I've been searching for the vmax for a long time now and finally found one. This is a 2007 2nd generation Vmax 1200! These bikes are absolutely insane! Tag along as I do my initial test ride and share my thoughts and impressions.

I'm a Harley fan, but there's no denying the VMax is badass.
It's amazing that the Gen 1 VMax was designed over 35 years ago and still looks great. I had a 94 and a 99 model. People always told me it doesn't handle well, I said that's half the fun. Going through corners on the gas and it wallowing and shaking and hazing the rear tire. Sort of like a built 69 big block Chevelle with skinny front tires and drag slicks on the back. Enjoy
The thing about a vmax is when other bikers see it they don't even mess with you, they close there hands and bow.

I have a 2000 model. My wife rides the MT09 street fighter. We go to a little mountain bike bar here in NC and it's funny to see how everyone gets up to come and check out the Vmax. My wife complains that no one ever asks her about hers. Lol! Be safe and enjoy!

Look into getting a supercharger kit, easily makes over 200hp. Shadetree Surgeon has a video on a 240hp Vmax.

The Shadetree surgeon video is a gen 1 max NOT gen 2. And 240h.p. (ish) is NOT at the tire, it's closer to 205 to 210 at the wheel.

Always wanted one of these. I worked at a bike shop in UK when I was a teen and the owner had one. It was such a bad arse looking bike 👍🏻
I've bought my Vmax new in 96, it's a beast. My pride a joy.
I rode the first one, an 85 a few times. Quite fun. That year it was 140 HP. For 1985, that was pretty badass. While not as large as today's behemoths, it felt a bit heavy and long. My 85 Kawi turbo feels like a lightweight, in comparison at 500 lbs. The V Max with a 4 into 1 sounds like an F1 car once you keep the revs up. Quite glorious on the 85 version.
140 hp back in 85!? That's wild! Yeah, I was surprised by how heavy and not so well balanced the vmax feels.

For 86 and later the 1st gen V Max was detuned to 100ish HP.
@@upsidedowndog1256 Rwhp for an 85 was actually around 120. Of course some mods and tweaking you could play with that number. I have an 85 myself.
Im so jealous of your kids they are gonna grow up with a bunch of bad ass bikes in the garage plus between you and their siblings they will have so many riding buddies

Long story short, my 10 year older brother bought a Vmax in 91 and wouldn't let me take it on the road but said that I could drive it in the parking lot, which really upset me at the time.
So I went around the building wirh frustrations and excitement, and I just gave her at which point the bike almost left me behind and took off without me.I almost lost my grip and the adrenaline was pumping!
I owned an '07 Vmax..it was the last year of the carburated version. You are very lucky to come across one. It's power is intoxicating. The shifting was problematic for me. Second set of butterflies open at 5000 rpm.

This is great motor! It was in my Yamaha Venture Royale. I had trouble with front wheel wobble at 40mph. Sometimes violent, then work past a smooth out!(but I wanted wobble gone) so I called Yamaha in Japan! Their fix: bike on center stand, just loosen engine mounting bolts. In riding position, start motor an smoothly rev through the gears up an down 4 times. Stop motor, tighten engine mounting bolts! Lines up engine/drive line an rear end they said! Fixed wheel wobble! Just thinking how much more low end starting power an thrust from this motor to GL1500 I just bought.

If one is not careful the Yamaha V-MAX will take you to the promised land in a heartbeat! I love this masterpiece of engineering! My pocketbook will barely allow me to acquire a Honda Super Cub lol lol *** I had the use of a VMAX for about one week. I can tell you it was absolutely beautiful!!! Most of my bike experience was on the ZL600 Eliminator and the older LTD700s (Kawasaki bikes).
I'm selling my baby soon. 2007 & has about 12000 miles. Mint. Cobra pipes. Unbelievable, thrilling power. I will not sell to anyone that is too young or inexperienced. Pass anything anytime pretty much, which becomes a dangerous addiction.

I got an 85 vmax with the vboost activated 24/7 if it doesn't have any transmission problems. And do not run full synthetic motorcycle oil in your bike it will cause your clutch to sleep all the time. Im personally running 20w50 kawasaki motorcycle none synthetic like what they ran back in the 90s
I have my Vmax 23 years now. Change rear wheel for 17 inch, YSS shock absorbers, Frame brace, progressive Fork springs, Steering damper, upgraded ignition system, change final drive for one from Yamaha Venture ( gear ratio different) + 10-15mph, stage 2 dynojet, handles well for 80s bike

Love it, I have a v max with ape hanger bars , at first I thought mad idea,BUT was I surprised how comfortably and easy it is to handle with the higher bars and looks so cooI, I am blown away..Ray in the UK
I used to own a first year Vmax and became one with it, putting many miles on it and a handful of new rear tires. Too fun!

I purchases a real clean 2003 Vmax 3 months ago. The stories about them are true. They deserve respect but once you get to learn it you can enjoy smoking just about anything else on the road. Very fun very addictive. I have the voodoo bandit 4 into 4 pipes. The sound these make is unreal.

I heard previous owner talk about the K&N filter system. With a 4 into one that means they rejetted carbs too. You are probably faster than stock. Which is fast as fuck. I miss my vmax.

For those reading :..... Vmax = 73 cubes @ 145 Hp = 150 mph when limiter kicks in. Wet weight is 631 lbs......
The HD Vrod = 125 Hp @ 145 mph. , ( 69 cubes). 677 lbs wet weight.
Maybe he;s going after the Vrod Muscle..... 122 hp @6500 rpm , who knows.....seems pointless if the endpoint is a lower spec here, than the base model,..... hmmm..... anyways.....

This is a 1st gen vmax not second gen but right at the tail end of the 1st gen. 2nd gen is a fairly different bike but they are all great. Just got a 1985 yamaha vmax yesterday actually. Only paid $900! Cant wait to work on it and hit the road. These bikes fly.

Just sell the Harley. You won't ride it once you buy the Vmax. I had two bikes. Bought a 2016 new and never rode the others again. Ended up selling them.
@@Jason-sz5zv I thought the same thing when I bought my v-rod, now my back hates me and I'm selling it to buy a brand new Shadow lmao. The v-max seems to have pretty similar ergonomics to my night rod. The vmax really doesn't like to do anything other than go in a straight line too. It handles like a bear. Won't deny it's a fucking king of the road though. Once I get some extra cash I'm grabbing one for sure, but I don't know if I could ever recommend that be someone's only bike unless you didn't ride much.

My clutch is slipping like hell rn and my vmax buddy who rides a 97 told me it was because of the full synthetic witch causes the clutch plates not to grab properly

You were pretty correct when you say that these machines can be a death trap because, they do not like to go around corners at high speed.. The fact that they have shaft drive, and they’re geometry, wheelbase, rake and trail are all set up for just going in a straight line under control, but trying to back one into a corner, they are not very happy. They’re actually dangerous.. that’s why you will never ever seen one on a road race course, not setting any kind of pace anyway... I’ve never seen one. They’re just not designed for going fast around corners, and what makes them dangerous is, they connect corners very quickly. They’re sort of like dragsters. you ain’t gonna see a dragster on a road race course, they’re just for going in a straight line, and that’s what Vmax is designed for. So you are correct, they can be dangerous.. they are very fast, but-just about any 250 or 400 ninja will leave a Vmax for dead on a tight winding road..I know a little about it

I miss my Vmax. That V4 sounds powerful and its not like my turd V-twin that I ride now that is just loud. My cruiser now is a lot more comfortable though.
