First off, Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for spending your holidays with us here at PHT TV! Today we are happy to bring you the first of many RF7 battles on our channel. We are kicking it off with the 8000s vs the RF7IIIs. Both speakers held their own really well and we were surprised where the differences were and what made each speaker shine. Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below!
As always, thanks for watching!

I love my rp8000fs, hooked up to a marantz amp. Musicaly great over full range, certainly don't miss hearing any instrument being played. Vocals , are brilliant. Loved your comparison though. Appreciated.
The RF-7III's sound amazing playing on my RF-7III's.
Thanks for watching! Thats the best way to watch these :)
-Jason
🤣 Same
So glad I listened to this. I wouldn't even consider the RP-8000s now.
Hit us up for some RF-7iii. Call me direct at 270-556-8427
@@TopShelfAudio Have 1st gens on a mic'd 7.1 system with full spectrum control. They're dialed and I love them!
Wow, even on TH-cam I can hear a huge difference. The 8k almost sound muffled compared to the RF-7's.
The 7''s win hands down across the board except cost, but for the money the 8k really hits above it's weight. Both are bargains in their own right.
Couldn't agree more! Bang for buck is very linear on these. Will mostly come down to budget in a purchase decision.
-Jason
just a bigger soundstage
Of course they are more than double the price haha RF 7 are 9999 AUD compared to 3300 AUD for the 8000F
I have the RF7 III and a rotel michi x5 series2. And I love it. the clean sound, with lots of bass, it's beautiful to listen to, has received a lot of praise from several people who have listened to my set-up. and when I turn up the volume to high, it becomes a party speaker. haha
they can get super loud yeah.
how is the differenz between RF7III and RP8000mkII?
Great video! This is why I bought three RF-7 III's from you guys.
Thanks for watching! They really are amazing beasts.
-Jason
You can definatly hear the differnce between the two, I cant wait to order my pair of 7iiis today
Enjoy! Let us know what you think when you get them into the house!
-Jason
Man oh Man! That was an eye opener!
For sure!! Love both but, with the right power, the 7s just take things to the next level!
-Jason
I listened to these both in person with Frank Sinatra - Fly To The Moon and man the trumpets and vocals sounded so clean, well separated, more dynamic, and not muddy with the RF-III. Unfortunately with my budget spread across purchasing the entire HT setup I couldn't purchase those but have my eye set on them in the future.
So I'm running the RP-8000F's and I'm not disappointed at all because when you aren't comparing you don't know what you are missing. They still sound 5x better than anything else in my household. The leap from crappy $500-750 soundbars to 8000F's is massive compared to going from an 8000F to RF-3's. However, you cannot help but get the feeling that if you had the RF-3's you wouldn't need anything else unless you are a die-hard audiophile chasing the best until death. I even listened to some Scala's and while they are absolutely amazing to the point where I felt like I was at a concert in the crowd as the sound stage is just so good, I cannot help but feel like RF-3's are enough unless you are an audiophile; not an audio enthusiast like myself.
Ironically the better audio you hear in your system the more you will feel disappointed listening to audio anywhere else in your house, headphones, or car. You will feel disappointed in your friends' systems and most systems you might encounter. Whether you like it or not your ears will start to become audio snobs haha so try to stay humble to other people's budget needs and enjoy the journey.
They are both awesome and I 100% agree on the comparing aspect. If they aren't side by side, or if you've never heard the 7s, you'll never know what you're missing. I've never been in a room with the 8000s and been disappointed in the slightest.
Agree on your other point as well. Man I hate listening on other people's systems. I can't watch TV in a hotel room or at a friends house or, mostly anywhere without being left wanting. I have definitely become spoiled a bit. haha
-Jason
Most of the time the difference between being an Audiophile and an Audio Enthusiast is the ABILITY or WILLINGNESS to spend more $$$$$$.
Thank you for doing this video, it’s the one I’ve been waiting for!!
And also, I really enjoy Trey’s insight/feedback
Thanks for watching! Hope it helped!
-Jason
listening to comparisons of 2 different klipsch speaker with my new just set up today RP-8000fii
This channel is great.
thanks man
Having demoed these in an audioshop:
The RP-8000F gains a lot more "smoother and clearer output" in the lows, mids and higher frequencies with a powerful stereo amp, but I noticed some +4-5000$ AVRs I tested didn't get everything out of them, as a similar grade Stereo Amp did. The openness was on a whole different level, along with clarity.
- I compared from the Stereo amp department in the end Denon PMA-2500 VS PMA-A110, and it was a was night and day difference alone on these two. The A110 seemed to make the RP-8000Fs really sing. RP7-IIIs seemed to be more unfazed, but gained more clarity and stereo image/natural sound.
- I followed this up also with your review of the RP6k and RP8k, and I felt similar in the RP8k, that the amp might bring something more to the table to beat the 6K in Hot Potato. However, I haven't heard the 6K in person, only 280s.
However, just like you both well put it: "The RF-7 IIIs are a whole different kind of a beast".
- I don't know what it is exactly, but the RP-8000F seemed to be very sensitive to the quality/power/cleanliness of the amp. RF-7 were able to dish out more effortlessly a lot more show and tell.
