With my iron PW I was getting maybe 110 tops out of it with a really good strike. I have found the hybrids almost impossible to slice, difficult to fade and pretty easy to hit straight, a draw, or a hook. Game changers for me. For reference, I am 69 years old. I’ve used the Adams Idea Tech hybrid irons for 2 years. I’m 69 and my iron play was suffering. I found these in a used club store. I payed $230.00. They are 3-5 traditional hybrids and 6-pw+gw hollow back irons. They fly high, stop well, and are pretty easy to hit. My iron game is the best I’ve ever had. My scoring suffers because of old guy distance loss. I actually don’t use the 4-6 hybrids. I use a 5,7, and 9 wood. My next move is sadly, moving up a tee. I don’t mind playing worse, because my mates still put up with me.
Retired playing due to arthritis years ago. I have a set 7-15 hybrids, regular sand wedge for chipping and 5 wood hooded over for driving. One year between practicing more than I ever had and using those clubs I played the best time of my golf life. Those clubs sent the ball high! Get the feel for the right club distance and the ball would fall from the sky staying on the greens. I had been playing in 90's but shot in the 80's with eight rounds at 80 even. Some of those courses were difficult. Pretty dramatic change! If upcoming surgery allows me to play again I'd buy the hybrids again.
I bought some hybrid clubs 4-pw from a company called Lazrus. Best golf purchase I’ve ever made. When I got back into recreational/weekend playing golf I got a full set of Top Flite club from Dick’s Sporting goods, used them for about 6 months. Then I bought some one length clubs 5-pw, I hit them pretty good, used these for about 6mo’s. The I started researching hybrids clubs, so seeing I’m a budget golfer I decided to try the Lazrus hybrids so I ordered a set of 5-pw, I already had the 3wood and 4hybrid from Lazrus. I cannot tell you how much my game improved when I started hitting the hybrids. I wouldn’t ever go back to traditional irons
I love the videos of you playing Rick. I bought a set of Lazrus Hybrids 2-PW, it took a while to get used to them, I love them originally and now, a while there I was really missing the irons. I carry the 9 iron and pitching wedge in irons, dropped the 2 hybrid and have my driver and putter. The distance is 2 clubs for me. Sometimes I play the odds in hybrids a driver and 3 wood, my wedges with the putter. A versatile bag. Lazrus hybrids about $300 for the set. Very forgiving and easy distance. Get the silver and black, they don’t show the scratches.
Interesting looking clubs. The old Alien Sand Wedge irons have a really wide and flat sole like that SW hybrid so the design is similar in performance, just don't need as much of a back swing to get out of a bunker or rough. Good review, especially for high handicap and older golfers.
I am a hacker who went from not being able to break 100 to shooting low 90’s by using 7 hybrids (3-9) in my bag. It made the game way more fun for me. And I still have 2 wedges for short chips. It was pricey though , all Calloway mavrik max’s. I’m not a senior but I recommend for those wanting to improve quickly without hours of practice.
I use the Cleveland HALO hybrid iron set. They’ve really helped me find my swing and I'll probably go to a more traditional style of irons in the future; but even I knew to keep a couple of wedges in my bag for the close work. I'd have no faith in myself with a sand wedge hybrid.
Same here - agree w/you 100% The Cleveland hybrids have helped my game immensely, since they are so forgiving. And I use regular wedges (Clevelands, of course!). The only slight downside for me is that the clubheads are heavier than normal irons, which sometimes taxes my wrists a bit. Otherwise, they are great - and not too expensive!
I've seen full hybrid sets before and they are a pretty neat concept! You can see why too as they just seem to pop the ball up from anywhere. Even in the bunker. But this set's SW is no SW loft and I could tell just by looking at it, lol! I checked and it's at 46 degrees of loft. But there are hybrids in actual wedge lofts if needed out there. Sadly non-bare-metal finishes always seem to have that finish wear issue which is why I generally don't favor those. But there's many hybrid sets out there with said bare metal.
I’m glad your able to review these. I don’t like this particular set because of the color etc. I have a set of the black Wasaki hybrids and much better to look at. After a stroke these were very helpful to me. My ego made me go with more traditional irons after my recovery. I’m keeping the Wasakis hybrids around just in case I need them in the future. I have tried most Super Game Improvement irons and the Wasaki are better. By the way, I could not keep the head covers on while playing. They were made the bag look silly. I do feel you “pros” should be able to play with anything… but egos get in the way with pros too! Hope to you try this out on the course for fun.
My father is a club maker in FL and he makes more sets of all hybrids than anything else these days. In fact, that's what I've been hitting the last 2 years.
