I watched everything to the end. Your settings are not suitable for LG C1, for example the PC version. Everything remains very dark even with ray tracing enabled. I turned it up with Mid lum 45 and HDR Brightness at 3.0. After all this it’s still dark, but with a flashlight it’s ok. If you raise it further, there are construction lights in bright areas.
Your videos are very niche but so extremely important for those that fall into that niche. HDR is so important, I wish more people had displays that have good HDR so that it can finally become a key talking point when it comes to analysis.
Yeah I don't often have trouble but I always come straight to this channel if I do. Honestly saves me hours and I can make myself ill trying to get it right myself.
Your settings definitely look better for me. The opening bathroom scene looked strangely washed out when I started. Your settings made that better plus as I got a little deeper into the game, being inside buildings looks really good. Things are dark enough to be spooky and I can still see. I knew when I saw all of their HDR sliders I would probably be stuck playing with them. Your video saved me a lot of time. Thanks!

As of the latest patch on PS5 the HDR settings seem to have changed. Default now sets the peak brightness to 500 nits and the mid-point has changed to 50. I now have to leave HDR brightness at the default of 1.20 otherwise picture is completely washed out with the recommended settings.
Same! I actually left the hdr settings at default and this provides the best picture for me on my G4. His recommended settings crushes the blacks way too much
Thank you for your settings! I compared your settings with mine and yours delivered a better picture, but I kept my increased HDR brightness of 3.20. I made my monitor darker in general so I had to increase it a little bit Im playing on PC with the 34" Alienware DWF QOLED :) edit: at certain locations the game was still too dark for me but once I found the flashlight it all was fine

Tyvm! Found these settings very useful on my new LG 34 ultra wide OLED monitor Edit: after going back outside I’ve noticed with HDR on it blows out the brights to an unnaturally high level, sadly. On a 34gs95qe so I ended up turning HDR off and everything it much more uniform now. Not sure if this is just relegated to the PC OLED monitors or not. Ok. More progress. For me HDR brightness needed to be brought down to 2.0-2.1. Help correct some of the blown out brights.

Thanks. Been waiting for this. Very hard to eye the settings myself without a a calibration tool. I lowered mids to 10 and min to zero as I thought min was black level and didn’t understand why it was labeled as negative and mids at 15 looked washed out with min that high and hdr brightness settled at 270. It looked better then factory but this is much better. I Will absolutely use your settings

That HDR menu right there is why HDR never pick up steam with the mainstream users. Sony and Microsoft should enforce the use of console HDR settings so users set them up once and play.
yeah there's no point in having that system level calibration if hardly any games use it. but i've noticed games that do use it tend to have much better hdr results. i agree i think it should be mandatory for developers to support it
Yeah, the system settings are much more user-friendly. Hate game settings that have random screenshots instead of calibration screens cos how do I know what to fine-tune it to be accurate?
In my case - good recommendation overall. Used your settings with 1050 peak brightness on my Neo g7. Helped alot with blooming while not over brightening dark details and maintaining the impact of most highlights. Thanks for your video.
For the max luminance slider, if a person doesn't know their tvs proper nit value the best way to set it is turn it all the way down then slowly increase it until you can tell going higher is not making it any brighter.

HDR UI jetzt auf „350“ statt „300“. HDR Helligkeit jetzt „1.2“ statt „1.5“. Habe den LG G4 und es sieht mit den Standard Settings nun deutlich besser aus. Nur die Max HDR-Luminanz habe ich auf 1500 (stand die nicht auf 1000? Nun 500) gestellt, bei aktivem HGiG.
I think hdr can make a game stand out in other ways than just specular highlights. Don’t get me wrong that’s a big part of it but hdr done right blacks should be darker colors more vivid overall just a more lifelike image. I recently got the ps5 pro and I messed with the hdr settings for about an hour trying to get those raised blacks eliminated. My settings through trial and error were almost identical to urs. Playing on a 77” lg c4 btw and I think the game looks very nice using those settings. I have my peak brightness on 1500 though and I know the c4 probably doesn’t quite hit that number but it’s pretty close and it’s been a solid upgrade over the c1 I replaced. So I just forced HDR into Dragon Quest XI S on PC, I believe all Unreal Engine 4.14 and above this should work (maybe older versions ymmv), running on a LG C2, suggest turning Windows HDR on so it doesn't turn off/on when coming in and out of the game. In my opinion, without any adjustments, it's a great HDR experience. Engine.ini tweak [SystemSettings] r.AllowHDR=1 r.HDR.EnableHDROutput=1 r.HDR.Display.OutputDevice=5 r.HDR.Display.ColorGamut=2 r.HDR.UI.CompositeMode=1 r.HDR.UI.Level=1.1