These RP-8000Fs don't cut it against a RF7-IIIs in capability, but it can be more well-rounded, as the "mid-dip" is not that audible and the clarity picks up a whole new level on a higher-end amp. That's what ultimately caused me to pick the RP-8000F and invest in the PMA-A110 initially: Manage 'til I can pool some extra money for Cornwall IVs or Forte IVs(have watched all of your videos on that by the way, great job!).
- But the power/quality of the amp is interesting factor with the RP-8000Fs, I'm still trying to understand the logic behind it, but if there is a small gap in the middle, if a more powerful amp seems to even out the curve and bring openness to the table, I'm good I'm covered for my next upgrade.
- The shop also commented, that the RP-8000F is "...one of the most picky speakers about the amp we've had for demoing. Amp is what turns these from a good speaker to a great one in my opinion."
Nevertheless, very good review in my opinion and I agree. Heritage model, 'til we meet in a few years!
Thanks for watching and thanks for your personal review! I love hearing others take in the comments here because, every person hears differently and has a different take on what they are hearing/what they have heard.
The amp will 100% make a huge difference just like everything else in the line. Everything is important and will change your listening experience from the source to the amp to the speakers to the room and to the listener. The biggest thing we always push for is telling everyone to do exactly what you did and are doing; Hear them in person! Listen with your own ears. Listen to your personal favorite music. In the end, you are the one listening to these at home so, you'll want to buy the gear that you will enjoy. Not what some dude in a TH-cam video told you was good. :)
Thanks for sharing your input/experience!
-Jason
Have to say though, bottom line is that I fully agree, the RF7-IIIs are built on a different price point, and different output on what it can deliver. The test that you did really brings that out well.
- The RP-8000Fs are *very* good for the price that they are in, but ultimately it's like potatoes and oranges. It's almost two completely different things.
- Keep up the good work! =)
I went from the RP-280F to the RF73 and that compression driver really magnifies the details. If you can get the RF7iii definitely get them. The 280s were great for were I started. For that price range though the 280/8000 are very very good.
Thanks for watching! They are both great bang for buck ratio, but both the bang, and the buck differences are fairly significant. :)
-Jason
Greatest Christmas gift. Thanks guys
Thanks for watching!
-Jason
RF7 III to the Cornwall IV would be my pick to hear your opinion on.
This one was interesting. The RP8000F sounded a little muffled in this video but I wonder if the RF7 is a bit bright or sucked out on the mids. Hard to say over TH-cam.
I have a pair of RP8000F as rears in my home theater (Revel 228be in my main system) and the RP8000F does not sound muffled in person for two channel.
Thanks for watching! We are for sure doing RF7 vs FIV. Cornwalls will likely follow that as requests have been stacking up. :)
-Jason
I've never seen a person close their eyes like me, and agreed with your points guys, I don't feel alone in this world anymore 😁
Gotta numb all of those other senses and focus on the one that's important in the moment. :)
-Jason
Hey, thanks for this comparison. Question: are you guys running any sort of room correction in this comparison?
we usually don't, room correction varies quite a bit and it could potentially skew the results plus A/B'ing them would be incredibly painstaking, you'd at least theoretically have to rerun room correction every time you switched. Demo'ing a speaker on a another speaker's settings wouldn't be good.
Thank you for the comparison! You can really hear the tweeter difference is. But I think that settles it since I'm going to be using for 95% theater in a 5.3.4 set up guess time to get them 8k coming
They both have really solid bang for buck ratio. Most of it's going to come down to budget. You won't be disappointed with the 8ks in the slightest!
-Jason
Aprt from the RF size difference, why are they so much more expensive compared to the RP 8000 speaker? I have the 8000s and love them and no interest in changing them, but genuinely curious why so different in price?
While they look very similar, they are different beasts. Larger, heavier cabinets and beefier components all around. Designed to take much more of a pounding and handle much more power and output enormous sound.
-Jason
Should I consider the rf-7 iii for an small room (Home theater application)?
no reason not to. Reach out to us when you're ready for a quote. 270-556-8427
I know this video is 2 years old now, but got a question....
I own a pair of heresy iv speakers with a svs sb-3000 sub for two channel listening....
How much better would be the RF7 III be over the heresy iv's?? Are the highs and mids in the rf7iii as clean and clear like the heresy iv's??
Thanks!
overall output and slam and sound stage is better but midrange is going to be different because you've got two 10" woofers doing what a compression driver ought to be doing. Hit us up for some Cornwalls or Forte, you'll be upgrading everything instead of doing a lateral move.
Where can I find the Matt Summers Hot Potato? Looked everywhere I could think of but to no avail.
they lose weight pretty quick.
Wow......... Great content! I always worried that I overpaid for the RF7's when I could have had the 8k's for a third of the price. I had no way to demo either before purchase. Overpaid? No F-ing way! There is a night and day difference!
Thanks for watching! They are both awesome units and great value but, RF7s are for sure a step up. :)
-Jason
So what do you think about the rp 280 f They look the same but I heard that our beach video sounds better just a little
I had some RP 8000F's and noticed in the first 4 to 5 hours they sounded terrible and muffeled. I know there is a huge difference between the two speakers but is it possible the 8000's didn't have any hours on them?
I believe Tray mentioned on the 8000'S loosing some of the guitar on a passage due to suck out at the cross over point. If this helps anybody what I was able to do with my Yamaha receiver was to boost the sound about 1.5 db at the crossover point from about 1550 to 2000hz and it nicely seemed to smoothe out that dip on some music. I'm sure other front end gear will let you do this if anyone wanted to try.
