  • Today we visit two properties to contrast and compare a luxury condo with a basic apartment, the difference in cost is $150 dollars. The location of each is identical, but the similarities end there. We look at each in detail, you decide if the size, amenities and style of the condo is worth the extra $150 per month. Enjoy the Ride!

Exactly that bud, we kept our place that is a great rate for 'Normal Tines.'. I'm worried that if we find an All Singing All Dancing place now for half the price, when things start to turn good again we will have lost the deal we have now , my current land lady would probably not like it too much if we come crawling back looking for the same deal we have now ..
Basically the way it's working out now everyone is reliant on the next person keeping their word and loyalty to work together as a community to keep each other going .. My land lady wont see me GF hungry if she skint, vice versa my GF would do see ome extra chores around the place to help out . We think the best strategy is to keep 1 foot in so when the tide turns were all in a strong position as poss going forward .. An extra £50 a month now will hopefully be returned many fold in as nearest FUTURE as possible .. Many of the snakes and RIP-offs who have been masquerading forever have been exposed and kicked out the loop already, mostly only good people left now may it stay that way for years to come..

Well-done video and interesting to see the contrast between the venues. I wouldn't go for either of these because I need to be by a bahtbus route, as I don't ride or drive while in Pattaya; but I certainly like the price for that condo which is about half what I used to pay for nice condos in Jomtien in better times. My longest stay was two months so I didn't mind paying 18-20K for a nice fully-equipped place close to everything - if I was there for a longer term I would definitely look for a cheaper deal, though.

All depends on what you want / need dude I'd take either 1 if it meant I could rent it for 6 months instead of 3..
My current apartment in PHUKET costs me and miss's 10'thousand Bhat a month,, that's a deal for what we get .. Had it for just over 3 years and really happy with it , the land lady really appreciate the fact we have kept it going all the way through this terrible situation , it cuts across all levels ..
My GF has been ON / OFF work since the first Curfew , luckily we chose the middle budget option as work here in the UK hasn't been great either , the 4 months I had no job , my Unemployment Benefit covered the Thai apartment for my GF AMD her Daughter , and we've all had to hustle to put food on our plates looking out for each other backwards and forwards ....

Nice one Lucas,I like your idea to do the apple for apple thing much more realistic than two different locations. Less than half price makes it tempting for the apartment, but the condo looked so much nicer, I would be very tempted. As someone else said appt short term, condo for a more permanent basis. If only we could come to Thailand 🇹🇭 😫. Enjoyed the video. 👍

I would take the cheaper apartment anytime! I had thoughts about staying here before, but there is one big problem with this area, especially if you have no bike and you like to walk everywhere! Although on the map it looks very near to Walking Street and just a few steps from 3rd Road, you can not just walk right out on 3rd Road, because there is a big empty plot in front between the condos and 3rd Road that is used as a parking lot at night by Chinese Tourbuses, and it is closed off with walls and fences from the Condos and apartments!!! So to exit and enter these condos you have to walk a long detour several blocks around the whole area to get out on 3rd Road! As can be seen at the end of the video when Lucas leaves on his bike, and it´s at least 15-20 minutes walk from your accomodation just to get to 3rd Road!

Loucous, this was a solid video. I liked the contrast of the properties. Location, location, location indeed, so the comparison was a good one. Frankly, I think the condo might be a better deal. Say you did want to add a hotplate or a rice cooker to the apartment -- more electricity at double the price. Add in the value you get from the pool and the gym (when open), and I think your quality of life is worth the price at the condo. Condo was spacious with a good floor plan -- except for that one space next to the counter that looked like you should put a refrigerator there, but I guess you could add a shelf/pantry there.
Had to chuckle at 2:53 though. "He's got a nice-sized unit." Uhmmm... okay.

If you are a young guy or someone scrapping together a small pension this makes good sense. I rather be in the north of pattaya but the south is alive. Living near a swimming beach is better than a chlorinated pool. The kitchen was basic in the condo but single guys can find affordable, healthy and tasty food throughout Thailand. Papaya salad does it for me with some green curry. Are there good arabic and turkish food stalls in pattaya? That is a nice change from thai, chinese and malay food. Thanks for the peek.

A gym is not an issue for me, as I can not use it, a pool is something I would appreciate but, yes there is a but, the pool at that condo is in the shade, which means cold water, great for most, a no for me as I have a muscle disorder, hence going in cold water causes muscle spasms pain and cramps.. I would still consider the condo as there is more room, separate bedroom, price at £225 not to much, though I may take the apartment whilst looking for something better, but both good options for me. Just curious, what’s the difference between an apartment and condo? Where I come from (aust), we don’t say condo, but I assumed an apartment, here in Thailand, refers to bigger unit within a building and a condo was something smaller. Seems that theory might be wrong.

The key difference is in a condo building all the units are privately owned. They all pay a monthly maintenance fee to support the upkeep and hire a management company to oversee the whole project. An apartment is owned by a single person or company and they rent the units and pay for all the maintenance and management costs themselves from the profits

The taxi fares can quickly add up so far from the main road and baht bus routes.
I spent a lot of time in Novana, but my girl had a bike so it wasn't so bad at night, or I'd be running during the day.
For myself with no bike, I'd definitely be looking for places a little more conveniently located. Without that concern, Novana is a great option though.

Yeah, good point. I think always nice to have a bike in Pattaya regardless where you stay.

Condo for sure for us. We're a couple so no studio for us. But we would need to spruce it up a bit because it is a bit sterile. Thanks!

i think that the main difference is that the apartment can be rented by the month where the condo is probably 1 year minimum both seemed very good value

For what its worth there are those who don't want to rent or own a motorbike with all the hassle involved with them....and the road in front of those places doesn't have a baht bus route. Your looking at doing a lot of walking or paying extra for motorbike taxis.

I take the condo since the "apartment" is basically just a room.

Good video as always! I wouldnt mind the apartment for a shorter term stay if I was JUST getting to Pattaya and needed a place to live (1 month or so) while I was looking for more long term housing. That condo would be a great option for a 6-12 month lease. It didnt look like there was a washing machine in the condo (just the pay units downstairs). Are condo owners amenable to putting in something like a washing machine and bumping up the rent like 500 baht per month or no?

Many times condo owners will do that. Not sure about this specific one, but I know that practice is quite common here actually.

@@Rides4Kickz Sounds like a good deal to me. Yeah, I was wondering more about in general than specifically with Martin and his unit. I know it can probably get tiring doing condo walkthroughs and price comparisons, but those do seem to be very popular videos. The one you did last year where you compared the $100 to $1000 condo was what led me to subscribe to your channel. Keep up the good work!

I would take the condo for many reasons even though its double the price you mentioned a few pool and gym but also its a 1 bedroom flat and not a studio ,I would stay in alot more in the condo due to the comfort however if i lived in the appartment id spend more than the 150$ difference by wanting to be out the room at every opportunity

Yes, if you are more comfortable at home, it may save you some money on going out frequently. Good point.

Whether its worth the difference depends on your budget. I would rather pay more than both and get something a bit nicer. However, it is amazing that you can rent a reasonable liveable apartment (Novana) in Pattaya for just THB9,000 p/m. A furnished apartment with kitchen for the price of 6 nights in a reasonable hotel? That's worth it, but there seem to be lots of good deals right now. I wonder when the prices will go up again?