(this is important or everythink black seems grey) I started to notice that with your settings I dont reach a 0 black floor later into the game after you are in the second building. Everyone who experiences the same try it with these settings -> you can even see more shadow details without crushing anything. At least on my CX.
The brightness table for s90d has an incorrect value. In the calibration menu the pattern disappears at 975 nits (15 clicks) and the TV itself has a maximum of 1040 nits.
LG G3 & PC version of SH2. I used all your recommended settings, only thing I changed was 2000 peak brightness but like you said it doesn't make that much of a difference. I'm also using dynamic tone mapping, not HGIG. Looks amazing! Thanks for saving me the headache :)
Mich verwirrt die Tabelle bei 8:55 etwas. Man sollte doch auch wenn DTM genutzt wird die maximale Helligkeit auf (zb beim g4) 1500 nits stellen. Oder gibt es dazu neue Erkenntnisse? Momentan handhabe ich es so (zb bei RE4) auf HGiG umstellen zum Kalibrieren und dann DTM ein.
Could you add the a80j to that list? I think it’s a small bit less bright than a a90j but I never know what to set the max nits to, I’ve been using 800 nits with gradation preferred this whole time so not sure if it’s right
Thanks for the settings, I have LG oled G4 83inch, the only thing I may change or adjust is HDR brightness, most probably I bit brighter if required, I'm still in a house, so it depends on how it looks on the outside street, game is looks amazing with UE5, sadly my 3090 can't handle RT, but I am waiting for the 5090, many thanks for your HDR content very helpful in games, especially on oled tvs.
I'm playing on a LG C2 48 inch. I keep going from HGiG to the On setting for the image processing. Also from Limited to full on the video setting. Can't seem to get a good balance of dark and bright images.

One question please: I'm playing SH2 remake on a newer Samsung 4k TV. When formulating your recommended HDR settings, do you factor in the use of a tv's "game mode" setting? For example: My Samsung tv has a "game mode" setting that is supposed to help execute the best HDR settings for my PS5. I believe that many other tv manufacturers also have a "game mode" picture option. Do you consider any "game mode" picture options when creating your recommended picture settings? If the answer is no, what baseline picture settings would you recommend for tvs BEFORE going in & adjusting the HDR sliders in SH2? Thanks!
I’m leaving HDR to the default settings in Silent Hill 2. I use my LG G2 with DTM on and have both my TV and PS5 set to Limited RGB range 16-235, I noticed the colours pop a lot more and deep blacks stay black. Full RGB range washes out and raises black levels in naturally dark games using UE5 like Silent Hill 2, Until Dawn Remake, Alan Wake 2 and Layers of Fear. I also tried Horizon Forbidden West with Limited RGB range and the colours pop a lot more and the shadows from grass and trees a lot more deep black and rich. I would show pictures as proof but TH-cam doesn’t have that option.
@@mrtron7837 The settings you are using wrong, you are cutting off the highlights in the image. You should use HGIG, and set the black level to full RGB on the screen and consoles. Do not use DTM on
@@ronyomar100 The problem with HGIG is that it assumes that developers have calibrated HDR settings by these standards, which most have not. Rode this horse with RE4 and actually found dynamic settings on my OLED did the job better than HGIG. Not much point in a universal standard if no one is subscribing to it.
I have a lg g3 tv on hgig and so it already makes the game very dark and usually I need to increase the brightness of any game but it gives such great visuals. Bubrightso many brightness settings like this game offers it really makes it difficult for someone like me to get the brightness right. So I appreciate this video
Is it normal that even on your settings every building has very dark places where you can’t see anything inside those dark areas? I stumble upon tables and objects simply because they are not visible.
Wow. This is really making the game look so beautiful on my monitor. The blacks are really black and when a flashlight comes on BOOM!world comes into view
Edit: Turning HDR Brightness to 5.00 fixed this. These settings were fine for me until I got to the otherworld in Brookhaven. Ever since then, blacks are severely crushed and I can't figure out what settings to adjust to. I even had to turn off HGIG and go with DTM On. I'm using an LG C3.
Coming back to these Nov 19th on a CX, they look pretty good. Can adjust mid level to taste. What’s a shame is the PS5 Pro issue and patches. I waited on this and COD but both patches didn’t come out so great. Seems like it’s still early days, and base PS5 is still preferred. Seems like an incoming patch from Blooper on both systems soon.
noticed on the newest patch hdr default settings have changed. not sure why this was changed without actually sorting the blackfloor issues. if you reset the values you should now get 500 peak brightness, 50 mid luminance, can't remember min luminance, and 1.2 hdr brightness. but the settings still scale in the same way as they did before. no way to get a perfect balance between black floor without losing detail
Quick Comment: Excellent video, the settings look pretty nice but the further you get on the game, the blacks are deeper and deeper. I had to crank up the brightness as I was having a bit of a headache trying to force myself looking into the darkness (Like my iris trying to gather more light). In the beginning it looks great, but once you reach the Silent Hill Historical Society it was pretty hard to see on my s95b.

