  • I wanted to discuss how to talk to a camera for TH-cam, and how I've been making my TH-cam videos. In this video I’ll compare writing a script vs outline, and how I’ve been able to overcome brain fog when trying to talk to a camera. I will also touch on using a teleprompter, and the positives and negatives between writing a word for word script compared to having an outline. Talking to a camera for TH-cam is hard, but by consistently putting out videos, whether it’s with a script and using a teleprompter, or having a loose outline, you will get better over time.

Just like most skills, talking to a camera for TH-cam videos is not natural for most people. For most videos it’s a good idea to have a plan, such as writing a script or outline. If you are writing a script you will likely need a teleprompter, which has its benefits but it’s not perfect. Today I want to discuss how to talk to a camera for TH-cam, my experience with writing scripts and outlines, and what the pros and cons are for both. I also will talk about some teleprompter options and apps.

How do you make your videos? Script, outline or simply winging it??

Interesting. For my videos I've been considering speeding more time in front of the camera, maybe as a smaller window in some of the how tos in order to make a better connection to viewers. For voice overs, i do a combination of script and free speech depending on the scene/subject. I didn't even know there was the teleprompter option. Something to consider. Maybe i should do what your have done and try a little bit of all ways

This was a great video, thanks! I'm trying to decide whether I should use a teleprompter. I guess I'm just gonna give it a go and see what I prefer. Because I talk about science I want my words to be factual, so I prefer writing out my script anyway. If that's the biggest downside of using a teleprompter then I guess I'm going to be using one.

That, the eye shifting and the less then natural and spontaneous delivery i would say are the major downside. i would given both a go and see which one you ultimately prefer in the end. Personally i seem to be reverting back to teleprompter as otherwise im just sitting in front of the camera repeating the same sentence over and over again until it sounds the best, which makes it less then natural anyways. i've only made 2 videos without using one.

Tymek, I see you are a professional but even for this video you look a little bit stiff at the beginning (telepromter stiff). For this reason I start "free" on telepromter und put for example 3 points for 20 seconds in which I tell free to get a little bit warm, for example 1. you will learn benefts of telepromter 2. xxxxx 3. xxxx take the 10 min to improve .... as free speach and than only start with the real prompter text.

haha thank you for the comment, but i am definitely not a professional. this was the first video i did not use a teleprompter, while i always use one for my other videos. i have gotten decent at using one without others noticing.

I use a teleprompter on my channel @verifiedtechie and still spend an hour average on a 10 min video. Gets really frustrating. Thanks for the valuable advice

yea ive come to really prefer a teleprompter, especially when shooting very information dense videos.