Recently upgraded to Cornwall 4's.
I can confirm that neither had had much break in time. That said, both are pretty solid right out of the box. As for the EQ you mentioned , I would 100% recommend EQ your system to your liking and that's a great point. When we do these compares though, to be fair to both of the speakers, everything is run flat and everything is reset to give the most fair comparison.
-Jason
Reference speakers don't require much of any break-in, biggest thing that will change typically are the woofers and Reference woofers are very compliant right out of the box. On the opposite end of the spectrum are the Klipschorns, those take forever. -- Cory
Great video. I love my RF7II's and have since the day they came out. Since new they have been hooked to Emotiva amps. Originally an XPA-5 first-gen, followed by mono XPA-100 gen2's. They have served two purposes, music and HT. They are paired with the matching RC64ii, and four RS62ii's. I am in the process of building a new home and wanted to see what people were using in their theaters and found that there's a movement away from them in recent years for SVS, Focal, etc. At least from what I see on AVS. At their pricepoint, I never thought they could be beat and still don't. To be fair, I haven't listen to the newer versions, so, perhaps people fell out of love with them? I wouldn't mind trying something else, but they have been so good for so many years. I'd rather spend money on news subs or a projector. =)
There is definitely a lot of competition in the marketplace but, haven't heard of anyone falling out of love with these at all.
I would tend to agree on the components front. If you love your current setup, compliment it as opposed to changing it. That said, we place to do a compare of the IIs VS the IIIs coming soon. My response may change once I have them directly side by side. :)
-Jason
I love that you guys demoed these with music. Would an EQ bump up the midrange and treble in the 8000’s?
Thanks for watching! EQ will do a lot of things but, having a speaker you love while flat is always the best starting point.
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio Thanks for the explanation.
The upgrade from GR Research will sort that out
I stand by my RP-8000’s. They won’t sound good until you break them in after a couple months of music and movies. Hooked up with a good receiver. Should make any audiophile happy.
Solid speakers! Happy to hear you are enjoying them!
-Jason
Any chance we can get a review of the RP-8060FA, old vs new?
Thanks guys now I have to regrow my 8000’s in the trash. I cannot believe how that guitar just disappeared from the song when playing through the 8000’s. I like the 8000’s but I must be missing all kinds of music when I’m listening to music. I’m so torn on what to do.
Best bet? go hear them in person. Find a showroom near you and listen to the same music you do on a daily basis and hear the difference for yourself. If there's not one local, hit up Cory at PHT and stay in the HiFi Bed and Breakfast. Listen to all of the options and see whats best for you. Think he's still got a deal going where your stay is free if ya buy a set of speakers. :)
-Jason
I have the RF-7IIIs from you guys. Also a Marantz SR-8015 (Also from you) running them. What amp would you suggest for a "No holds barred" amp to ring every drop from the 7s?
Emotiva XPA-3 Gen 3...... but please be careful with your hearing.
That's such a difficult question as, there are so many awesome choices out there. One of my favorites at the moment is the Parasound JC5. We will be dropping an unboxing video of that guy in a couple of weeks. Make sure you check it out....Its a beast!...It's also likely what we will be using in all of the future RF7 vs RF7 compare videos... if that says anything. ;).
-Jason
How’s it sounding for you with the SR8015 driving them?
I bought the RF7 III last year jumping up from my R-26. I listened to the RP 8000 and the RF7 in person and the RF7 does not disappoint. Even my wife likes them.
That's a huge bump up! Happy to hear you are enjoying them. Still working on my wife to keep a pair in the house. Unsuccessful so far but, we will get there. :)
-Jason
I'm really curious to see the progression of the RF-7 across the generations. I recall the original RF-7 being replaced by the RF-83, then later brought back. Not sure if those RF-7's were the same. There was also the RF-7 Classic (?) that came in different finishes but had the same black dust cap woofers. All that before the RF-7 II came out. Man, it gets confusing.
It can definitely get confusing. Trey's been at Klipsch since the first RF7 was released though. He should be able to break it down fairly well. :)
-Jason
Youthman already has a comparison of all 3 generations plus a gen 2 with upgraded crossover. Good content, you should check it out.
What I'd like to know is if the price difference in these 2 speakers justified in upgrading from the 8000's to the RF7's? Is the improvement in sound worth it?
You'd have to make that decision for yourself. Listen to the RF7s and decide if they are worth the the difference.
Thanks for watching! I would say they are very linear in getting what you pay for. They are both great bang for buck ratio, but both the bang, and the buck differences are fairly significant. :)
-Jason
Option A is my favorite
Can't go wrong with the RF7s!!
-Jason
I have a pair of Fyne Audio f303's price £600 hooked up to 2 BK electronics subs at £500 each... sound is amazing and open soundstage is fantastic..
Very cool. When I demoed the RF7 III it had a midrange that was pulled way back in the mix. I didn't like that. I thought the Forte III was really good sounding though. I'm sure Klipsch tunes the crossovers and equalizers different on all the drivers on each speaker. Also, using a compression driver for the tweeter makes a massive difference to me. The RF7 III has a real compression driver.
They all do...
