling it “bad writing.”
Don’t get me wrong; there is some bad writing/clunky dialogue in this series, but it is no worse than some of the stuff we encountered in the Prequels (and to a lesser extent, even in the OT). Yet many critics ignore that, while heaping on the hate when it occurs here.
Five episodes in, and I’m still invested. It has been actually SPELLED OUT that we haven’t seen the complete story behind Osha and Mae’s past. We haven’t seen how events played out during the Jedi encounter during their childhood. We don’t know yet how “The Sith” entered the picture or how he’s connected to the witches.
This story could still jump the shark, but it appears that the writers know what they’re doing. I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt and continue to watch.
Thanks again for what you do, it is greatly appreciated!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't think the show is perfect, but it's been quite disappointing to see a few reviewers who are normally pretty fair being deliberately obtuse when dealing with this show. I'd have no issue with them saying that they don't like it, or they're not enjoying it, but apparently that isn't enough, and they have to blame the bad writing/acting/etc. Which I'm sure goes down well with those who just wanted to hate it from the outset, and those who haven't watched a minute of it. But for those of us who are watching it, they look very disingenuous.

It looks like they improved the lightsabers from ahsoka (though I still really like the fights in that). In that show they had to wear wired battery packs down their clothes, but for this they compacted it all into the hilt, which is why it’s so much more fluid and active. Although I’d guess not having to wear giant fake lekku probably helped as well lol.

  • @KittyBoom360
    @KittyBoom360 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yeah, Qimir will become Ren, the founder of the Knights of Ren. I think it's pretty obvious at this point. The helmet, the theme music, being nameless, saying that only a naive Jedi would call him Sith, healing Osha with the force, it all points to him not actually being a Sith Lord but something else, more aligned with the lore, Ren.

  • @RG2088
    @RG2088 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

Some of the best lightsaber action we've seen in years! If only we had longer episodes to really dive into character development. Disney needs to stop with these 25-30 minute episodes-they feel like chopped-up movies instead of a cohesive show. I'm enjoying the series, but I think it will be more satisfying to watch it all at once.
Now, I think Qimir isn't a Sith but a Knight of Ren, especially since we hear Kylo Ren's theme when he stands over Osha. The true Sith might reveal themselves at the end to kill Qimir, perhaps. I don't think Sol makes it out of this, so the real question is: what happens to Mae and Osha?

18:51 You could say that there was only a Sol survivor =P
19:10 No. Bazil is wearing the same civilian robe that Mae's wearing.
21:39 I'm not all that disappointed about this reveal. We knew Palpatine was the bad guy well before the Jedi did. Palpatine played a part similar to Qimir's "fool" in ROTS when being saved by Anakin and Obi-Wan on Grevious' ship. Deception is how the Sith survive, so they all have to play their part.
21:57 Star Wars has always been on the nose, yeah? He has a red lightsaber, not dark orange like Baylon Skoll. He's in a series called Acolyte, which is a term that I thought was used exclusively by Sith. Qimir is looking for a pupil, which is what a master would do. That said, I would be surprised if he thought he defeated his master and was doing what was necessary to start anew. We still have three or four more stories to go AND another flashback! I still think Qimir was on Brendok and that he or his master was the one who sliced the platform before the Jedi interrupted the ceremony. While age doesn't mean much in the acting world, the actor playing Qimir is 11 years older than the actress playing Mae/Osha; he would have been a young adult during the Brendok incident, 18-ish.
I still think Sith and witches formed a pact or that they are in fact, witches. Qimir's line at the end eludes to him being the same thing that Mae is. Osha told Yord that her mother could get into people's heads the same way Qimir could. Was he created in the Force too or is he a witch too? The power he used to push back all the Jedi could be the same power that took out all the witches. Did he enter Torbin's mind that night and attack the other Jedi? Is that why we see Kelnaac fighting him in that quick flash from the teaser trailer? The Jedi bolted after the fire and they all looked unnerved by what had happened. They were probably lucky to have survived. Torbin was a padawan and probably blamed himself more than he should have. His mind was too weak and easily manipulated. Maybe someone made him do something that kicked the whole thing off. Mother Koril looked very worried when she spirited Mae and Osha back to the Coven, but was her worry for the Jedi or whatever else was outside their walls?
This was a very fun episode. Bring on next week!

I would quite disagree with you regarding the skill level of the Jedi at this point in time. Jedi of this time were doing lightsaber training like normal people do yoga. They actually looked down on the more aggressive lightsaber techniques as being needlessly violent. The Jeffy were at the top of their lightsaber game during the old Republic when they were at constant was with the sith. Back then being lax with your saber skills could literally man your death at the hands of a sith blade. 1000 years of peace meant 1000 years of not taking your training seriously. This is why so many Jedi died here and again why they died in such large numbers later at Geonosis.

You are the only person who has mentioned hearing the Kylo Ren theme as i have. It plays earlier too, when he floats. HAve you read many of the new comics? Thinkubf he could be Ren, of the Knights of Ren..... the guy Ben Solo defeated.
I personally find the everyone has rose colored glasses on when remembering the Ep1 saber fight (Maul and his saber with John Williams epic score really overshadow the mediocre saber choreography. although i did like obi vs maul at the end). I say this because i think this is the best saber coreography we have ever gotten. Whoever is responcible needs to be hired full time at Lucasfilm. Ep3 had some decent stuff, but again, the character/emotions/usic elevate the choreography in my opinion (and it also has the worst saber fight in the series. Palpatine vs the jedi lol). I still love Empire, Jedi and The Force Awakens, and would probably put them above this (really any time kylo fights. loved his style), but this is a step above in terms of choreography.

