  • I loved absolutely everything about these boots, EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE MAJOR FLAW! After going through two replacements, I've decided to go with another boot - KEEN CIRCADIA WATERPROOF BOOTS. Stay tuned, testing it at the moment.... and absolutely loving them.

    Returned mine under warranty after only two easy walks in the woods - less then 15km on them. Two of the lace-guides broke loose and got lost - clearly a factory fault. Now back on my trusty old army issue Bata M90's.

      Yes this stinks of outsourcing probably to an Asian company without any quality control. Your video has probably severely damaged the hitherto good reputation of Salomon and let’s hope they learn their lesson

    I learned all about the wonderful Contra-slip on my Maroon hike of doom. I was slipping and sliding all over the place like i was on skates!! Really affected my rock hopping confidence and ended my 10 year use of Salomons. Deadly in the wet, and just generally not as well made as they used to be! I'll be talking more about them in my upcoming hiking boot video. I use La Sportivas now and they're fantastic!

    • @offtrackxplorer
      @offtrackxplorer  ปีที่แล้ว

      ContraSlip is exactly the right term! I remember your video talking about your experience with that... I honestly didn't want to believe it but I've been converted now. I've got the Keen Circadia's at the moment and I'll be reviewing those soon, but they are beating the Salomon's hand's down now easily. Look forward to seeing your boot video. Jacob uses the TX4's and he's loving those too!

    I bought a pair of Salomon trail runners years ago. They were good in the dry but those things were so dangerous on wet surfaces, no grip at all, even on rough rock. I was so annoyed that I swore I'd never buy another Salomon product again.

    Salomon is yet another outdoor brand that has gone down the pan. As soon as any brand starts to market towards a wider more general customer the quality downs steeply. I loved my quest 3d 100s miles hiking and for 3 years nearly 10 miles a day walking in work and still going. I have shopped for salomon again but you can tell the stitching is now poor and the thread used is weaker.

    I've just got rid of my previous hiking shoes - Hoka Speedgoats - they are a trail running shoe really, so not designed for the tough stuff, but I do stick to trails normally. They lasted 6 months of roughly 20kms a week use, before the outsoles were ground down to nothing. I think the hiking trails around Brisbane are quite tough on outsoles, very stony? So now I've gone back to big heavy Merrell Moab 3, which do the job, but I find them very slippy in gravel. I slipped onto my arse already in them, only a couple of weeks old.

    • @offtrackxplorer
      @offtrackxplorer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those Hokas do look pretty good for a trailrunning shoe. I'm an advocate for the mid-cut boots because of ankle support which I absolutely need on my offtrack stuff. I've rolled my ankles a few too many times, and the last roll took me 4 months to heal from. I've never rolled my ankles in mid-cuts, and I've learned to trailrun in them provided I have good insoles. It's obviously preference stuff, but it works for me.

  • @FireRevontulet
    @FireRevontulet 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I feel like some key information is missing here:
    ok, you used these boots for 11 months, but how many km/miles did you put into them?
    because there is a huge difference in hiking 1 time a month and 10 times a month.
    I'm just very interested in knowing what actual distance these boots went before breaking, and also if any kind of regular maintenance was performed.
    And about this sole slipping on wet rock, yes and no, the sole tread is way more suited for wet loose ground, mud and the likes, on wet rocks it performs ok in my opinion, nothing special but I never felt like skating in them.
    For context, I've own Salomon Quest 4 GTX boots for 4 years (got a second pair this year after totally destroying the first after 1600 km of use). I also work as a clerk selling mountain gear and footwear

    The Element is an overcheapened version with all the horrendous features of the Quest (deadly slippery sole, cordura upper sweatfountain) but zero ankle support, the only big thing at Quest. Avoid, just as ALL Salamon. Buy from established makers (Bavaria, Northern Italy). Its oversoftened sole makes contact with ground problematic - not stiff enough where it should be for solid grip. Awful.

    • @nikola0627
      @nikola0627 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What brands you think of? Dolomite for North Italy? I have one bought in outlet store for only 85chf and its my first hiking boots :D. And they are slippy on wet stones sometimes and extremely slippy on wet wood. They are not really breathable and I am not sure if they are waterproof at all maybr water repelent. But they are comfortable, nice looking, not heavy, I can even run in them and ofc you sont feel rocky terrain its very comfortable for bad terrain. Dolomite Crodarossa Hi GTX is name of model in black colour. Amazong look and good comfort but not good GTX and sometimes slippy but usually very very good in dry conditions on all terrains.

    • @jozsaedmond4986
      @jozsaedmond4986 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nikola0627 Hello - sadly, that is exactly where most hiking foot gear fails, on wet surface. All have good to excellent traction on dry (except my Salomon XA Pro 3D, which is plain disastous on ALL smooth surface). Many Vibram soles are useless, most XS Trek, Mont etc. rubber compound are terrible. Megagrip of Vibram is fine, so are the softest soles of other makers (Adidas- Continental, La Sportiva white or black etc.) Formerly the Fuora sole of Vibram was great (found on Hanwag Alaska GTX and some Italian makes), now I hear problems with that recently.... The solution: try it on wet tiles! You will be shocked! - my Lowa Ranger and Camino have excellent traction (probably Megagrip rubber), but Lowa boots are overpriced overall. If Vibram, go for Megagrip, which may wear faster, but you will have surefootedness, which is paramount in outdoors.