They are both compression drivers but, different drivers. I've listened to them each quite a bit and loved both... but never listened side by side. We plan to do a FIV and RF7 side by side in the near future. Super excited for that one.
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio I've never seen anything specifically referencing the 8k as having a compression driver. Not even from Klipsch. I feel that would at minimum be a bullet point in their advertising brochure.
Great review. I’m looking for an answer for Epic CF3s. What is a good woofer and av receiver to pair with them. I have a VSX-45 Elite Pioneer but it seems like something is missing at lower volume. I know this has nothing to do with your review but I can’t seem to get it right. Thanks
Thanks for watching! There is no need to match brand or components with a sub. You'll want to purchase whatever sub is best for you and for your personal taste. In Klipsch, I love the SPL 120 and 150s. You may also look into SVS. The PB2000 pro has been rocking my theater room as well. Give Paducah Home Theater a call for current pricing on these. (Side note: make sure you're subscribed and stay tuned. Unboxings on both the SVS PB2kpro and SPL150 coming soon)
As far as AVR, the VSX-45 is nice and clean with low distortion, but it wouldn't hurt to have a bit more power to drive your CF3s. We did several amp videos earlier in the season you may want to check out. Have had a ton of great experiences with our Parasound gear and I've been rocking and NAD for quite some time now as well.
hope this helps!
-Jason
This is really good comparison. I have the older RP-280's and always thought they sounded a bit flat/thin. This is exactly what I am hearing in this comparison. Wow!
Thanks for watching! It was for sure an interesting one!
-Jason
When will you have a video posted of the RF 7-3 versus Cornwall iv ? :)
Thanks for watching! Hopefully soon! Working out the schedule as we speak! Subscribe and stay tuned. :)
-Jason
Seems like there's a bit of a frequency gap on the 8000f. It just doesn't seem as full bodied as the rf7iii
The 7s are for sure a step up. That said, some of what you are hearing could be due to the recording and compression over youtube.
-Jason
Great video guys. I have to say that after that I now need to get the 7s after only ever hearing the 8k's, the 7s will be the last speaker I'll ever buy. Just curious as to how far you sit from the speakers - how far are the backs from the wall? You're later vids with db meter is great, sure shows the difference in sensitivities. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks for watching! Let us know when you decide to pull the trigger on the 7s. Happy to help in that department as well!
I want to say in this video we were about 14 ft from the speakers and they were 18" off the back wall. This varies a bit from video to video but this is generally our setup. Hope that helps!
-Jason
The cameras are blocking the tweeters on the 8000Fs.
A bit, but we moved around, altered angles checked it all out, and it wasn't enough to alter our opinions or drastically change the sound. Obviously they wouldn't be there in a permanent setup but, can't have a TH-cam Channel without cameras despite the fact that they get in the way sometimes.
-Jason
Hello all. Need some advice. I have Yamaha 3080. Should i go with rp8000F or go with rp280f?
Purpose listing to movies and vynyl
Hello there,
can you tell me which floor-standing speakers are the best to pick from down?
Klipsch R820F
SVS prime
My AVR is DENON X2300W
I personally tend to lean more toward Klipsch in every compare but my preferences may differ from yours. I would recommend hearing them in person. Preferably in a side by side comparison if possible.
-Jason
Could you put a RF7iii crossover in the RP8000f? Would that make a difference in the way they sound?
Could you? Suppose you could... Would I recommend it/would it be a good idea? No. The guys at Klipsch design the crossovers based on the specific drivers/cabinet/overall design. You want to stick with the crossover designed for the specific speaker.
-Jason
Do a comparison between using a receiver vs using an external amp giving the RF7’s their full power handling capability(250watts)! That would be fascinating🙌
Would love to! We've been talking about this one for a while. Hope to soon but it may have to wait for next season.
-Jason
Been wanting to move my 28Fs to rear surround and was deciding if the 7III was worth 4x the cost After watching this video I see (hear) it really really is.
They are Beasts for sure!
-Jason
I have the RP-280Fs and I want to upgrade during next year; the strongest candidates are the RF7III and the Forte IV; I'd love to watch a head to head between those two...
I've got the same RP 280s 5yrs old now sound great, I just shifted all low end to my sub Def tech 4000, so 280s only play high & mids.
Running them with Yamaha Aventage 3050 bi amped with 9 awg copper wires twisted dyi. Great sound stage, depth, awesome sounding to me. But always wanted the 7s but was afraid they are to big. Thxs
Thanks for watching! This has been a huge request. Make sure you are subscribed. RF7 vs FIV compare coming soon. :)
I wonder if the RP8000F could be EQ'd to match the RF-7 tonality?
I know EQ can't change EVERYTHING, and I believe the RP8000F will never match an RF-7 no matter how well an EQ is executed, but the perhaps the glaring difference can be significantly lessened?
@@mclement052164 Check out the crossover upgrade that GR Research has on his channel here on YT.
guys can you pls me where did you get those klipsch wall art i love to get the same thing but i dont know where to buy it
You may be able to find on ebay or similar but typically it's reserved for those who purchase the product and a matching poster is sent with the product purchased.
-Jason
Hi,, i own a pair of RF7s and thinking of upgrading to RF7lll. I know there is a major difference between the RF7 to the RF7lll? Is it better or different,? It’s a bit hard to compare in the store when the equipment running them is different to what I am running at home. Are you going to to a comparison between the original RF7 and the RF7lll?
