      Valid concern. Should not be too hungry. They still have their pellets, and manage to still steal an occasional fish, as you could see. The pacu are combined with tankmates who wouldn't let them bite them.

      @Fish-Story  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      As Gil says, pacu bite fins, tails, scales etc. whatever they can fit in their small mouth. Hence, cannot be housed with timid, defenseless tank mates.

      Once he is near full, he would swim around with his feed in the lips, also may spit and retake. ... At his age, changes are very slow. He had only started taking mullet well less than a month ago. So too soon to say. He wasn't thin to start with.

    With such a large tank you might want snake-catching tongs to feed them with

      It's a good thought. We do use grabber tools sometimes but maybe a snake tongs would work better.

    My new channel cat is outcompeting my pacu for food even though it's half the size. Super aggressive eater, he tries to get every single pellet. The pacu will eat out of my hand so I've been trying to sneak him a few mouthfuls before dropping in the rest.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's interesting. It is very hard to outcompete pacu because they are smart, fast, and adaptable. Also, watch out for pacu biting the fins on the channel cat. If my experience was of any guidance, it will happen sooner or later, to the point where your channel will be finless.

    Woo hoo, one more fabulous thing for me to do if I can ever come visit😃! After seeing it I now know I will show this video to my friends for the introductory presentation, not only will it be awesome to show them but I know the prospect of doing it if they can ever come visit is something they'd find very exciting.
    Some observations:
    -It looks like one of Zazula's 2 longest whiskers is gone. I don't see the left (its left) one, while it has both in a picture Christophe and Nadya put on Tripadvisor in April.
    Do you think the pacu or some other fish bit it off?
    -Very pleasantly surprised you got the paroon sharks to take to the tongs:) I would 100 percent have expected them to be too panicky and difficult, glad to see I am wrong about that.
    -This whole thing with having to target feed to stop certain fish from taking food they aren't supposed to is very familiar to me😂. IDK if you have seen this or would like to see it, but if you have, doing this sort of thing is exactly what I mentioned in my Burmese loach video: they have to be hand fed one at a time so Liam the Burmese loach can stay on his diet instead of getting any fatter.🤣
    By the way, I've been meaning to ask you for a while but it kept slipping my mind. Do you watch River Monsters?
    I don't think there could be a better complementary show or TH-cam channel for Fish Story. Lots of the same fish, and with how honest and authentic the show is, I think it's safe to say Jeremy Wade is more or less who you would be if you were hosting a fishing show instead of maintaining a public aquarium.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you.
      Zazula’s maxillary barbels are intact but the RHS one (on his right) is stuck up and has a limited motion. This happened after some fights with ZZ, I think.
      Yes, the paroons surprised me too with how easily they adapted. They are still taking fish nervously, you can tell, e.g., versus totally relaxed hybrids.
      Sorry, I’d love to watch your videos and many others but I ain’t got time. One of our yoyo loaches (out of 3) has been really fat, like a balloon.
      I love Jeremy’s adventures but rarely have time to watch even clips on YT. I still find some (most? All?) episodes are hyped up, I am guessing by necessity, otherwise viewership would decrease. Man-eating this, man-eating that… sends wrong messages to the young, the impressionable, and the ignorant. But overall, yes, the fish he fishes for - we’d love to have them ALL!

    • @KuhliLoachTrainer
      @KuhliLoachTrainer 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You're welcome:)
      Better than a blister like Dora had, that's for sure!
      I did notice, yes, and I do hope they relax some. I'm just glad they're doing it at all.
      No problem, I totally get why someone in your position could be too busy to watch mine and other videos. They and their Easter eggs for you are always there if you ever do get time:)
      I have never owned yoyo loaches long enough to experience this myself, but I have seen multiple reported cases of gravid females fattening up all of a sudden, ballooning just like you say, because of the eggs. This is not to say there is no overeating at play - I would be surprised if there is not because yoyo loaches tend to be on the greedier side - but the eggs play a big role for sure.
      Perhaps my impression of hype is different than yours, or the 9 episodes I've seen so far just aren't very hyped, but the impression I've gotten from those episodes is that Jeremy Wade tells it like it is - just in a dramatic way and context for (as you say) entertainment purposes. The only fish I've ever heard him call a man-eater is the piraiba, which.....let's just say that if you've seen the full episodes, you'd know better than to think of it as hype.
      I will say though that even if you can't have them all, for the ones you've got, you stand a better chance of having fish as impressive as he catches than you might think you do! For just a few examples, those golden dorado you have might become a whole school of lightning-fast super laceraters (if that sounds unfamiliar look it up and you'll see what I mean😉) if they are S. brasiliensis, and I don't know if he's ever caught a Zazula-sized jau.
      Plus - my personal favorite - that super-special-for-both-you-and-me-Pseudoplatystoma corruscans gift from Chase has the potential to outdo even the one he caught in River of Blood. That was his biggest ever, so if yours grows bigger, you'll have the claim to fame of having even Jeremy Wade beat on the surubi front.😎

      @Fish-Story  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for the headsup on gravid yoyos.
      Jeremy caught a 5ft or 6ft jau. The fish he catches are decades old. I will never have kept ours long enough to compete with the sizes of his trophies.

      Edit: OMG I just found the full Lair of Giants on TH-cam and it was released a mere 8 hours ago🤯! Talk about timing!
      Never say never! The fact that ZZ has reached 16 years now with Rodrigo by surviving the move from Rochester (if I remember right at least), and would certainly have done so if you had donated Zazula instead, means anything is possible.😃

      I rarely measure fish. I don't think I've ever measured the jumbos. Usually I just eye ball and use the lengths marked on the sides of the viewing window. There are videos where I am inside the tank with them that may help. But even that can be misleading unless we are side by side.
