If you are a fan, that would absolutely be a collector's edition to drool over (though I agree that the lack of an artbook is a bit of a miss with such nice art)! Sword and Fairy is high fantasy mythology, and is not historical. The developer has another long running series names Xuan Yuan Sword, that's historical but blended with fantasy and Chinese mythology. I consider it a better overall gaming experience than Sword and Fairy, and recommend that more.
When YT only showed the top half of your post I was going ask ask you "why hate plushies?" But then once I clicked the comments it showed your entire comment 😅 Yeah I wanted the limited edition of bubble bobble every bubble edition which comes with the 2 little dragon guys lol but that version sold out so I just figure I'd go with the regular. They do sell them separately though. 😁 I hope more games special collectors editions start doing more plushies and or hand puppet plushies that serve as both. We dont see many of them but think like the old 80s my pet monster line. They were plushs and hand puppets which is so cool.
Yeah the more Plushies the better! The Shinigami that came with Master Detective Rain Code recently won me over too! 😂 Oh my gosh the Bubble Bobble dragon plushies are amazing haha!

Wow, that steelbook is on another level. Including a play-mat is a pretty good idea, a lot better than other collector edition items and it looks great too. Very vibrant colors.
Honestly, I really love including the card game and playmat instead of something like an artbook! It really makes collector editions feel special when they get something that's very unique and tied into the game itself imo. I feel like a lot of CEs have become pretty standardized nowadays, so many just seem like artbook + steelbook + cd/art print, which is fine, but makes it feel much more like a template rather than a celebration of the title. Especially for really big games like TotK that are inevitably going to have separate artbooks and such anyway, I think it's more fun to throw in something eccentric for the collectors. But at the same time, I do get the reasoning. Cheaper to produce and it gives the CE more broad appeal (which is kinda weird to think about since you'd think CE's inherently aren't supposed to have broad appeal... but still). Artbooks are easy to make and anyone can appreciate them whereas more specific items might be more appreciated among the core audience, but less appealing to the fringes. And the core audience will probably buy the CE regardless so 🤷 The Cuphead CE is maybe one of the best examples of this, I think the fact they included an actual full size marionette puppet is so cool and so unique to the aesthetic of that game, but I cannot imagine it sold better than if they had just made it cheaper with an artbook instead. It's also been great to have watched your channel grow to the point of getting a lot of sponsored goodies now, very jealous! Keep up the good work 👍
Agreed I think it was really smart to include the card game & play/desk mat! I haven't looked into whether or not there are artbooks of these games elsewhere, but may be something for me too look into to get my artbook fix :)

For a game that clearly put a lot of effort into aesthetics I'm shocked and disappointed the Collector's edition doesn't have an artbook. I never played any Sword and Fairy game before, but I'm intrigued. For me the 3 must-haves for a "collector's" edition are: steelbook, artbook, magnets--these are the things i look for... magnets are rare these days i dunno why.
For a brief moment, I mistook the deck card for a soap box. This game has been on my radar for a while. The Chinese mythology in it looks quite amazing and is very different from what I'm used to seeing in the games I play. That being said, right now my plate is more than full. I was playing TotK when my switch battery ran out, and I decided to try DOS2 (since everyone is talking about Baldur's Gate 3 and DOS2 is the same type of game by the same developer and has been on my TBP for years), and oh boy! What a fun game! It has me hooked to the point where I don't want to play TotK again till I finish DOS2. I adore puzzles, and in this game, every fight and action is a puzzle with multiple solutions. Sorry for the detour; I enjoyed your unboxing as usual. In terms of gaming collectibles, I have a soft spot for steel cases, and this one appears to be rather nice.
I was actually very surprised how much I enjoyed this game. The audio however is just not synced right. I mean the impact from your swords or magic is so much louder than anything else going on during the fight it's just I think so loud. Sometimes your party's clothes can sound like they're being blown around in a tornado when you're running around inside buildings or towns too.
Just picked this up myself but since i have no room to place it yet i'll keep it sealed till i move but wow that steelbook is absolutely gorgeous - all of it's contents really! As always Emily your unboxings are genuinely some of the best on this platform :)
It's funny i pre-ordered this one on a whim a year ago and forgot about it, then I got a random delivery one day and there it was. I haven't even opened it up yet, so now i get to see what's inside
Missed my delivery today. Looking forward to picking it up from the post office tomorrow. I already finished the Asia release of this game, but I'm more than willing to go through again. $99 is really cheap for a huge collectors edition box complete. I've never seen a collectors box that huge for collections. It comes with a lot of things inside as well. The game looks awesome. I love the visual art style of this game.
It's really a great price! And I can't think of many collector editions this size either other than some of the massive ones with statues! And the game is pretty awesome so far - may be an interesting one to try in the RPG genre after you wrap up Persona 5 :)

I'm playing Persona 5 everyday now. So whenever I finish that, I'll let you know what I thought about it etc. I got a blue badge now at Amazon. After 8 months I got one. I'm permanent now. Basically I prepare bags & boxes for said drivers. I been working 9 + months there & it's a very physical job as bags can weigh up to 45 pounds to put on carts. I'm so happy that I don't have to wake up at 5am for at least 2 weeks now. I can finally get to my video games.

