      The company that makes this has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau and 1,450 bad reviews on TrustPilot mostly from people giving them their money and not getting anything for months if ever, and frequently the parts you get are damaged. Not from shipping... they mail out other peoples returns (broke and full of covid germs!)

      I think they are hoping most people won't do the math when they tout the "Payments as low as $10.50, plus shipping!" [while downplaying the $ x 104 = a lot of $ part]
      It is certainly a really cool piece. And if they sell the completed model in one box for a lower price tag I might consider it, but like others have said, it would not be very fiscally responsible of me.

  • @avi8r66
    @avi8r66 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    The 2 yr thing is done to charge a higher price and keep an ongoing residual money stream in to the company. You also get more personally invested with it due to the time involved. If this follows other similar schemes once the subscription crowd has their monthly pieces, after a year maybe, so 3 yrs from now, they then offer the whole thing for sale as one big shipment. A couple years later, to clear the shelves, it starts going on sale. I picked up the De’Agostino Millennium falcon this way, it is normally something like 1500, was on sale for 900. Still crazy pricey but its a huge model of the falcon and can be built to a very high level of detail. Anyway, its great for people who only worry about the monthly payment, and many people do focus on just that number. So it will sell fine probably. But these tactics suck. And calling it a model kit is a bit misleading, though technically true. We hear that phrase and think plastic model, one that needs finishing and can even be customized while building. For example, adding the message board to the equipment rack, or adding lights to the interior, that kind of thing. A model kit like that, of this car, would be terrific.

    She said it’s an exact copy of the one from the film but it isn’t. The front roof lights aren’t the original ones. The original Ecto 1 lights are identical both front and back. The front ones on this model taken from the re-build where they replaced parts that had been stolen on the back lot at universal. If you are gonna charge so much you should get the details perfect.

    The website says there is 141 magazines, which puts the cost at closer to ~$1860.

      It's the shipping that adds up. Many people in the UK have paid for a 1 year su scription for a big discount vs monthly charges. This bulk pay isnt there for the US market but many believe it will be once the kit goes live later this month.

    Everyone is saying that after a couple of years this thing is going to be one to $2000, and the math currently, as I’m writing this, I’ve subscribed to the Ecto-1 with two kits starting out, and only $1.95, and with the price per for kits(mailed all together in one package a month) and two dollars in change I think for the shipping, it’s about $61 and change a month.
    So a lot of people think, one to $2000 over a period of 2 to 3 years and 141 kits, f*ck that…. And on one end, I do get that, but there are Lego sets out there that cost the same price but because they’re built out of smaller pieces, like all the pieces are relatively small in general and can be packaged up in one big box, you probably enough spending one or 2000 on a very popular very expensive Lego set which luckily enough because all the pieces are small and packaged in bags and in one box, you would still spend hours if not weeks or a couple of months building that for fun, but this besides the description, you’d be paying the same amount of money overtime for an expensive Lego set, but because it’s a 1/8 Scale model, and all the pieces are metal, because it supposed to be a model, the pieces for the vehicles are bigger size, do you have to take into account that you’re paying for a model that big, with as much detail and quality as there is to it overtime instead of the coincidence of buying a $2000 Lego set and just be able to bring it home and put it together in a way shorter amount of time, but it’s like an investment towards a very thoroughly detailed model that is made of metal and is a very cool big size.
    But everyone, to each their own on what they think. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    141 magazines, £10 each = £1410 ..over nearly three years..and thats if the magazine is weekly?, and that's if the company doesn't go bankrupt, ..sounds like too much arsing about and waiting

    It takes 140 separate kits to complete the car. They send you four a month. So you are looking at a 3 year project.

    I am currently building this iconic vehicle, but have noticed (as have many others) that eaglemoss have made many mistakes, one which is the light bars on top. They spin far too quickly & are extremely noisy. I for one will not be making any more models from Eaglemoss again, as this is not the first time discrepincies have been found. They advertised this as an accurate build, which it certainly is not as far too many changes have got to be made to make it screen authentic.

    Hate to be one year into the "subscription" and this company goes out of business. If they can't offer the complete model now rather than "eventually" they're hoping interest in the model will pay for itself by only putting a fraction of the investment into the project. How much was the licence?

    three or four hundred and id pre order but waiting two years? you would't get the fun of a kit beacuse you get like two parts at a time and by the time its finished youve lost the excitement maybe if it was 50 a month for six months and you got six sets of parts then your breaking down to afford it, youd get way more takers

    • @Sharklops
      @Sharklops 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly.. and they definitely aren't doing themselves any favors by showing off that blister pack with just the hood and a bumper piece or whatever in it. Just made me think how pissed I'd be getting that for $11 bucks, waiting a week to do it all over again, and repeating that process for a couple of years. And most weekly packages aren't going to contain anything near as exciting as the hood, but instead just unremarkable little chassis pieces and a few screws or the like. I just don't see how anyone could get any joy whatsoever from this kind of arrangement.

  • @BBROPHOTO

    Trust Postnord with handling over 25 parcels?
    Just no, HELL NO!
    I had a time at the hospital this Thursday at 9.45AM. Apparently they sent the summoning letter via mail, the only way I knew about this is that I asked at the reception desk a month ago when I went to see the nurse about removing some stitches. And the only meeting that were booked for me was at the orthopaedic department. Later they wanted to X-ray my knees so they wanted me to be there one hour earlier. That summoning letter got lost as well. I started it all by sending a private referral where I explicitly said that don't use Postnord or if they have to, send email/SMS that they have posted letters. When I talked with the doctor he mentioned that he noticed my plea, but didn't do anything about it...

    One per week is not too bad but for 2 years that's a no. Make it 750$ and release the complete kit all at once and I would buy it. I can't wait 2 years. I would be way too scared that they stop making them 3/4 of the way through. She said eventually there will be all issues but I wonder how much that will cost. Ill check it out in 2 years I guess. I checked the subscription page out of curiosity. USA only of course. They don't ship to other countries.
