    Hey man just stumbled onto your site. Good presentation good review. Keep it up.
    I’m not, as of yet, a Solomon guy I’ve always had good luck with Merrel MOABs but they are the mids. The taller boots will give you better anckle support depending on the terrain you are moving through and the weight of your kit.
    Any way keep doing what you’re doing 👍
    Cheers from the States 🇺🇸🇬🇧

      Thanks for your comment Mark, glad you like the videos. I'm not the best presenter but I'm working on it.
      I've been using salomon boots for years and my feet have always been really comfortable in them. I've tried a few other brands over the years but for me, I find the Salomon the most comfortable.
      Thanks again and best wishes.

    “Boots that will last” - then don’t buy Salomon. I have quite a few Salomon models, from running shoes, to trail runners, spike runners (I live in Scandinavia), winter boots, X Ultra and Quest 4D. I buy them because they always have the same fit, and they just work from day one. Plus you often get them at a discount if you’re not looking for a very specific model and colour. HOWEVER, both the sole and overall build quallity are not made to last. Waterproofing will fail quite fast, too. I still continue to buy them, but have no illusions that they’re a one-two year purchase. For boots I reallly care about and will last many years, I go for leather boots like Lowa, Meindl, Hamwag, which of course cost more than Salomons.

    Son you need a camera person who can zoom in on the shoe parts you’re describing so we get a better idea. 😊

    The Quest 4 are not durable at all. After less than two years of really moderate use they separated from the front rand making them not waterproof at all anymore. In fact there was a hike I did not even a year into their use where I already felt some water coming in.
    I've seen some other people mentioning the same issue of losing waterproofness so fast.

      Yup. I just returned mine to REI after 11 months. Toe cap started delaminating. I loved them otherwise.

      I just bought the quest 4's after my old Salomon's started to deteriorate about11 years of use. Only ever used for hiking.
      I do hope the Quest 4's last half as long, but as before will only be used for hiking.

    I've been watching lots of boot reviews because my Trespass Finley boots let the water in after only 12 months of light use! And they are supposed to be waterproof! Thanks for the advice, although I'm still none the wiser now after reading all the comments about Solomon boots. I might just end up buying some Hi-tec as they seem to be good value?

    • @mountainadventurereviews
      @mountainadventurereviews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My best advice is go try some on at a shop with plenty of choice, you may find that Hi-Tec don't suit your feet, you may find they do... who cares that they are not a premium brand, I didn't when I was wearing a pair of Peter Storm boots that were only £30, I just found that Salomon boots fitted my feet a lot better with the mileage increasing with each hike I was doing... Thanks for your comment and I hope you get some good hikes out your new boots.

    hey! really liked your review :) i was a x ultra guy for a very long time. if i see right yours are the x ultra 3? great boot indeed. after quite some time mine gave up on me and i got me the x ultra 4. any experience with them? i am very disappointed by them. compared to the 3 they feel like a ballerina, and not in a good way. switched to salewa for now. but i have been a salomon guy for more than 2 decades and partially still i am :D

    • @mountainadventurereviews
      @mountainadventurereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, X ultra 3. Not even looked at the 4's yet as these ones are absolutely fine! After hearing yours didn't live up to expectations, I won't be getting them after these give up. Thanks for the heads up. The Quest 4D are a great boot too, stiff sole, not as flexible as the X Ultras. Great for winter!

    Great vid! How does the nikwax waterproofer compare to other products such as silicone based waterproofers?

    • @mountainadventurereviews
      @mountainadventurereviews  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry buddy, I missed this comment. I've not really used silicone based waterproofer, I'm thinking of the likes of fabsil etc. I have been told that the likes of fabsil creates a non breathable waterproof barrier so not good for gor-tex gear. I always use a product that helps with the breathability of boots and waterproof clothing.
      Hope this helps.

    I have both of these. Different boots for different needs. But a quick question if you don't mind. You mentioned the Nikwax fabric and leather waterproof spray for the Ultra's. Does it deliver for you? I've found the Quests to be really strong with waterproofing. No issues in the snow or wet for me. But the X Ultra's might as well be non-GTX. Blows my mind how ineffective it is. Kind of pisses me off a little too. I've paid for it. Just wanted to see if that was a solid fix for you. Thanks dude. Good job with this.

    • @mountainadventurereviews
      @mountainadventurereviews  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment, I tend to use the X Ultras for more scrambling hikes, striding, swirral or sharp edge etc. As for the waterproofing, I've always cleaned with the nikwax cleaner with a stiff brush, getting all the dirt off and rinsing off, whilst the boot is still damp give them a spray with the nikwax leather and fabric waterproofer, leave them for half an hour to soak in and give them a second coat. Always left to dry naturally. Never had mine leak using this process. Hope this helps.

      @teejay3272 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mountainadventurereviews Appreciate it bro. I'm going to pick up the spray now. I've worn GTX shoes/boots for years and this is the first time I've had a real issue. Maybe they breakdown before the waterproofing is sacrificed. I'm actually stoked how well the Ultras are holding up. Didn't expect a ton of durability but they're hanging in there so it makes sense to apply the spray. Thanks again.

    How long do the quests stay waterproof? I've heard people say they degrade.

    • @mountainadventurereviews
      @mountainadventurereviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think with any item that's exposed to elements, maintenance is key. Whether that be boots or waterproof clothing, they will eventually lose the waterproofness over time. I have always cleaned and re-proofed my boots periodically to keep them in tip top condition so I've never had a pair fail or degrade... I've only ever changed boots because the sole has worn out! Hope that helps and thanks for your comment 👍

    yo, what would you recommend between quick lace system and regular lace.?

    • @mountainadventurereviews
      @mountainadventurereviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always used regular laces so can't compare, the Salomon Quest 4d have a lace lock system for the base of ankle/start of leg so the laces stay nice and tight throughout the hike.
