  • Kanban can be classified as Withdrawal Kanban. Production Kanban, and Signal Kanban.. This video is a classroom demo of the Withdrwal Kanban as is applicable in a good store. It is a simplified demonstration aimed at bringing out the very essence of withdrawal kanban.. The viewer is encouraged to use this a stimulant to thinking through the deeper aspects. Our revered clients, such as Sunjewels and KBS Creations have implemented it and received accolades from their international customers. Shweta Chikhodrawala, Richa Rajani, Shailey Chheda, Madhushree Wagh, Ravina Kotian, Amruta Khairnar, Divya Shetty, Akash Tiwari from Welingkar PG-1 class, made the demonstration with the help of their colleagues.

    Kanban is a Japanese method of inventory management. As we know, the Japanese economy thrived on their automotive manufacturing excellence. Kanban is one of the methods (along with methods like Kaizen) which ensure an effective and efficient supply chain. Not only does it benefit the manufacturer (the store in this case) but also the supplier (the supplier) as they too can plan ahead of time.
    This leads to great savings(avoiding excess inventory), better planning, and an overall sustainable supply chain.
    Moving forward, we will see more complex, and interlinked supply chains which will involve more participants from across the globe. It is basically a two bin system where the re-order card is placed at the bottom of the first bin so that when the stock of the first bin is over, it can be replenished. For this, Kanban seems like an ideal solution. Being a manufacturer myself, I can definitely see it’s practical benefits and thus apply in my business. Also, this system helped Dynisco in maintaining inventory levels and many others.
    The video itself is a great resource. Not only does it help better understand a complex system like Kanban(including the Kanban card) , but does it in a student friendly way. Being under 10 mins, it also helps to act as a revision tool.

    Kanban is excellent and efficient syste of automatic replinishment of inventory. To maintain inventory at store two bin system is best in the world. Daily consumption would be from bin1, once it is empty we can use bin2 i.e. reserve or safety stock and thus immediately reorder of stock should be done. This helps to have enough stock at store and hence we do not loose customer due to deficiency of stock.
    The two bin system would help me to maintain stationery at store/office. Packing material (bags,cases) at Tanishq Eye plus and World of titan. Also this system will help in world of titan service center to maintain battery stocks, movements etc.
    Thank you kanban. This easy and efficients system would help every store or organisation for automatic replenishment of inventory or stationery etc.

    The video teaches us about withdrawal Kanban & it’s benefits, basically we put a Kanban card at the minimum reorder Level so when a person reaches the Kanban card, he picks it & drops it in the reorder box, the Kanban card has the reorder quantity, reorder level & suppliers detail mentioned on it, so as to efficiently place an order. The reorder level depends on the Lead time promised by the vendor & one of the efficient ways of deciding the reorder quantity is 2 Bin system where the order quantity is equal to the reorder level.

    I really appreciate the effort and learning you guys put into practical explanations. I watch most of your videos. But you have to make this clear and explain me Professor, for crayons, when order qty was 6 why did they ordered 9 crayons and what is the reason of putting kanban card in the first bin? What if a customer needs 2 crayons now? Please explain and thank you all :) keep posting more videos.

    • @DrG720214
      @DrG720214  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ravi, thank you for your appreciative comment. Regarding your question, please watch the video carefully -
      1) only 6 crayons were ordered not 9.
      2) The reason for putting the kanban card in the first bin is that we are following the Two-Bin System. So kanban cards get placed alternately in the two bins. It ensures first-in-first out.
      3) If the customer needs two crayons now, she goes to the bin which is not covered by the kanban card and takes the two crayons out.
      Hope this answers your queries.

      @@DrG720214 I watched the video several times, and I actually understood (2) and (3) but couldn't understand point (1). I am not finding the loopholes or the errors but wanted to get clear on this. I still see that they've ordered 9 crayons (Video 5:20 - 5:40 ) even when the order qty is 6 (mentioned on the kanban paper). Does this make sense? Have a look at Bin 1 and see how many did she put, it's 9. I would really appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks for helping us.

    Good demonstration but I guess it would be difficult to implement with a FIFO system where older products need to go out first. Any modifications?

    • @DrG720214
      @DrG720214  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your value adding comment. The two bin system explained in the video is a good way of ensuring FIFO. It is more difficult to ensure FIFO in a single bin system. However, if the stored material in the single bin system is pushed forward by incoming material inserted from the back, FIFO can be achieved. Convenience stores use this system for bottled and canned products. A bit cumbersome, and very hard to do if the material is heavy.

    But this method doesn't follow FIFO ( first in first out) method. Why is that. Otherwise the oldest order items will be remaining for ever and those will be become as wasted in future. So while you try to take them during the lead time.
    Those items cannot be taken as they were damage or expired.
    That is what I thought. Please explain whether do needs to follow FIFO or not in this method.

    Thank you sir for giving us a insight of Kanban and two bin system. It is thought provoking as you not only emphasized on reorder level, order quantity but also giving us to have a clear idea about having a track of consumption on daily basis(and also telling us that how to tackle when the consumption as per the plan exceeds the limit), how there wouldnt be theft and reasons given by store keeper for not having stock at par levels and how the managers will be well aware before hand about the reorder quantity.
    Doubt: in reality, vendors dont at times supply as per our agreed lead time,how to tackle that(and because we have to buy products at market rates from other vendor).

    I just have one concern that when qty is replenish ed FIFO is followed in withdrawal kanban?

    • @DrG720214
      @DrG720214  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes please. FIFO should be followed. A two bin system is great in that it helps ensure FIFO.

      Thank you Nitish for your appreciative comment. Kanban is a bit misunderstood and there are some videos which trivialize kanban, such as claiming it to be a board where you put up what is to be done and so on. Personally, I have found two-bin (as in this video) to be an extremely convenient system. We have another video on production kanban, which you may have seen at th-cam.com/video/90oQoXz1kx8/w-d-xo.html. Sometimes, something as simple as an empty trolley can become a kanban - no need of cards. You are welcome to watch it on th-cam.com/video/ZP6TBIwGmn0/w-d-xo.html. Enjoy. Fun and learning can go together.
