photography is easier though, you see a difference with a experience camera vs cheap one, headphones its like i just spend $1000 on headphones, does this really sound better then my $400 dollar headphones... hmm...yes...hmm.... no... maybe?

I have the HD650, and they are my favourite music headphones. Smooth, never tiring to listen to, generally a bit "dark" in sound. A close second are my AKG Q701. I had the Beyerdynamics DT990 pro 600 Ohm, too, but I found those not as easy to listen to (did not like the highs), plus after only a few weeks of not misusing them, some cable broke and the right side has no sound anymore. I actually use the HD650 on my computer, too (with an external DAC+headphone amp), but only for music - when I game, I use my pair of Teufel Aureol Real. Cheap (99€) open/over-ear headphones, but pretty decent at that price, and if they get too sweaty/messy eventually, I'll just get new ones. I'd recommend testing those some time, they'd also make pretty good outdoor headphones (although they are of course open and so leak sound and are a bit flashy/make you look like "that guy").

10:32 I now have the HD600s, and I see (feel) what you mean. It reminds me of the soft cord of a Nintendo controller (any gen). Maybe that's what you're picking up as well.
these are my *audiophile* grade first headphones, I got them along with schiit vali 2 and schit modi multifrost -- i was listening to shine on crazy diamond, i have never heard the sounds at the beginning of this song for as far as I can remember - I was introduced to Pink Floyd by dad when I was in 9th grade when I was in India ... damn this is some amazing thing - thanks Z!

I've had these for a few months now, one of my best audio purchases, running them through an O2 DAC but they sound just as well through my $30 Behringer UCA202. sometimes I forget they're on my head.
I'd gladly send you my 650s... if I had another pair to use in the meantime.
Kinda wish I had gone with these instead now that I've explored neutral sound more.

I just bought a pair of these and the Yamaha MT 5s and I’ve got to say, these are just truly amazing comparatively. The Yamaha’s are nice, especially when I don’t want to bother anyone else, but these just have such clarity/precision. I get the feeling if I was using a different AMP it would even sound different, but still. Just AMAZING!!!

I know it's a little late for me to mention this, but you can actually use the 1/4 inch adapter from the HD600 with the Fidelio X2 cable(the black end).

Hello Zeos, I have buy the Aune X1S as you have recommended. I have see some graph about impedance that say that the HD600 can go up to 550ohms. Like you know the Aune X1S goes until 300ohms. Do you think that I can loose any kind off feature (sound quality) using only the Aune X1S with the HD600? Thanks

Have you tried the Headphile (cables or wood earcup) mods? They look intersting. Would be nice to have a closed back version and the deepened open back version of the HD600s.
Question: I have a mod mic which I can attach but it uses a small quite strong neodymium magnet Will this affect the drivers on the headphones if I attach the magnet to the side of the headphones

personally id recommend a tube over solid, a good cheap one is the douk audio p1 on amazon for like 130 CAD, drives my 599s, sph9500s, as well as (regrettably) my beats. yes i got beats. they were 25 bucks bite me
Zeos I was reading about the Hd600 and the pins of the connector aren't the same size so thats why you can't flip them

Bought these cans thanks to this video. (my 1st high-end headphones purchase). Chord question: My schiit Magni does not have XLR output, obviously. Looking at the custom chord makers you listed, is it possible to custom make a BALANCED 1/4" chord. I'm getting some interference from my stock chords. I don't want to spend $160 on a custom chord that is the same as mine but with fancy materials and still unbalanced. As a newb to all of this, your wisdom would be much appreciated. Seems You may like the Nad Viso HP50. It sounds like a closed back HD600. Its a really good closed back headphone for the price. Worth checking out sometime.