I love to play hybrid sets. Started out playing with Orlimar IRS 3-pw (19°-47°) then moved to Thomas Golf at725 2-gw (18°-50°) played for at least 6 years. I now have Bang O Matic 1-lw (12°-61°). Lazrus is in the works of coming out with a gw for there hybrid set and when they do there's a very good chance I will putting them in bag with my Cobra S9-1M offset 9.5°, Cleveland CBX2 54°&58° wedges and my Scotty Cameron Squareback 2 putter.
I added a 8 Hybrid to my bag because I couldn't get the loft I needed from my 7 iron....I found out just what you did Rick, it works! It takes time to get used to it but as a 60+ golfer I can now hit a high lofted 150 yarder into a green.
When I started playing I bought every crazy infomercial golf club I saw. Some of them were great, some weren't. But 20 years later I still have and use the "Perfect Club" hybrid. My favorite old weird club
Do it, Rick! Give them a chance. Last winter, I bought a set (3-PW) of Majek senior hybrids. Amazon had them for $349. I have been using them since our course opened in May, and it took me a while to get used to them. Lately, I have been hitting them great. I was surprised how well the pitching wedge works. The only thing that I am envious of in the Wazaki set is the covers. The Majeks come with knit head covers and they are a pain to put on. I use them though because I saw some reviews of the clubs that said they get dinged up pretty badly if you don't use them. If you don't care for them, find a senior golfer and let them try them out for a while.
the black and blue one look great was going to get a set off them but got a set of i wilson deep red tour but still planing off getting the black and blue WaZaki Hybrid Iron Set as back up at some stage
G'day Rick, I've been using a set of Callaway FT Ibrid clubs since 2015. They're amazing. I took out the SW and PW which were a more traditional club and bought some Black Magic 37, 48 and 56 degrees. Also amazing. The bunker play is slightly different but the ball always lifts high and lands soft. I'm often able to chip in. These clubs have given me more confidence in my abilities.
Such clubs have been around for quite awhile. I played for a couple of years (about a decade ago) a set of Forgan Golf Hybrids (3-SW). Absolutely loved them and they made me competitive for the skill level I was at back then. There are a number of benefits to them but you have to drop the mindset that they aren't a blade and not going to swing, feel or play like a blade. Forgan still makes there version and if it wasn't for the fact that I play 1 Length now, wouldn't have a problem going back to them if I felt the need.
When I started playing golf about 20 years ago, my dad had a set of these and I loved them.....don't know who made them but thank you for the memory Rick!
I started with wooden drivers, steel-titanium-fiberglass and graphite shafts and 47 years later have a lot of hybrids in my bag. Technology has been helpful to my game throughout the years but feel the equipment rules for could be altered to allow for more benefits to counter the effects of age and ailments for those that don't compete in tournament or professional events.
Have been using a set of Rife (American Golf own brand) RX4 hybrid irons for almost a year now, as a 70 year old I was struggling with conventional irons, the RX4s look takes some getting used to but they have helped my game, slightly cheaper at £299 for 4-SW, got the closest to an ace that I've had in over 50 years, put the 5 iron to 15" on a 159yd par 3 about a month ago. Only club I don't like is the SW, because it has zero bounce, it fine for chipping but very unpredictable out of bunkers, have an old lob wedge with lots of bounce for bunkers.
My dad bought a set of Spaulding Executive XEs back in the 80’s, same concept. Huge bubble back. He couldn’t hit them so he bought a set of Pings. My father in law bought the same Spaulding and same result. The Florida salt air corroded the inside of the steel shaft to the point where he hit a 5 iron off the tee and the club head went farther than the ball.
I carry a 3, 4, and 5 hybrids in my bag, as well as an old Ginty trouble wood, which can get you out of all but the gnarliest US Open style rough. The hybrids are so much easier to hit than the equivalent iron. For senior golfers hybrids are a no-brainer!
I bought the Callaway Ibrid irons about 15 years ago because of pain in my hands. I installed graphite shafts and I love them. The back of the clubs have a shaft damping material. I don't care what the clubs look like as long as I hit them straight, which I do. Great video Rick.
I have a set of bazooka hybrids i borrowed from my father in law. The concept is great. Love the "shank" you attempted. I golf with ping eye 2 BeCu he got me for my retirement gift. Cant put them down.
I found the ultimate set of Hybrid irons. Wilson Launchpad irons. 4 iron through approach wedge. You will have to pry them from my dead cold hands. Love the video.
Absolutely awsome. I've got myself a 4H which is amazing but 4 5 and 6I I can not use lol but my 4H saves me every time . Keep up the amazing golf buddy love watching your vids
I had the corbra trail hybrids, drunk purchase (dont ask) but they went well providing you was on the fairway or greenside . Anything behind the ball not a chance of hitting them
Got a set of the Eleven hybrid 5-PW as my speed is done due to age and mobility issues; take a few rounds to get used to basically cheat sticks a low strike still pops up nicely. The biggest surprise is the PW out of a greenside bunker - up and out. Downside was the paint wore off quite quickly. Highly recommended.