Thanks Emmanuel
Thanks for watching! It will for sure be a different beast comparing in store vs at home. The room alone makes a huge difference in your listening experience. While the 1st gens are great, years of tweaks, engineering, and tech have gone into the furthering of the product. They have come a long way.
We plan to do an RF7 vs RF7II vs RF7III compare in the near future. Stay tuned! I'm excited as it will be a great compare.
-Jason
Can you run a pair of rp 8000fs with a receiver like a denon without the need for an additional amp. I entent to have a 5.2.4 set up and the rear channels were probably gonna be a 600m
Yes, you can and it will sound great. I would recommend looking into the higher tier receivers though to try and get the most of your speakers. Decent power and low distortion is key. :)
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio maybe a processor? Can you make a fee recommendations.
With a processor you would be diving into the separates realm as it wouldn't power the speakers at the same time like a receiver would. Then you would be looking at external amps and you mentioned you were trying to avoid that. If you are looking for an all in one unit, the receiver route would be the way to go but you'd want to look at the higher tier ones and try to get to that 140-150(ish) W range with lower distortion ratings. The one we are using in many of these demos would be a great option. It's the NAD T778. If not this specific unit, I would look at others with similar specs.
If you wanted to start looking at separates, that would be a great option as well. As a starting point, I would recommend checking out a few of our amp and processor videos from earlier this year. We have a video up that's an "intro into separates," as well as a few others. Should be a good jump off point if you're interested. :)
-Jason
They are very nice. Today I got my rc64iii. Upgraded it from the rp 450c. Very happy with the sound. Next plan is to upgrade my 280F for the rf7iii. My only concern is that my onkyo tx nr 5010 is runing short in power with this set up. So first an other Amp or first the rf7iii... What should I do?
Enjoy it! Congrats on the upgrade! We get this question all the time and there are two thoughts to consider.
First, if you upgrade the amp first, you can enjoy it with your 280Fs. It is likely you'll notice a significant upgrade in quality in the 280Fs by juicing them a bit more. Downside is that by the time you pull the trigger on the 7s, there is likely to be advancements in tech where you could have gotten a bit more bang for buck in the amp dept and more amenities. Amp/computer tech moves a lot faster than other things.
Buuuut, If you upgrade your speakers first, you won't be able to reach their full potential with this amp and they may seem like they are lacking that extra umph. That, and you'll want to watch how hard you push them. Underpowering can also have detrimental effects on the speakers.
All in all, there are pros and cons to each way you go. You may want to give Cory or Steven at Paducah Home Theater a call or message. Discussing your needs/uses/listening habits will help determine the best route to take!
-Jason
Thanks for watching! It does kick pretty hard! Sounds like a happy transaction for everyone involved!
-Jason
I got a emotiva basx a3 for the front and 2 A4 for the rest and I have 2 other basx A2 can I pre bi amp the a2s for the 8000 and get another A2 for the centrer 504 which it doesn't have 4 connections so I can't bi amp that, the real question is is it worth it,it would be a big improvement?
Honestly it would entirely depend on your listening habits. I tend to avoid bi-amping but, if you have the extra amps laying around, no harm in tinkering. Hook it up and play. See what it sounds like to you. That's the best part of this hobby. :)
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio thanks IL try it
Marry Christmas 🎄
Great video👌 RF-7 III almost 3 times price compared to RP-8000F and of course another level
Thanks for watching! For sure takes it to the next level. The main choice most will have to make is, is the additional cost worth it for the improved overall sound.
-Jason
Don’t forget room size. Not every room is suited for the RF-7iii’s.
Try listning to the RF7s a tube amp , OMG they sound amazing. Thats what im runnin mine with
I will give this a try. Thanks!

Jason - theres nothing like the warmth and detail from a tube amp, yes solid state has the power and headroom but i dont listen to my music like that
I’d obviously think the RF 7’s were better hell they cost 3 times more, but for home theater what’s your thoughts on the RP 8000’s
Better yes, but more of a value? Debatable. The bang for buck ratio on the 7s vs the 8ks is linear which is what makes the compare so difficult. The 8ks are awesome speakers top to bottom. They will be great for you for music, home theater, or whatever else you throw at em!
-Jason
Please advise me , I have an old AV receiver Onkyo 3009 which better for movies RF 7 iii or 8000f..I don't have any separate and I will not buy any... my budget for speakers only
As for your amp, it will provide power for either set of speakers, sound will be made, and either would sound great. That said, you are not going to reach the full potential of either set of speakers (especially the RF7s) with that amp. My recommendation with these two is to follow your budget. The cost/benefit ratio is linear. The 8ks are amazing for the price point they are at, and so are the 7s...for the price point they are at, but with the increase in price, comes increase in performance. If your budget allows, the step up is certainly worth it. If it doesn't, the 8ks will not at all disappoint. If you do end up going 7s, you could keep your existing amp for a while, then when you are ready to take the next step, a new amp will take them to the next level. :)

@@TopShelfAudio thanks alot
Can you do another sound test for the rf7-111 they sound so good loved the video!😍
Thanks for watching! RF7 Vs Heritage...coming soon!
-Jason
how come none of the songs you auditioned is on spotify?
because we can get licenses to play these songs on youtube. People demand more mainstream songs but they also demand to be able to listen along, and we can't get proper licenses for them to do that.