I also agree that this game isn't designed to showcase bright highlights in HDR. It just needed a good black level balance

It’s the art direction, muted and very moody that determines the HDR here but this has to be one of the most comprehensive HDR controls in a game.
Great settings. Only thing I changed was setting the min luminance to 0.0, and adjusting it manually with reshade.

Thanks for the settings, I have LG oled G4 83inch, the only thing I may change or adjust is HDR brightness, most probably I bit brighter if required, I'm still in a house, so it depends on how it looks on the outside street, game is looks amazing with UE5, sadly my 3090 can't handle RT, but I am waiting for the 5090, many thanks for your HDR content very helpful in games, especially on oled tvs.

I'm playing on a LG C2 48 inch. I keep going from HGiG to the On setting for the image processing. Also from Limited to full on the video setting. Can't seem to get a good balance of dark and bright images.

One question please: I'm playing SH2 remake on a newer Samsung 4k TV. When formulating your recommended HDR settings, do you factor in the use of a tv's "game mode" setting? For example: My Samsung tv has a "game mode" setting that is supposed to help execute the best HDR settings for my PS5. I believe that many other tv manufacturers also have a "game mode" picture option. Do you consider any "game mode" picture options when creating your recommended picture settings? If the answer is no, what baseline picture settings would you recommend for tvs BEFORE going in & adjusting the HDR sliders in SH2? Thanks!

Such a shame, every new game has so much problems with HDR.
I’m leaving HDR to the default settings in Silent Hill 2. I use my LG G2 with DTM on and have both my TV and PS5 set to Limited RGB range 16-235, I noticed the colours pop a lot more and deep blacks stay black. Full RGB range washes out and raises black levels in naturally dark games using UE5 like Silent Hill 2, Until Dawn Remake, Alan Wake 2 and Layers of Fear. I also tried Horizon Forbidden West with Limited RGB range and the colours pop a lot more and the shadows from grass and trees a lot more deep black and rich. I would show pictures as proof but TH-cam doesn’t have that option.

The settings you are using wrong, you are cutting off the highlights in the image. You should use HGIG, and set the black level to full RGB on the screen and consoles. Do not use DTM on
@@ronyomar100 The problem with HGIG is that it assumes that developers have calibrated HDR settings by these standards, which most have not. Rode this horse with RE4 and actually found dynamic settings on my OLED did the job better than HGIG. Not much point in a universal standard if no one is subscribing to it.

I have a lg g3 tv on hgig and so it already makes the game very dark and usually I need to increase the brightness of any game but it gives such great visuals. Bubrightso many brightness settings like this game offers it really makes it difficult for someone like me to get the brightness right. So I appreciate this video
Is it normal that even on your settings every building has very dark places where you can’t see anything inside those dark areas? I stumble upon tables and objects simply because they are not visible.
Wow. This is really making the game look so beautiful on my monitor. The blacks are really black and when a flashlight comes on BOOM!world comes into view
Edit: Turning HDR Brightness to 5.00 fixed this. These settings were fine for me until I got to the otherworld in Brookhaven. Ever since then, blacks are severely crushed and I can't figure out what settings to adjust to. I even had to turn off HGIG and go with DTM On. I'm using an LG C3.

Coming back to these Nov 19th on a CX, they look pretty good. Can adjust mid level to taste. What’s a shame is the PS5 Pro issue and patches. I waited on this and COD but both patches didn’t come out so great. Seems like it’s still early days, and base PS5 is still preferred. Seems like an incoming patch from Blooper on both systems soon.

noticed on the newest patch hdr default settings have changed. not sure why this was changed without actually sorting the blackfloor issues. if you reset the values you should now get 500 peak brightness, 50 mid luminance, can't remember min luminance, and 1.2 hdr brightness. but the settings still scale in the same way as they did before. no way to get a perfect balance between black floor without losing detail

Excellent video, the settings look pretty nice but the further you get on the game, the blacks are deeper and deeper. I had to crank up the brightness as I was having a bit of a headache trying to force myself looking into the darkness (Like my iris trying to gather more light). In the beginning it looks great, but once you reach the Silent Hill Historical Society it was pretty hard to see on my s95b.
