    That copper mod is the first thing I've been seriously tempted to try with my HD600's, never been convinced by the ethos of permanently damaging them and not being able to go back after. I'll be interested to see what sort of differences this mod makes, but I also have to wonder if something similar could be made to enhance my HD700's as well... willing to bribe with tea and biscuits, of course!

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it probably could be done. We have just about made the R&D costs back for this HD600 kit but it would probably cost more to develop a HD700 kit and there are fewer in circulation so it may be a while before we start working on them. We are working on similar mods for the beyer DT770 and DT990 first

      Indeed, the viability is always the crux, and you'd definitely be better off aiming at the most popular models to begin with . But its a unique looking product, with potential. Heres hoping it takes off

    Hi just installed the copper weight mod and I must say the HD600 are much sharper with brighter highs. I'm now experimenting with the foam inserts sent with the kit. having difficulty making a final choice. Can you confirm that the foams with the holes through the centre generate more bass than the solid foam inserts? Also, I notice that you have sent x2 sets of solid foam inserts. One feels slightly firmer.... will they cut the bass even further? Thanks

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the ones with holes in should give more bass. There should be two different sets of solid ones, the one with the blue green hint to them is denser and will give the least bass. I like the ones they have a w shape cut out the middle

    Hi! What effect does removing only the back foam have with the weight installed? I want to try the copper mod, but want it to be reversable, so I want to keep the foam in there. Thanks.

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, you can keep the foam in there - we supply different foam inserts with the kit to tune it and leaving the original foam in there and fitting the copper weight is fine, it will give more detailed and controlled bass, then if you like it you can commit, remove the foam and try a few of the inserts to find your preffered combo. At the moment we are out of stock and waiting for more to be made, they should be back in a couple of weeks

    • @CustomCans
      @CustomCans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory... Yes but it is unlikely. A lot of open backed headphones have no protection from dust getting in the driver. If you think about how you store your headphones, it is unusual to store them driver up so the dust has to blown in rather than falling in and the mesh makes that harder as I suspect it forms a boundary layer. That said... It may make a fun experiment / video in the future if I get the time

      the mids on these headphones are pushed fatr too much forward. For soundstage to exist this region must be scooped followed by a boost on the treble region. The mods shown here will only enhance treble. If you really want soundstage (even if it is just for the sake of soundstage) I'd recommend the AKG K701/2.

      @CustomCans  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daftbeyer I don't know... the whole reason we included the foam inserts with the copper mass loading kit is that if you fit it on it's own it turns them into bass monsters , the foam inserts bring it back down to a sensible level ;) But yes, the other mods make the treble a bit brighter

    • @davidedibattista2052
      @davidedibattista2052 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@daftbeyer I've modded mine (hd600) with the copper ring mod and actually a big change that is showed on the graphs published on the custom cans website also is the reduction in 3k region that makes the hd600 sound forward (more than with the mass it has to do with the foam) and actually is the biggest change in frequency response. I own the hd600 and the 650, with the mod the hd600 is a kind of a child between the two, basically you get the treble of the 600 (no noticiable changes here) the upper mids of the 650 (linearity in the 2-4k probably is better than both of them) and a bass that has the quantity of the 650 and the punch of the 600 futher improved and it improves a little the resolution also, with solid state amplifiers I think that the 600 modded with the copper ring is better than the 650 and 600 on otl amp probably the bass will be too much for many (that depends by tastes and tubes used we are talking about 1db 1.5db at most with the mod) actually a good compromise that i found is insert a pantyhose between the copper ring and the spider cage it reduces a little the bass and it reduces the 3k peak as well, 'cause the foam reduces the bass but at the same time it brings the 3k "peak'' back . Great job @Jason Rhys-Thomas