After watching a plethora of your videos I too can compare to buying so many games from Japan, currently living here. My biggest question is how do you decide when to act upon fomo since it dwells constantly on the mind? Great work with all your videos and keep up the great content!
It's all touch and go really. It's hard to put into words, and my method is really not perfect as I have made plenty of purchasing regrets over the years. But I think the longer you are in this hobby you get a sense of what you really want in your collection. And if you end up missing out on something it's not the end of the world because there are always new systems and games releasing to look forward to.
I bought this last year! Didn't even know it was getting a physical release!!! Yeah, it's not as good as FF16 but it is a fun little interesting game. I haven't finished it yet because I put it down every time something else comes out. Currently that's FF16 and Baldurs Gate 3.
I think the playmat would be great for people who don't have professional setup and just want to have something to lay their PS5 on. The physical card game looks very interesting, but I'm still put off from card based video games after playing Culdcept Revolt for the 3DS (the rigged dice rolls are highly toxic). Did you ever get around to downloading those two free wallpapers available for North American 2DS/3DS consoles in the theme menu?
Wixia/cultivation stories are a lot of fun! This game involves a little bit of it, though it's more of a xianxia which focuses more on immortal deities and demons. But cultivation stories often have pretty cool action sequences like flying on swords and things like that :)
Is this what brings the beanie babies back to collectible greatness? If so, what will stock hospital gift shops? Kidding. That's what is a most definitely great collectors edition should be. So cool.
Having played this on the initial English release on PC. While totally agree the combat can be a bit stilted by the less than stellar AI (both companions and enemies.) I think this one of those games that is so unique from an story, art design, and world building that some of its flaw, ca be forgiven because those other parts make for the them. I am very much like you, I am very selective about the collector's editions that I will pick up. So when I saw this pop up for sale on the PS5 and what came with the collector's edition the $99.99 is totally fair and worth it. Also soundtrack is fantastic! Another Chinese Action RPG to try and play is Xuan-Yuan Sword 7, that is another fantastic game to scratch that CRPG itch, as we don't get many.
Oh I'll have to try that Chinese action RPG! Hopefully with a lot more Chinese games gaining more recognition out in the west (like Genshin & Honkai Star Rail) we'll start to see more come out & localized 😊
I loved this game. It's a bit simple some times but it's not a bad thing. To me it felt similar to Trials of Mana in pace. And the stages are truly gorgeous. I also enjoyed moving apart from Japanese teen drama and watching Chinese teen drama instead. 😂 I would buy the card deck as standalone for sure!

Ohh is this 《仙劍奇俠傳》？ I remember seeing the Sega Saturn version for a decent price and passing it up (which I now regret). Reading about it later and it was interesting to discover that this was basically *the* domestically made Chinese game, back in a time when their industry revolved around pirating Japanese games.
emily you feel this game is a stand alone? this game have a lot of cutscene? lately i'm in the mood for a story driven game where i can simply lay down and watch some story unfold. (i know, there is ff16 but i disliked it)
Yes! This game is completely standalone. I recommend putting the combat on easy so you can go through the combat bits quickly and just enjoy the story/cut scenes.
I was looking forward to this game but, I already played it on gamepass and it sucked. I don't like the out of nowhere QTE crap hint repeat QTE over and over. so, I'm glad I didn't buy it.

The physical card game looks very interesting, but I'm still put off from card based video games after playing Culdcept Revolt for the 3DS (the rigged dice rolls are highly toxic). Did you ever get around to downloading those two free wallpapers available for North American 2DS/3DS consoles in the theme menu?
No I didn't really play around with the themes for the 3DS. I just have the Radiant Historia one on my systems.

What is your opinion about cultivator stories? From what I've been told, a good number of Chinese stories involve them.
Wixia/cultivation stories are a lot of fun! This game involves a little bit of it, though it's more of a xianxia which focuses more on immortal deities and demons. But cultivation stories often have pretty cool action sequences like flying on swords and things like that :)

Having played this on the initial English release on PC. While totally agree the combat can be a bit stilted by the less than stellar AI (both companions and enemies.) I think this one of those games that is so unique from an story, art design, and world building that some of its flaw, ca be forgiven because those other parts make for the them. I am very much like you, I am very selective about the collector's editions that I will pick up. So when I saw this pop up for sale on the PS5 and what came with the collector's edition the $99.99 is totally fair and worth it. Also soundtrack is fantastic! Another Chinese Action RPG to try and play is Xuan-Yuan Sword 7, that is another fantastic game to scratch that CRPG itch, as we don't get many.
Oh I'll have to try that Chinese action RPG! Hopefully with a lot more Chinese games gaining more recognition out in the west (like Genshin & Honkai Star Rail) we'll start to see more come out & localized 😊

I recognized two kanjis also as japanese (blue = heaven, ten / orange = human, nin sometimes this kanji is so similar with enter..)(icons in cards)
That price seems reasonable for everything you're getting in the package.

My only issue with the game, the backtracking for some places, the underworld platform and need more bosses......

I loved this game. It's a bit simple some times but it's not a bad thing. To me it felt similar to Trials of Mana in pace. And the stages are truly gorgeous.
I also enjoyed moving apart from Japanese teen drama and watching Chinese teen drama instead. 😂
I would buy the card deck as standalone for sure!

Ohh is this 《仙劍奇俠傳》？ I remember seeing the Sega Saturn version for a decent price and passing it up (which I now regret). Reading about it later and it was interesting to discover that this was basically *the* domestically made Chinese game, back in a time when their industry revolved around pirating Japanese games.

Yes! This game is completely standalone. I recommend putting the combat on easy so you can go through the combat bits quickly and just enjoy the story/cut scenes.

I was looking forward to this game but, I already played it on gamepass and it sucked. I don't like the out of nowhere QTE crap hint repeat QTE over and over. so, I'm glad I didn't buy it.
I guess the game isn't for everyone, I'm enjoying it so far. To each their own :)