HD650s are insane, by far the best sounding headphones i've ever owned. Blows everything else in the $400 price range out of the water imo, even though they've been around for almost a decade
I know you said these were comfortable out of the box, but did you try them with the HM5 pads that you love so much?
Ha! I've had mine for three weeks now and just noticed the stupid wire! When these take a dump, and everything does, eventually, what are my replacement options? Great review, by the way. Matches my experience! Mine are made in Ireland, and I did get the cool box. Hinges! I'm keeping it!
How do the M50s and HD600s compare price-wise in the States? Here in the UK the HD600s are nearly double the price of the M50s depending on where you buy them from, so over here at least we'd never really compare the sound of the two in the same sentence, bit like comparing a Hyundai to a Cadillac limousine.
I used to have HD650s too. They were slightly bassier than the 600s. Both were very nice though.
Just got them today for US$252 = AU$328 free shipping where I live. Super comfy & light. Clamp is just right, Brainwavz has got more only compensated by HM5 pads. Cable is ok.. could have been better befitting it's price point but much better than springy AD700X. Your comment about the audio is spot-on. And yes they are made in Ireland.

these ones or the momentums are better for me - I like electronic and hip hop sometimes listening to metal too and I watch a lot of movies and sometimes I play games.. what do you think its the best choice for me by your opinion?
Momentums are portable, small and you pay for the aesthetics.. At home? HD600, if you don't need closed phones. For on the go? Momentums, HD600 would suck out in in public. The 600s sound much better, but they don't have as much bass. I like both of them, but for different purposes.

I've got a friend who makes his own music. Primarily D&B. Right now he's using a pair of Sennheiser 598's. I wanna buy him a pair of these. But. I know if I do buy him a pair of these, he's gonna need an amp. And, if amp, why not DAC? I was thinking of the Schiit stack, but he also games on the 598's so I was thinking some bass boost would be good as well. Any suggestions?

I’ve seen reviews where it was said that an iPhone couldn’t drive these, but I can get a fairly listenable volume out of my 8s, with the lightning adaptor and no headphone amp.
Same w my 2016 iPhone SE vol. 1. Anything more than 50 percent volume is waaaay too loud.

I have my own question regarding my own personal audio equipment and audio experience.
I am very new to the terminology of the audio world and use of devices such as amps but I was wondering if you could answer my question.
I recently picked up a pair of headphones (ATH-50x) that sound great. After going between using them and some bottom shelf Panasonic In-Ear buds, I realized that the ATH-50x are not able to get to an almost unbearable level of loudness that my Panasonics can. Maybe this is because the Panasonics are in ear and that is just an illusion that they are louder? Or maybe the ATH-50x require more power to be more loud? (I am listening on my smartphone)
At this point, listening on my smartphone, my Audio technicas are not able to get unbearably loud (not saying I want to listen to them at that point, I just think the max volume should be a volume that I am not comfortable with so I can have a full range)
+Ben Bailey Phones usually don't have the most powerful amplifiers. Headphones in general are much harder to drive than IEM's. You can add a portable headphone amplifier to the mix like the sAp5 [amzn.to/1M79GDM].
Saw metal571 comments about 650 and A900X being similar in sound presentation, although the 900X's are closed cans.. which I own and only cost me $130+..am tempted to get the 650 because of your praise.. it's just the price is holding me back.

Just got a pair, running them with the E10K and I know they can do far better with something else. Would you say a Magni 2 Modi 2 stack does them justice? Preferably in the 200-300 US price range, also already ordered a stock HD650 cable as a replacement, per common suggestion.

I just overall prefer the 600 for everything. Only gaming I'd swap to the 700 because the extra sharp highs help.

Thank you so much for doing this. Love the HD600 much and I'm happy with it, save for the slightly confined soundstage. Did you notice how modular these assholes are though? lTry twisting the cups all the way downwards on the pivot, and you can pop them off and disassemble them right down to the drivers. Great for cleaning.
You considered doing in-ears? You can get into a world of obscure Asian budget IEMs that sound wonderful. (start with Havi B3 Pro 1's, maybe?)
Also, consider doing more comparisons to other headphones. (HD600 vs Q701, HD600 vs Takstar HI2050, etc etc) I think it's what the people want the most in terms of different reference points.

The 2000x are a more impressive set but you miss the bass.

I owned both items, but I'm wondering you're opinion on this. Would you rather have the JBL LSR305 or the HD600s? You should really do a review with the new Schiit (Magni 2 & Modi 2) Uber as well.
Mark Roan As a speaker guy the 305's are pretty bad ass. I have other headphones if I need to use them. Someone has to volunteer the V2 stack for me to review it. Or I'd have to buy it and use it in a give-a-way.

It is the lowest tier amp/dac I recommend. So it will but these really do improve with a better amp.