Love to see rf8000 vs 280s since you can still get both and everyone says they are very similar.
Thanks for watching. Not sure we will have time to do the 280 vs 8000 this season but we are going to do 8000 vs 8000 II here in the next couple of weeks. :)
-Jason
For me the midrange seems more relaxed/layback for the RF7III and expanded while the 8000F seems to be closed/muffled
man I don't know, I highly prefer the compression driver on the rf-7 iii.
Can u use a radio station cus then its not u playing it right??? Idk but 98.9 the rock k.c .kicks azz
Would a Marantz SR8015 be enough to effectively power a HT system with these, or would I need to go with a significantly more powerful amp?
Thanks for watching! Are you asking for the 8000s or the RF7s? Really it's dependent on what you are doing/how you are using the system. That is a great AVR and for most use case scenarios, it should do a great job. To reach the full potential of each speaker (especially if you're asking about the RF7) though, you may need something that can push a bit harder. You could also use this amp to control the rest of your system, and use it's pre-outs and an additional amp to push your mains and give the extra bit of umph.
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio Hey, thanks for the reply! Excellent video! I was thinking the RF7s in a straightforward 5.1 setup mostly for home theater use, but maybe music as well.
Room size is a pretty big factor to consider too.
Thanks for watching! Room plays a huge role in any system for sure!
-Jason
The difference is HUGE...I expected to like the RF7's better (I find bigger speakers to be better), but I did not expect this level of difference 🤔
Thanks for watching! Some significant differences between the two!
-Jason
Love to hear the battle between the RF7iiis VS the Revel F328BEs
Thanks for watching! Don't think we will be able to knock that one out as, we don't have access to the Revels. Let us know if you get a chance to hear this compare though! Would love to hear your thoughts.
-Jason
The 7-III are very easy to drive. All my AMP's the ( Yamaha A-S2200, IOTA SA/PA STACK, Parasound 2250.v2 have no problem... even with my 8W Tube amp. the 7's really SHINE !!!
They sound great with any amp...but extra power helps. Hook them up to a receiver and listen and you'll love em...then I add a dedicated amp and the difference will drop your jaw. I've never heard them sound bad...but I have heard them sound significantly better in some scenarios than others for sure..
-Jason
I have the vintage jamo 707A they are still good but they are so hard to drive,I'm thinking to get the RP 8000f I hear they are good, and I use the jamo for music on another zone
Thanks for watching! Love the Jamos but you def won't be disappointed in the 8ks at all.

@@TopShelfAudio thanks for the advise, now the wait starts because he's all out of the 8000 and here only one store sells klipsh
I was on the verge of ordering the RP-8000F but this video made them sound like pure trash. Are you guys using .MP3 files? Hard to understand why the RP-8000F are sounding so bad. I'll have to go listen to them somewhere in person.
I can assure you that they are far from trash. For sure listen to them in person. These videos are more designed to share our commentary. Listening to a recording of speakers through TH-cams compression through some other set of speakers is not going to give you a good demo in the slightest. Hit up your local dealer and hear them in a store. They are pretty awesome speakers. :)
-Jason
I feel that the testing subjects should have been adjusted to reflect a similar height...or angle the 8000's the project from an axis that gives it more height....jmo
Thanks for watching and for your input! There is a slight difference but our heads and the mic are about in the middle of the two. The plinth is also designed to angle them to land in roughly the same area. You'll notice the tilt between the two speakers is slightly different based on their size.
-Jason
I'm curious of Trey's thoughts on the recently updated RP line
He primarily works on pro gear. My guess is he hasn't heard them yet with them just recently being released. I plan to dive into the new line over the next couple of weeks with unboxings and, hopefully following that we can bring him out and we can compare the two gens side by side.
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio I'd certainly enjoy those comparisons!
Good stuff. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!

Recently the less one year old RF7 III and the RC-64 III’s of mine started to rattle and it turns out that the front black board has started to come loose. All this started after I a more powerful amplifier and also used the Perlisten D215s, which practically shakes everything. Not so happy that all the towers and centers started to give these issues. The authorized service Center did tell me that they have see these issues before, so not a good sign. I hope the Perlisten towers don’t have these issues.
You had this same comment on our RF7 Unboxing video but never replied to give us an update. --- here is what I said over there: "Honestly in my years working with speakers, as well as my years at Klipsch specifically working with these units, I've never heard of an issue with the motor board coming loose. The route you are taking would be my recommendation. Talk to Klipsch directly and see what they have to say about the issue. Be forgiving with response/hold times at the moment though. We are going into the busiest time of the year for the customer service team right now. May take a little while to get a response but they will for sure reach back out to you. "
Did you speak with Klipsch? What were their thoughts on the matter?
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio Hi Jason, Sorry, I missed out your comments earlier. I contacted Klipsch and looks like it has happened before, I was asked to take it to an authorized service provider who also confirmed that they have seen these issues a few items and generally the speakers just get replaced. I am currently waiting for the final update. I suspect it will take time because of the christmas season.
@@TopShelfAudio hi Jason, an update on the speakers. I received replacements for both the speakers today. Took about 15 days all in all but I am happy to have replacements.