    • @smolsfamilyreactions

My favorite saber duel will always be Anakin vs. Obi Wan. It's not just the choreography(which I know some didn't care for), but the culmination of Anakin's turn. The emotion of it... and of course that music!
Then the Darth Maul duel in The Phantom Menace. And I'm with you, I love Kylo Ren's aggressive, menacing style. Qimir's style reminded me of that. And, I love Star Wars music and the specific character themes. I listen to it all the time. So, I immediately recognized it(although I didn't hear it the other time you referenced).
Curious to see where they take this as it is 100 years before the prequels. But I'm certainly not opposed to a lore building Ren story line.

The only reason to change Ki-Adi Mundi's age is to make him complicit in the cover up of whatever was done to require a cover up - so that when he says 1000 years in The Phantom Menace he's lying. There is no other requirement for him to be there - there are other members of the coucil who are long lived and wouldn't require the age change for them to be around at this moment - which should have been vrought by the story group - who are suspiciously quiet. Were they over ruled?

My theory is that their brothers, that's why he said he sent something familiar, I don't believe he was a former Padawan but family and he was taken away from Dark Side Force users, but somehow his brother remained to be trained by ? Because once again the Jedi and the Republic law states that only Jedi can train force a depth children? I also believe Master Sol use one of those Jedi Mind Tricks like they used on Darth Revan to install false memories and wipe what truly happen from her mind! As of now the only people that know that a Sith exists are May and Master Soul so if they die or cover it up then it doesn't quote violate Cannon! Is Qhymar the master or the apprentice? Qhymar has clearly embrace the dark side of the force and let it consume him where his master Sol has fought it off but some kind of shit went down at the witches Temple and he let loose you saw how powerful he became when he became angry and started to use the dark side of the force! And again just like when Anakin was stupid enough to cut off Mace Windu's arm and stop him from killing Palpatine, it was stupid of May to stop him from killing Qhymar ,but then again that would in the show pretty quick wouldn't it so there's got to be more in the next three episodes before the final showdown and resolution as the weather anybody henceforth will know that they're Sith that are back or cover it up!

Episode 5 down in the books. Agree with you fellow Star Wars Dad, this was one of the better episodes so far, but to me it still suffers from the same issues that I have about the overall show. I'll start with the positives. The action was well choreographed and filmed! You can tell that the actors really put in the work to sell these light saber battles (👏👏)! Master Sol continues to be the anchor of this show (IMO). Whether it is his acting or his fight scenes, he has been the most consistent throughout this series. You also get a sense of what might have happened in the past when you see him lose control and almost succumbs to his anger and the dark side, especially in this episode. Lord Yord (RIP) also hints at feeling taken over by this dark force when he and Osha are fleeing to their ship. And as I alluded to last week, the pacing picked up and the story has progressed but that also falls into my criticisms of the show.
I'm almost convinced, after watching 5 eps, that this show was a pitch for a 90 + min movie. The way that its edited, the abrupt endings and the way that some episodes feel like the last part of a longer episode given where they start and end. At times the writing feels repetitive with scenes that should've been cut out that don't really serve the actual story or any character development. Characters often make decisions that seem to only serve the moment instead of the actual story, like Mae doing a complete 180 in episode 4 wanting to turn herself in to the jedi, abandoning her "master" and her quest for revenge, all b/c she discovers her sister survived the fire (Ok?). Only to complete the full 360 (Tony Hawk would be proud) changing her mind in this episode as if the events in episode 4 never happened. She has every opportunity in this episode to not only assist the Jedi but also her sister. Then we get a bizzarro picturesque moment between the twins that feels like a deleted scene that not only cuts the flow and tension from what happened moments before but then contradicts what Mae said she'd do in episode 4. Then she cuts her hair with the lightsaber (burnt hair has a particular odor), pulls a freaky Friday, LEAVES her sister behind for Shark Sidious to find her and joins Sol masquerading as her twin.
Side note, you're telling me, that Master Sol, who in episode 1 was using the force to get someone to tell the true events of what happened on that prisoner escort ship, can't sense Mae isn't Osha? But don't worry Scrappy Doo is on the case to smell her out for the lead into episode 6? Bruh?
BTW, I saw your comment. Come on man you couldn't tell they did a "Freaky Friday" at the end of the episode (criss cross)?
This show suffers from too much down time and nothing really compelling in between the action sequences to keep me invested in the story and the characters. If this wasn't Star Wars, I would've stopped watching a few episodes ago. I hate to keep bringing up Andor, but it flowed naturally week to week even though it was a slow burn. It fell into a 3-act structure where each episode fell into place and the writing was not only competent, but it also made sense. The Acolyte is kind of a beautiful mess that feels like it has not only been rushed but if edited differently could've been a better overall show or movie. The pieces and talent are here, which makes it even more frustrating to watch.
Here I go rambling and typing again.... 😂

Star Wars has always been that way and it's up to the viewers imaginations to fill in the blanks. Until they explain it 20 years later.

Mae cut her suddenly longer hair with a light saber to segway to a Parent Trap cliche.
You have to question the creative process of someone who names their characters OSHA, NSA(ya) and (Fanny) Mae.

The show has been a 5 or a 6 to me..this ONE ep raised it to a 7. This ep saved the entire show for me. Its still "Mid overall" but not a waste of time to watch now.

The fight scenes were better but it’s still a very weak story with bad dialogues
The reveal of Qimir was way too predictable
    But finally we got something

See I thought the “master” was Koril so I was a bit surprised it was Qimir.

@@MbgFire2067I'm not. Having it as one of the mothers would be lame. This is better. Manny Jacinto is perfect for this.
