I was using this early on for crafting and cooking and it helped so much while exploring.

I tried it out the first time I got one, thought it would be cool based on description, expectation did not meet reality.
Better off using dreamless to aoe ores and just quickly pickup plants when running past them. The amount of time saved by having the junk rock pick them up does not outweigh the amount of time lost having to run back to get the stuff it missed when it malfunctioned.