Thanks for keeping us updated! I hadn't personally seen this when I was there but one thing I was sure of was that Klipsch would take care of ya. Great people working over there. Happy to hear you are back up and running again and enjoying your system!
-Jason
can u guys take it to the next level and re-compare these bad boys when bi-amped?
Thanks for watching! We have a lot on the to-do list at the moment with the centers, history, and compare videos coming up but, if we start seeing enough requests for this, would be happy to work it in!
-Jason
Hi . Very enjoyed your videos, thank you very much, I have them both, they both fantastic speakers, with me if they stand alone they both winer but it they stand next to each other Rp 8000 winer ( for money) I am same page with you, but with stereo listener I will choose RF-7 .by the way, I need you opinion, I am stereo listening 100% of time, do you think that worth to upgrade from RF-7iii to Cornwall iv , I want some things better than RF-7 iii for two channels listening, please reply to me because I’m start looking for Cornwall iv , Thank you very much and Have A happy holidays to you
Thanks for watching! Given the choice between the two, I would probably lean toward the cornwalls. That said, there are talks of us doing a side by side compare between the RF7 and cornwalls in the near future. Make sure you are subscribed. getting them side by side should help answer this question. :)
-Jason
You guys should try Phil Collins - Saturday Night, Sunday Morning. It's a nice quick instrumental that makes for a great quick demo. 😉
We do a lot of these tracks off camera and they for sure influence our thoughts but, only so many we can play on air due to copyright laws. The video would be pulled before it even went online.
-Jason
Thanks for another great review Gents!
I would love to see a RF-7 III VS Cornwall III Shootout!
I own two Cornwall 3’s & am considering going to the latest RF7 for my music room / now home theater.
Comments Sirs?
Thanks for watching! No comments now because, we actually plan to make this video in the near future. I want to hold my tongue until we get them side by side. Will say one thing though, while we may prefer one over the other for different things, there are no losers when it comes to these two speaker sets. :)
-Jason
Right now in 2022 - there are Black Friday sales on new Klipsch RP-280f’s for under 600 bucks a pair. That means you could buy FIVE PAIRS of 280f’s for the price of ONE PAIR of new RF-7iii’s. Are the RF-7iii’s five times as good? That’s up to you but I notice there are never any really deep discounts on the RF-7iii’s. Best you can hope for is a B Stock discount. Good luck out there….
couldn't agree more. The new gen is great for multiple reasons. Improvements on the current design is obvious but...the sales on older models is an added benefit for those looking to get into these that otherwise couldn't justify the price point. Old gens --- Still awesome speakers! :)
-Jason
Svs speakers review them
Would love to see a RC64iii vs RP504c comparison! 🍻
Thanks for watching! Coming soon!
-Jason
Nice work guys! Love your program! The RF7 were miles better IMO. Cleaner separation. The 8000 sounded like top end was drowning in the bass by comparison. The 8000 also sounds more hallow with box resonance. Keep up these awesome videos. Would love to hear the Heresy IV and Forte IV against the RF7!
Thanks for watching! There are for sure differences and the RF7 is def a step up. The choice most will have to make is, is the additional cost worth it for the improved overall sound. More compares will be coming soon. Make sure you're subscribed and stay tuned!
-Jason
It has more to do with the response suck out in the 8000’s than box resonances.
Don't you think they are to close to the wall?
Thanks for watching! It looks significantly closer in the video than they actually are. It's been a while since we shot this one but I believe they were about 18" off of the wall here.
-Jason
It's nice to see a review where mid-fi on up threw hiend audio isn't all about jazz, blues or classical music. It's about all music since they all benefit.
Thanks for watching! We try and include as much variety as possible. On and off camera! :)
-Jason
Wow! rf7’s takes the win! 8k’s not far behind at all!
For sure. All going to come down to budget and bang for buck for most people.
-Jason
Klipsch should bring back the KLF-30 with updated components. Maybe a KLF-40 for 2-15” Woofers.
Do It 🤘🏻
If they do, we would love to pull it out and review it for you guys! Compare it to some of the other models.
-Jason
That's why i have three III in front of my hometheater... 😇
Matching FOH for the win! :)

@@TopShelfAudio This is the Way... 😁
Having the back of the speaker boxes pushed up against the wall where the port is can be an enormous factor, and having them stacked next to each other is a huge issue. Naturally the flagship is going to be the better choice if money is no option.
PS are you familiar with Dunn's Sporting Goods down there? are they still around?
These factors certainly come into play. May not look like it from this camera shot but they are both about 8-10 inches from the wall so, they do have some space to breath a bit.
To your other point, having multiple speakers in the room will have it's impact as well but, with audio memory being as short as it is, doing it this way and having immediate switching capabilities allows for better compares. Swapping the speakers in the space puts too much time between the change.
I'm actually in Indiana working with PHT remotely so, not familiar with the shop, no. Cory may be though. He is the owner of PHT and knows quite a bit about the town and its history.
-Jason
i feel like the (new 8000f ii ) sounds like the rf7 !
It seems like they are for sure moving in that direction. You can tell they took a lot of design elements from the big brothers in this new iteration.
-Jason
RF-7 III hands down. When you switch back to the 8000’s it’s like you threw a blanket over the speakers.
RF7s will win every time if the choice is speaker vs speaker. When you add in cost factor/is the additional cost worth it for the improved overall sound aspect though, thats where things get a bit tighter in comparison.
