    Watching this brought home to me the differences in barbels. The firewood’s look taut and under the fish,s control. The beautiful silver spotted cats in the same tank look much less taut.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are two kinds of barbels - some can be controlled entirely while others only partly and the rest is like an extension that has no control, same as the filamentous extensions on fins.

      There is a ton of temperate water fish in the world other than koi that could thrive in the UK climate. E.g. sturgeon, yellowcheek, murray cod, pike, trout, high fin chinese shark, channel catfish, etc. but I understand UK laws have become so restrictive.

    Yay! A firewood catfish update!😁
    1) I think this growth is over one quarter faster than even the 2 arapaimas, those 2 took 5 months to get to this size from a larger starting size! Incredible!🤯
    The arapaima as you know are going to be a major component of the introductory Fish Story presentation for my friends, and their growth rate will be one of the main talking points. Now that you released this video, I have added the firewood catfish to the list of recommendations in their further-exploration guide should any of them want to see on their own time what growth faster than even arapaima looks like.
    2) I really hope my eyes are just playing tricks but it looks like their snouts may be beginning to bend☹. Would you say they are bending or it's just a trick of the eye?
    3) I thought I heard you say you were planning to move them into the 1800/7K liter, but I can't find that on the rewatch? Either way, if you are, it might not be the best idea.
    Tiggy the surubi had to be taken out of there at the size the firewoods are now because you were worried about his mouth being big enough for him to eat the smaller fish, and the firewoods should have mouths just as big as or even bigger than him.
    4) What will be their permanent tank? I'm assuming either one of the 4500/17K liters, or the 10K/40K liter when that's done.
    5) Last but not least, I'll reiterate to remember to get the pleco out! Waiting isn't worth the sadness from losing two fish at once!

      2) I really hope my eyes are just playing tricks but it looks like their snouts may be beginning to bend☹. Would you say they are bending or it's just a trick of the eye?
      ***I can’t say I see it.
      3) I thought I heard you say you were planning to move them into the 1800/7K liter, but I can't find that on the rewatch? Either way, if you are, it might not be the best idea. ***The smaller tank mates have been taken out of the 1800 due to the trio of LMB.
      4) What will be their permanent tank? I'm assuming either one of the 4500/17K liters, or the 10K/40K liter when that's done.
      ***Right, I think so. If they stay at 4ft, 4500 may suffice. If they reach 5ft, 10K would be it.

      Thanks as usual for all the answers.😊
      I just found out about something you might want to have your memory jogged about about. In a Monster Fish Keepers thread - not going to link it so my comment isn't refused - bobVillanueva said his firewood catfish had a lot of very strong flow. His exact words were:
      "Here's something i've done that i've yet to notice from others. Mine have always had a pretty strong source of current. While in the 75 I got him with a 2600 lph powerhead. Upon moving to the 3k, i have both a power head, a pretty powerful wavemaker and a really powerful return pump. in addition to that, i've got 3 more pumps on places in the tank that i thought would not have as much circulation as i would like. Hence, i would say that there was water movement (in varying intensities) around my tank. I've always noticed him swimming against the current in front of my wavemaker. from there, he would occasionally go down an "park" at the bottom of the tank then go back to swimming. He is one of my most active cats."
      Yours may benefit from setting up some enhanced current in their permanent home when they get to that point.

    If any of your firewood planiceps happen to unfortunately die from old age or other factors would you use them as firewood? Just a sorta funny idea that popped up.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      :) From what I read and imagined, the south americans would throw them on the banks and the sun would dry them up. IDK if they rotted or began to rot first and then got dried or if the sun was strong enough to dry them first. Then these dried mummified bodies were used for firewood.
