Suffering is such an important discussion to have - for as long as I can remember, non believers use this Catholic belief to discredit us . I have not yet been catechised and was not raised in the faith and if there is one thing the enemy uses against us and for........ their own agenda , it is our willingness to suffer. Blessings and appreciation from Sydney Australia .
Thank you so much dear Brothers. Our Lady also told the visionaries of Medjugorje (where I have had 2 pilgrimages) regarding fasting - "You will not regret it". She gave 5 little stones : Fasting (Wed and Friday, bread and water), Scripture, frequent Reconciliation, daily Rosary, frequent Eucharist. Also Brothers, our fasting can be used by Our Lady to carry out healings, conversions and other miracles for mankind. So it is a selfless act done in obedience and as you point out in love. Shalom and blessings also from Sydney Australia
I like the idea of suffering as an eighth sacrament. In offering our sufferings for love of Christ, to share in and console Him in His suffering and.in reparation for our sins, the sins of our family and the Church and the world...we are receiving His Grace by this act of redemptive suffering. It is, it seems, a "sacrament"! 🙏❤🕊✝️⛪
Father Michael Salve Maria! Thank you We should embrace our sufferings that God sends us. Fasting is just giving things up, but uniting ourselves with the Passion and sufferings of Jesus. Thank you Father for opening our eyes. Salve Maria!
Salve Maria! As in Mark 8:35, "For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it." The key words are *for my sake*. When we accept the sufferings as way to the everlasting life, it becomes lighter. Thankyou Father and brothers, for the inspiring podcast.
Thank you Father Michael for enlightening me further in uniting our sufferings to the cross and the importance of fasting. God Bless you and the Heralds of the Gospel. May God have Mercy on my soul. Salve Maria ❤
Salve Maria 🙏 The topic of suffering as sacrifice, which later brings joy, is complex to understand, but through this podcast, I am able to understand the spiritual aspects. We join Jesus in his spiritual journey and will eventually experience union and oneness with Him in the joyful resurrection and eternal life.
Thank you Fr Michael+brothers for a fruitful and enlightening discussion. It adds value to the reasons for fasting and how to realign our understanding and how to approach fasting . God Bless 🙏
I was suffering so bad when I would wake up I could not use my arms at all nor barely walk and would scream from pain and it was so bad I cursed. I started asking for Gods grace to accept my suffering & it amazingly became joyful. Thank you for this great powerful reminder. May I remember to ask for God" grace when I awake. Thank you Jesus for your grace love mercy word
Thank you Father and Brothers for your encouragements and this discussion. It has been most helpful to me. I have a tough time with fasting. Salve Maria. 🙏🙏🙏
I started smoking when i was in college.Im in my senior now,so i smoked 40yrs of my life and become addictive to it(min.30 sticks per day).one day , i realized i wasted to much time from unnecessary thing, became prayerful, then in 2020,Lent is coming,i wanted to do something for my family.I promised God,i will not touch even a stick of cigarette for 40 days.God send me an Angel to hold me not to be tempted.Fasting was over then i asked myself if i want to do it again ...Gosh! I survived in 40 days and suffered for 40 yrs why do i have to go back again.God loves me and Mama Mary alot, coz they prepare me before the Pandemic, what if i never stop?cigarettes prices shoot up like Gold during that time h😂😂 I you have strong Faith to God ,you will survive!
God gave me the grace to bear any suffering that comes to me. Sufferings make us come closer to Our God. Fasting on the other hand helps us to understand what some poor people are going through. Also fasting helps people to limit their intake from what will harm their health.
Father Michael, Salve Maria Looking forward to hearing your toughts on Fasting and the Secret. Is fasting just about giving up certain things or not using our devices all the time and giving our time to the Passion of Jesus and what He endured for us?🤔 Looking forward to this discussion. 😇 Thank you, Salve Maria!
Father Michael, let's discuss on this topic again and that time let us duc en altum on the theological meaning and deepen our understanding and participation on fasting. I'm Judith, a consecrated this November. Salve 🙏🌸
Fasting is a joy ❤ i dont understand why you say it's suffering. Only at first maybe. I dont remember but i always look forward to the 1 full meal. 😂 Going to 3 years now and its a gift to God for the love of God. Do it once a week.
Hello. It is beautiful that you find fasting to be a joy; however, for many people, it is very difficult. Let us pray for each other, and may God bless you.
@@HeraldsoftheGospel_official I'm sorry 😔 didn't mean to belittle suffering for many. It's the little crosses we bear for the love of God. Yes, always pray for each other especially the conversion of sinners. All of us are sinners and we are nothing without God. I Love you Jesus 💓😙
Please help me understand the last part of the podcast were father talks about 30 years of fasting and penance in the desert vs. 6 months. I specifically didn't understand that part were father said that 6 months of penance was by the will of God. Please break this down for me. Thank you and God bless you.
Great to hear that you actually picked up that part. It could be the most important part of the podcast. What we meant to say is that, in our days, for most people, God does not want extreme corporal mortification like in the past, that is why the Church has mitigated the days of Fasting. But everything suggests that we are in an age where God wants his mother Mary to shine. Dependance on her, is more imortant that all those sacrifices. By being maximalists in our devotion and dependance on the Blessed Virgin, we can gain much more merits, make much more progress in holiness and obtain many more graces, than if we fasted in the desert. Because, God, at this moment doesn't want that from us (for most of us at least). Hope that helps. May Our Lady keep you under her mantle.
Thank you so much for for the response. It does help me understand better. I have just recently started following these podcasts. Thank you so much for this blessed initiative. Really helps us. I have a lot more questions and would like to get in touch with you over an email. I hope that's OK brother.
Well, there is a lot of new research showing the immense benefits of Fasting, 24hs, 48hs 72hs being optimal for it's anti-inflamatory effects. This new research proves the wisdom of the Church. I don't really know if stomach ulcers and GERD etc. are caused by fasting itself, though it might surely be related to overeating certain foods.
Stomach ulcers are caused by a certain type of bacteria. GERD is caused by a lack of stomach acid. Hemorrhoids are caused by eating spicy foods and pushing too much.If you have a healthy gut, fasting won't be a problem.
Pain also reminds us that we are in a valey of tears, and it is sign that we are still alive (ironically). And while we are alive we must remember God, death, and Original Sin.

PS We can do some penance or fasting on Wed and Fridays even if we do not do the full bread and water fast. (Give up coffee, a meal or two etc)

But if you fasting you can get stomach ulcer because of not eating in right time 3 times a day and many illnesses in stomach like gerd and hemoroids

PAIN is a warning signal that something is wrong. It's our friend. This seems to be carried over to other kinds of suffering.
Pain also reminds us that we are in a valey of tears, and it is sign that we are still alive (ironically). And while we are alive we must remember God, death, and Original Sin.
I thought that the suffering is the AIM of fasting!
Well it could be... but what is Suffering all about if not Love for God?
I'm lost in the middle of this explanation.
Try to fast on talking.
