I hope the damage from the box accident healed with the time, and now you are preparing the vampire counts for the old world! revive the (un-)dead project! ✌🤓

I'm a big subscriber to the 'oldhammer is a state of mind' camp. People that get too het-up about this shit can go cry into their piles of lead-rotted C series Skaven as far as I'm concerned. Though you've rustled my jimmies by slagging off the 5th/6th Black Knights (that might just be the fact that I have 36 of them talking though).
6th was 2000 BTW, and the new skeletons do rank up on 20s from what I've seen. Problem being that the cloaks etc are all flowing in different directions...

no worries I know I'm very much in the minority on hating pretty much all 6th edition figures... ^^; I'm sure some enterprising individual can get them to rank proper but it kinda looks like a nightmare, so eh.

They’re not wolves. They’re dire wolves - large undead monstrous wolves . Just saying - if you’re asking why it’s so big ; )

I reckon your alright calling it old hammer imho. Anything not current is old, right? My fav period was from when it was still "undead" back in 90s (im useless at what edition is which) before the Khemri/Vampire split.

I've picked up the same start collecting box intending to use them for Oathmark, Kings of War and Oldhammer. Figuring out which models to fill out the rest of line is a bit tricky.

Yes, 6th Ed, maybe 7th? Was the best. I think 6th Ed right at the beginning. Empire and O&G were fine, as were Dwarfs.. But it started to get silly later.. Ravening Hordes was fine.. You could have great fun with that and the basic rules really.

Sadly GW fucked WHFB - with 8th.. With masses of huge regiments, while prices went up. 6th had a decent size, affordable plastics that looked good. The Empire and o&G boxes for example were brilliant.
I do love the 6th/6th Ed Dwarfs though.. That stuff from the campaign packs, cannon, drunk dwarfs, Hammerers.. And then the first stuff for 6th.. Longbeards.. I started Dwarfs because of that, even though I dislike the play style.:!

They had a very unfortunate accident last year involving stairs and a heavy box full of unpainted metal figures. I'll be honest, I haven't had the heart to look in the box again after scooping the remains in... I am however considering getting in on The Old World. :D

I think there are some lovely models in that Vampire Counts range, and what would we rather be painting - pretty or ugly sculpts? Good luck with the project.

Heh, don't worry too much about the timeframes on the challenge - from what i've seen everybody is taking a pretty relaxed approach and just enjoying the process :) On the topic of the zombies, had you considered a single large unit filler piece to help bulk out the unit? Something like a summoning circle, hanging tree or a mausoleum might let you expand the unit by 9-12 minis might be more in line with what you are aiming for than a whole bunch of tombstones (but TBH nobody i've ever seen at a tourneaument had an issue with tombstones - everybody knows how many extra zombies & skeletons a VC player needs after a solid magic phase ;-) )