-Jason
2 big issues are in RP-8000f: 1) dipping as high as 6 dBSPL at crossover frequency; 2) The frequency response of Tweeter is lower than the 2 Woofers thus energy distribution is not balanced cross all band. These issues may lead to such shortcoming such as guitar disappearing and dull music sound.
how much SPL manage the RF7III?¡
Cant say exactly. Far more than we came close to hitting here.
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio thanks
Those RF7's outshine the 8000's tremendously. It's a marked difference to my ears..
Thanks for watching and for your input!
-Jason
k you guys are constantly saying that theyre different, and ones better than the other here and there but you dont actually SAY which one youre referring to
Thanks for watching! In short, if money is no object, RF7s will take the win pretty much 100% of the time no matter what we are listening to. That said, money is an object for most and we are listening primarily to determine which speaker to purchase considering price as a factor. end of the day, I would say bang for buck is very linear on these. Both speakers are worth every penny you would pay....it's just a matter of budget and if the end user has the extra pennies to spend on the 7s or not.
-Jason
I want to hear Klipsch in person, but the nearest dealer is over 160 miles away.
That's rough. What are you trying to hear/what are you interested in? Happy to provide insight. Nothing like hearing in person but, if we narrow down your needs and figure out what's perfect for you, I'm sure you won't be disappointed when they arrive on your doorstep.
-Jason
Awesome video been waiting for this for awhile this video deserves millions of views simply because oo one else is doing this and the effort y’all put into it. I think another big thing would be to compare the rc64iii separately to other klipsch center channels and with it paired up to the rf7iii. I very often listen to music in three channel of Dolby surround with the spread feature on on my mrx720, sounds really really good man. The rc64iii is no joke I love it I think it pairs so good with the rf7iii that it’s almost possibly s Better choice than getting another matching rf7iii for center. I know a lot of the time this is the way to go if at all possible but how good the pairing sounds it’s hard to believe to could be better especially with the way the two speakers are voices the compliment each other beautifully. Watching videos like this make me feel so good with my purchase kinda like hahaha I told you so in yo face. One thing I’d critique is sometimes I think it was in the beginning yall kinda made it hard to figure out with speaker you were talking about. Awesome thanks guys and a merry Christmas and happy New Years happy holidays!!!
Thanks for watching and for the feedback! We are going to cover some amps next but, after that, I think centers is the next thing on the list. Some unboxing and compares. Stay tuned. Hopefully coming very soon!
-Jason
I haven't even watched it yet and I bet the 8000 wins the value debate.
Great value on both ends honestly. Significant price difference but the performance difference is pretty steep as well. The curve/bang for buck ratio is pretty linear.
-Jason
As my grandfather always used to say... it only costs twice as much to fly first class. -- Cory
Hmm, well thanks to other videos I saw on TH-cam, from yourself and others I decided to go with, the rf-7 III and an rc-64 iii for my upcoming home theater…. Though they are all b stock… but they still sound great, and I like them, though I still need to buy an Atmos enabled receiver… I’m still using the old pre hdmi receiver my family still uses in the family room tv, that we have had for quite a while… I think it’s from before 1993, or somewhere between 1993-2000. Though I am not sure. Now I also want to add we have other receivers, that are not plugged in, to the tv, that I will have to give a shot, at some point, though none of them support Atmos-DTS:X, so I will need to wait until I can get my full hdmi 2.1 supporting receiver, figured out in 2022, hopefully with a matching tv, with vrr, allm, and 4K-120 hz all supported… but I will be waiting until after ces 2022, to hopefully figure that out, it’s mainly between lg and Sony, though if I’m being honest I will probably buy an led, but oled is becoming more of a possibility, as I continue to compare the two types of TV’s, the only negative that is really pulling me out of the oled camp, is the possibility of burn in, which I don’t want to have to deal with, and a lot of what I watch has a static image, I’m talking the abc logo, or various other tv channel logos/I leave games paused on a screen for a while sometimes, by accident, on an old Samsung lcd as well..
Thanks for watching! RF7/RC64 is a solid choice. For sure a possibility that you may need to update that amp in the future to get the most out of your new system but, without more info I can't say for sure. Either way and with whatever you choose, good luck! Hope you enjoy it!
-Jason
@@TopShelfAudio thank you! Yea I will be getting a new avr, as well, hopefully after I see the improvements for next years avr’s, though I don’t think much will be done with the upper level Denon x8500ha, but who knows I will be waiting until after the announcements at ces though to buy a new avr, with maybe some amplifiers, if everyone really thinks I should supply the speakers with the wattage the speaker is designed to handle. While I will have 2 Klipsch rp-600 m bookshelf’s and 2 Klipsch surround’s with about 6-9 I think in ceiling Klipsch 5800 cdt… but I’m not sure how many of those in ceiling I will use in my home theater, vs other places in my basement, since I think their is some slight possibility of placing those in other rooms, to listen to music…
Of course RF-7 III is better, they cost almost 4 times as much as RP 8000f. Interesting comparison none the less, clear indication that you get what you paid for and RF-7 III is performing exellent at their price, as RP 8000f at their.
100% agree on both counts. The idea in this video is to see if the cost difference is worth the upgrade to the end user and establish cost/benefit analysis on the models available. Hope it helps some people out there. :)