A few years ago i tried the Cleveland Launchers at a my local course during a fitting day. Loved them. Plenty distance and height and most importantly, straight! However, because they all “ looked” like hybrids, i was talked out of buying them and went with Taylormade M3s. Still kick myself in the ass every time i golf. And yes, my ass is very sore! Lol.
Just a quick add on- i think 3-8 in hybrids would be ideal and fill rest of bag with driver and your preference on wedges. Add the putter and you’ll be fine. Hit ‘em well.
These would be right at home with my Cleveland Classic Driver! I love the looks of these and the head covers are so neat! I wish more companies made clubs with that color pallet!
Love this video! Yes please take them out and break 75!! I actually owned a set of hybrids similar to these but they got stolen before I could play them ..booo! Lol, great content Rick!!
Tour Edge Bazooka J-MAX all hybrids. I got the set for free and they were my first set that I used for years. I never knew it was weird until I got older. I didn't use head covers though.
I use Wilson Launch Pad irons. Like these easier to strike, no shanks, they get the ball airborne very easily. Sand iron takes some extra practise to get used to.
A little late for the poll but I'd like to weigh in. I was writing a response and had stop and think about it for a second because I think it's a subjective decision. Although I'm getting older, I haven't seen a dip in performance when it comes to striking, accuracy or trajectory. However, although I start short and warm up into full distances once loose, it's taking longer to get there and the overall distance is starting to slip ever so slightly. So my approach would be to get a club that allows me to sustain the same results but alleviate the need to lay into it as much to get those distances. Getting a traditional forgiving club kinda dampers the shaping I can do and thickness throws me off(bad), so my "more forgiving" club wouldn't be like going and just getting an easier club to hit. I've just always had the mindset that no club will make you a good golfer but there IS a perfect set out there for whatever personal position you're at in your golf swing/career.
*leaves a 10 footer* “we’ll give me that for par” LOL sounding more and more like me everyday Rick 😂😂😂 fun video, would love to see em in a break 75! Like secured 👍
As a 75 year old senior with a 10.8 index, I do play a set of Eleven hybrids (Sub70 UK) 5-PW. I carry no fairway woods, My 18* and 21* hybrids are Callaway Epic Super. My driver is Krank 12*. I totally agree that the hybrids are not good for chipping and pitching, so I do carry a Ping ChioR and my custom specialty (normal) wedges at 48*, 52* and 56*. From what we denote as senior tees, I can break 80 consistently. Recently shot a -3 (69j but that was an anomaly. For slower swinging players, an all hybrid set instead of irons will work.
I can hit a 3-4 iron but the hybrid feels like a mini wood and gives me that confidence on the long shots. The set I have came with a three and four hybrid. I miss having a 4 iron but I just hit my 4 hybrid so well and so clean I don’t want to get rid of it. My 4 hybrid hits 195-205. My 3 hybrid goes 210-230 and now I find myself dropping the 3 & 5 wood for a HL 3 wood. This gives me an extra wedge at the bottom. There are definitely times where I wish I could do a hooded 4 iron but have to settle for using a 5. However I use the 4 hybrid from the fairway or on short 3’s and I love the extra height on it. My real conundrum right now is my wedges. I want to fit a lob wedge in but I’m not sure which club to take out. I have a sand, gap, approach, and pitching wedge. They all have lower lofts that makes so I almost never use my 9 iron. I only pull it out in the high 130’s but I’d rather hit a soft 8 when I hit the 140’s. I’m seriously considering dropping it for a lob wedge.
I have 3 and 5 Ben hogan hybrids in my bag Now I want a 4 and 6 because they perform way better when I’m spent. Still have the respective irons for deep rough.
11:20 to 11:29 has always summed up my view on hybrid clubs..... you NEED the specialist wedges and driver,, but for everything else.... hybrid clubs just make life easier.
i remember while working in a pro shop in the 90s selling a set of macgregor ladies clubs that had 1,3,5,7,9 and 11 woods and 8 iron down obviously this was before rescue and hybrids were around, but they were unbelivably popular .

I don’t mind playing worse, because my mates still put up with me.
How about a 9 hole video with 2 Finch and Frier where you all bring a set of exotic or forbidden clubs and swap every 3 holes?
Those head covers with that bag actually looks really sick.
I wouldn’t ever go back to traditional irons
unshankable? hold my beer Rick
I would love to see a break 75 with those. Plus D, 3W, 60, 56, 52, P.
With how Rick has been playing lately these seem like a good fit. 😂
Would love to see you play nine holes with the Launchpad irons, less gimmicky but might help
Beginners. 👍
I had a golfing buddy use an entire hybrid set like this (but only to 9 iron) about 5 years ago and he loved them.
