    Moulding is so darn true. I remember getting a pair of leather boots and holy moly, it was so painful, like I could wear them for 10 minutes then HAD to remove them due to the pain.
    But as weeks went on they became some of the comfiest darn boots I've ever worn.

    Another trick or extra step if you have a hotspot.
    Like you said oil and wear but also a bit of ducttape on your foot in the spot of the hotspot.
    The duct tape will help prevent injuries to your foot and usually peals off easy at the end of the day. 🤷‍♂️🤠
    Cheers 🍻

    Serious question for anyone who thinks they "aren't waterproof":
    Are you afraid of going swimming, because your skin will immediately absorb too much water; and you'll drown?
    Grease your boots correctly, when the leather needs it; and they are waterproof.
    I've been firefighting and farming in Inlanders for almost 2 decades. My feet only get wet, when a canal is deeper than the top of my boots.

    My first pair of handmade boots (Spokane made) are coming up on 20 years old. About 3 years after I got them I bought a second pair so if one was in for a resole I’d always have one, I wear them 300+ days a year. Can’t say how many resoles I have done but only now is one pair ready for a rebuild. I added my 3rd pair a month or 2 ago (shadow OT’s) and have since ordered a pair of the honey bison. All soles have always been honey vibram throughout. That original pair was $450 in 2005 so I’d say a lot of bang for the buck. The year prior to that I went through 2 pairs of Danner quary’s that were in the $275 range each.

    I’ve used a finger smear of Obenaufs LP grease all around my midsoles to help seal em’ up. Good thing I never used oil 😬🤜🏻

    Another trick for a hot spot is to put rubbing alcohol on the spot, it will relax the leather. But oil it after the spot dries.

    I gotta add my two cents in about the person who commented regarding price. I have 25 years in the electrical trade. I started my career wearing Walmart boots, then eventually got to the redwing range of boots. And at the time I thought the price was ridiculous for red wings. However I still wasn’t all that thrilled with the performance I got out of those but I figured that was the top tier and this just what it is. It wasn’t till later in my career, very recently that I started talking to a few other folks that had stepped into the handmade PNW boots and they sounded like salesman. They sounded like they had stock options in these companies and they sounded like they were trying to sell me on them as if they received the profit. However one guy said something to me one day that pushed me over the edge and made me willing to try a pair of JK’s. He said the part of your body that works the hardest and the longest are your feet. And then very shortly after that I saw a video from a TH-camr “wranglerstar” talking about JK’s. I figured if I am spending $3-350 every year or every 1.5 years. I figured I might as well try a pair of JK’s and if I get more time out of them and they address even half of the things that i am being told they did then they might be worth jt. i received my first pair if bison forefronts a year ago. Immediately i noticed a few things. the break in period was almost 1 day compared to weeks with red wing. the second thing i noticed was my lower back pain and my foot pain was reducing a significant amount every day i wore them. a year in and my feet no longer kill me after 14 hours on them, my lower back pain was reduced by 70%. and after a year i would say the soles are worm about 25%. so i believe i am on tract to get at least 3 if not 4 years out of first pair. i am sold and will never buy another boot besides JK. i love them so much just bought a second pair, this time i got the ot bison to get a bit more traction in winter conditions. i even find myself wearing my JK's on days off because of how much i like them. trust me, the price is really a bargin considering what your getting and how much better your day will be after wearing handmade top quality footwear

    Soon as these thorogoods wear out I’m ordering some forefronts or 300s they seem great but hard to tell till I get my hands on them

      I ordered a pair of Thorogoods. I put them on for like two minutes and immediately sent them back. Same with a pair of Rocky's (I had been wearing the same model of Rocky for years), sent them right back.
      Got a pair of OTs. No comparison. You will love them. Follow their sizing directions. I'm an 8.5D in Nick's, but a 7.5EE in JKs. 9D in Merrels and New Balance.
      Maybe Redwing Iron Rangers, but for $350 compared to $500 for the OTs. I'm glad I spent the extra $s.

    Another reason they cost more, they are made in America, not some third world country where workers are paid pennies. These guys earn their wages through years of dedication to their craft. Frankly, I am glad we have artisans like these in America. Sure, I can't afford more than one pair of boots like these at a time. But I don't mind.

    Do you oil bison leather the same way as other leathers?

    • @jkbootsusa
      @jkbootsusa  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! The leather will need oil at times but not as much because of how soft it already is 👍

    The hot spot on the pinky toe can also be your socks. Wear woven socks, with no sewn seams. That seam in regular socks over the top of your toes can be a bitch.

    @dusty6570 I don't have any clue what you are talking about or why to me. I have not a single complaint about JK boots or my boots in particular. I'm informing someone these are not waterproof. That's all. Get a life bro. Go cause drama somewhere else

      Then these boots are not for you. They are purpose built for people with specific needs. Or people that appreciate well made footwear. Cheap boots aren't cool and cool boots aren't cheap. Everyone has "their thing", also.

      @dusty6570 You get what you pay for and you pay for what you get.

      @WolfMimirMori 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      In terms of PNW boots, 549 is on the lower end, you have to look at the big picture. You can't compare these boots to something like Red Wing or any other leather boot that is mass manufactured.

    • @Awalker5000
      @Awalker5000 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I understand your point but remember, 1st), the materials (leather hides) are not cheap but the quality is so much better than a machine made leather boot. 2nd) Labor Costs. When you have a specialized boot made, you need the right specialized personnel to build them and 3rd) If there is customization (special leather hide, 'steel' toe, etc). Just remember they are handmade from the ground up. My boots are not J.K. but from another boot manufacturer and had them for over 25 years. I have never had one problem, fit my feet like a glove and they are protected for my work unlike the cheap machine made boot. And I can always take them back to get them repaired / rebuilt at the cost of a new cheap pair of boots. So the question then becomes, how much are your feet worth???? Cheap or worth a little extra money for top of the line protection.

      youll pay more than that replacing boots. if you cant comprehend the cost of handmade goods, dont speak. Also never have kids. We dont need more of your stupidity in this world
