And thank you for the kind comment! :) i think there are obviously some decent upgrades to the camera, but if those features arent as important to you then better to buy some more glass probably. its always tough knowing if you realllly need the upgrade.
I am new to your channel. Very well done. I am not a professional photographer. For the A74’s 4K60 crop - will the EVF and rear screen show the cropped image and how is the 4K60 video quality independent of the crop ?
Thank you so much :) yes both the EVF and rear screen will show the cropped image when you are in 4k 60. As soon as you pop out of those modes it goes back to the full sensor. They aren’t independent, the full sensor uses a 7k sensor that down samples, the cropped sensor I believe it is a 4.6k sensor. They are both 4 k output but the whole sensor will be just a little bit sharper, but you won’t really notice unless you crop in in the video.
I watched all your video regarding a7iv. I was about to pull the trigger until I notice how bad the rolling shutter was. My main intention for getting this camera is for event shooting, mainly dance/party/club, or simply alot of movement involved, be it the subject, or camera movement. Do you think the a7iv will suit my intention?
hi there and im very sorry about the late reply - unfortunately at the end of the day the A7 IV is a great overall but not the absolute best in the video department. the only time i personally have noticed rolling shutter is when you pan the camera super quick. at the same time i've also never found an issue with rolling shutter in that case. if you want the best of the best for video, the A7S III will be a great investment. but the A7 IV should still fit a lot of ur needs.
Question, so If shoot with a7iv in 24p in crop mode, the rolling shutter performance should be much better than in full frame? If you plan on doing more tests, these rolling shutter performances of the new a7iv would be much appreciated. Thank you!
That is correct, in cropped mode its using less then the full sensor and isnt maxing out its computing power, increasing rolling shutter performance to about the same as the A7S III. i will definitely be doing some tests when i get this camera :)
It sounds like you're saying that night shooting with the a7 iv is roughly as good as the a7s iii. I saw an a7s iii night video showing the quality max out at 51k iso. How would that work out with the a7 iv?
I don’t have it yet unfortunately, will be picking it up Jan 15. But if I were to have to guess, because the 2nd clean iso is so much higher on the A7s, when you are way higher on the iso values the A7s might be cleaner. However in the lower ranges the a7 iv seems to perform better
Do u think nd filter are really necessary can't we compensate by higher shutter for video if u don't want motion blurr does footage look bad without nd filter
Its quite subtle but the human eye has become very accustomed to seeing a certain kind of motion blur. using the 180 degree shutter rule (double shutter speed of your frame rate) is what we've been watching on televisions since the beginning, in addition that amount of motion blur is also whats most similar to what we see with our eyes. You can most definitely increase the shutter speed, and it wont be completely be obvious to everyone, but there will be people that look at the video and feel that something is off, even if they cant tell exactly what it is. to get the most professional looking video the best rule is to usually follow the 180 shutter rule, and compensate exposure with ND filters. I do have a very useful ND filter video guide to help you decide what strengths you would need depending on what lens you have and what time of day you normally shoot.
Personally I prefer a 4k 60p no crop but only 420 8bit than a 4k 60p apsc crop 422 10bit. It just me with 8bit I can still use other pic profile other than slog and still get very good quality. but the 1.5x will limit me from using it.
Yea the 1.5x is a limitation forsure, but i understand. there is a lot of information coming off that 33mp sensor, its not surprising they need to use less of the sensor to get it to work. even so i keep hearing people having issues with overheating on the A7 IV
Thank you and sorry :( it is something i've noticed and try to work on - its tough sometimes to find the perfect speed for people that want the information fast, as fast as possible, as well as for people that would prefer the information to be delivered slower. Thanks again for the comment though and i hope you have a good day :)
Let me know if there is anything specific you want me to test and make a video about with the A7 IV once i get it in my hands :)
Impeccable comparison. Very informative video. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Thank you for the kind words, i really appreciate it :) and for taking the time to comment
excellent. thanks for the review. I've had the A7iii since its debut but still on the fence as to upgrading.

@@TymekStolarz Thanks for your response. Do you think using say 24-120 and zooming in and out would help compensate for 1.5X 4K60 Crop ?

@@TymekStolarz Thank you, that could be a gamechanger for certain fast movements.
Thems the Specs. Good man
Haha there they are out in the open. Thank you :) I hope you have a fantastic day!