Never seen Rick look so comfortable over a chip shot
Have a full set of Pinemeadow hybrids from Oregon in the USA. Got hybrids following shoulder replacement. Love them.
Hey Rick, try the eleven hybrids, they're amazing !!!!!!
Eleven hybrids are a must!
I'd love to see a full round with these.
Rick would be too scared to play the best golf he’s played in years with them. 😂
I added a 8 Hybrid to my bag because I couldn't get the loft I needed from my 7 iron....I found out just what you did Rick, it works! It takes time to get used to it but as a 60+ golfer I can now hit a high lofted 150 yarder into a green.
Would actually love a review on some of the more mainstream brand hybrid irons. Like the Cleveland halos or Wilson lauchpads
When I started playing I bought every crazy infomercial golf club I saw.
Some of them were great, some weren't.
But 20 years later I still have and use the "Perfect Club" hybrid. My favorite old weird club
This has to be perfect for seniors and pensioners struggeling with pure iron strikes and consistency
If you don't care for them, find a senior golfer and let them try them out for a while.
.. Rick, that SW hybrid might just be the ticket to fix your chipping.. 😊
the black and blue one look great was going to get a set off them but got a set of i wilson deep red tour but still planing off getting the black and blue WaZaki Hybrid Iron Set as back up at some stage
That set has a proper DJ Khaled vibe
DJ Khaled hits a birdie “Another One”!
Your score would benefit greatly from adding the wedge hybrids to your bag, genuinely.
Rick, do the polls on youtube trust me, nobody is really on Facebook anymore.
Im new to golfing and got a set of Lazrus 2-pw hybrids. Ive been struggling to hit them, but then again i struggled to hit the driver and wedges lol
I installed graphite shafts and
I love them. The back of the clubs have a shaft damping material. I don't care what the clubs look like as long
as I hit them straight, which I do. Great video Rick.
I have a set of bazooka hybrids i borrowed from my father in law. The concept is great. Love the "shank" you attempted. I golf with ping eye 2 BeCu he got me for my retirement gift. Cant put them down.
I have a set from my granfather hybrid 3 through 9 and I agree with you 3 through 6 are great but I still use my old 7,8,9
What a boon for Wizaki golf to have their clubs go right in Rick's bag! Congrats to all!
great vid rick keep up the amazing content
I found the ultimate set of Hybrid irons. Wilson Launchpad irons. 4 iron through approach wedge. You will have to pry them from my dead cold hands. Love the video.
Was that "fur-lined" for the inside of a golf club cover?
Absolutely awsome. I've got myself a 4H which is amazing but 4 5 and 6I I can not use lol but my 4H saves me every time . Keep up the amazing golf buddy love watching your vids
Great review - love watching the “odd” club reviews as it’s nice to see the weird and wonderful over the big main brands!
Good video Rick was thinking of buying my wife and daughter a set to start learning with. Gave me some great info on them
I play a set of Cleveland hybrid irons and they feel more pure than my older Callaway irons. highly recommend trying hybrid irons
Love this!! Is Guy putting these in the bag?
Rick = weird and funny reviews. Love it!
My dad games this set 🤣. Plays pretty good as well…
I am an older golfer and use hybrid clubs a lot to gain distance because of my age. The hybrid set could improve my game,i would like to give a try.
Love this video! Yes please take them out and break 75!! I actually owned a set of hybrids similar to these but they got stolen before I could play them ..booo! Lol, great content Rick!!
Good review keep them coming
1:30 as a content creator this is an opportunity. Bust out of compound, polish, and a high rpm buffer and repair the paint job. Rick Shiels Makes
I got an old set of Spalding Executive XE hybrid clubs all the way down to the pitching wedge. Super heavy clubs but they are kind of fun to hit
These type of videos are some of the best content.
I have 3 and 5 Ben hogan hybrids in my bag
Now I want a 4 and 6 because they perform way better when I’m spent. Still have the respective irons for deep rough.
11:20 to 11:29 has always summed up my view on hybrid clubs..... you NEED the specialist wedges and driver,, but for everything else.... hybrid clubs just make life easier.
This was a fun review. Those are nice headcovers, for sure 😆The red finish reminds me of the old John Daly Grip It and Rip It 540cc driver
i remember while working in a pro shop in the 90s selling a set of macgregor ladies clubs that had 1,3,5,7,9 and 11 woods and 8 iron down obviously this was before rescue and hybrids were around, but they were unbelivably popular .
Good video! 10/10, felt like I was in a Tron movie. Tron: Golden Shiels
I’ve only just started and have a full set of big ezee hybrid irons. Very easy to use
I really enjoy your channel. Keep up the great work
This video made me laugh! 😂 Thanks, Rick.
I played with a 70 year old 5 handicap this summer who had all hybrid irons from PXG I think and he absolutely loved them.
