That monster island buddies part got my brain turning. I remembered years ago when I binge watched every single episode of monster island buddies. So so many memories, flooding back. Now I wanna do it again but like hell I'm gonna.
I'd be interested to know your take on the Japanese cut over the American. The original cut's lack of the po-faced news scenes means there's more room for establishing the comedic characters so there's less of a juxtaposition. While you call the comedy "dated" it has an emphasis on manipulative advertising and short sighted corporate greed, which are pretty evergreen concepts. There's also language barrier stuff: Mr Tako's name means "Octopus" in Japanese. Just as he sends his two men to mess with the island, an actual giant octopus does the same thing. A little bit more of the dry but absurd Japanese humour they love so much.
My understanding is it's also a heightened example of the "Salaryman comedy", a genre that was extremely popular in Japan but AFAIK never really exported. The movie plays with a bunch of tropes from that genre.
@@dubuyajay9964 Yes, Tadao Takashima and Yu Fujiki were the top stars of salaryman comedies as Suzanne mentioned. Ichiro Arishima was indeed also a famous comedian in Japan.

You could even say that shocking Kong to restart his heart was a callback to the electrical powers in this movie. The new movie feels a lot like the "fun" era of kaiju films, where things didn't really have to make that much sense or be too serious, in the grand scheme of things the stakes in the new film are really low.
"¿ves? Te dije que no te la ibas a acabar."
Okay, this is the Brandon Tenold that got me hooked on his channel. Bravo!
Honestly, unless there's a scene where Dr. Graham turns up alive, and pissed at everyone for leaving her in Antarctica, I think I'm sitting this one out. Still having PTSD flashbacks...
What?
Wasn't the mustache guy a famous Japanese comedian and the two male leads a manzai sketch duo?
My understanding is it's also a heightened example of the "Salaryman comedy", a genre that was extremely popular in Japan but AFAIK never really exported. The movie plays with a bunch of tropes from that genre.
@@dubuyajay9964 Yes, Tadao Takashima and Yu Fujiki were the top stars of salaryman comedies as Suzanne mentioned. Ichiro Arishima was indeed also a famous comedian in Japan.
@@ConstantineFurman So a starring cast, just one you usually not expect in a Godzilla or Kong film?
Is there a negative of the original? I heard it's been lost.
MIB and Brandon Tenold?
Now that's a match right there! :) Excellent callab guys! :)
We need a Alien vs Godzilla and a Predator vs King Kong double feature 🤣
Great stuff! I love your channel! Keep up the Great work
Kong won on Godzilla’s turf. Now Godzilla will win on Kong’s
There is a prequel comic based on the remake where Godzilla did visit Skull Island and I think Kong was fighting a Female M.U.T.O at the time before fighting Godzilla.
"Oh man, I really gotta lay off the Soma" is particularly funny because Soma is a real drug, a muscle relaxer.
10/10 for that recap!
That intro was spot on lol this is why I love this channel.
If king doesn’t shove a tree down Godzilla’s throat in the new one I quit
I am so happy this was in my recommendations because you are so entertaining. I look forward to exploring the plethora of content you have made. I have a tiny attention span. If whatever I am watching is not engrossing in the first minute I move on but I am suprised almost every video is intelligent and witty with subjects that have not been repeated by every other youtuber. Thank you so very much. You are so appreciated.
Is Godzilla an Orphan?
TeamGodzilla
Wait King Kong Vs Little Orphan Annie?... Simpsons did it.... Season IV, Tree house of terror III, King homer on his rampage eats Shirly Temple
Yeah, and Paul Bunyan fought Rodan.
@@gabrielboorom6196 Which one of us is the story telling hobo?
#SimpsonsDidItFirst
@@restionSerpentine As long as you're not a stabbing hobo.
Is Shirley Temple an orphan?
I love the idea of you and MIB cooperating in a video
2:48 Where did you get that King Kong Figure?
If Kong wanted to fight an orphan, he should've fought Batman.
The American scenes in a nutshell:
MaPp!
You missed a great opportunity for a futurama reference with that electricity addiction thing.
I stand by my "Crank: High Voltage" reference
Since Godzilla is a hundred times the size of a T-Rex wouldn't his brain be larger.?
I have been waiting SOOO LONG for this!
Personally I would've preferred the movie ending with Godzilla's decapitated head winking at the audience, indicating that neither side won.
You know that's the ending to Freddy vs Jason where Jason is holding Freddie's decapitated head while coming out from the lake when the camera shows Freddie's decapitated head winking to the audience
@@ciscovaiese7535 That's the joke
@@ciscovaiese7535 ...you're a little slow on the mental draw, aren't you
@@jamesduncan6729 no I get the reference I was just explaining what the reference is
You got Monster Island Buddies for your intro?! MUH'FUGGIN QUALITY!!!
I love that Kaiju toy intro. Just as great as the one from DESTROY ALL MONSTERS review.
haha those little skits were funny man, good video.
09:30. I believe ArtSpear Entertainment had a BRILLIANT "Let them fight" scene. XD
You know, I actually thank you and MIB should just remake all the Godzilla movies in that format.
Last Saturday, I saw King Kong vs Godzilla on TH-cam, and it's one of my favorite Godzilla movie of the 1960s.
If you can afford it, please get the Godzilla Criterion Bluray Collection.
Hahaha MIB and Brandon is the Best Godzilla comedy duo 😂😂😂🤣
And This was a great review keep it up!.
Perfect timing seeing as Godzilla vs King Kong is coming out this weekend 🙌 😎
Who else is excited 4 its release
Right here!
You crossed over with MIB!!! This had to happen!!!!! The best crossover!
Brandon in thumbnail: King Kong thunderbolt
Best opening with Monster Island Buddies as it is my childhood lol
9:37 That dub actor sure makes "Fujita" sound like "Vegeta."
When I first started watching DBZ, I legit thought Vegeta's name was "Prince Fujita."
@@ConstantineFurman
King Kong to Vegeta
" I WAS A GIANT MONKEY BEFORE ANIME!!! "
;3
That recap was freaking amazing
9:37 Did he say Vegeta?
the lost sequel to Bambi meets Godzilla we never know we need... King Kong vs Little Orphan Annie
For those wondering what Godzilla says at 16:44
"See? I told you that you weren't gonna finish it all!
Best recap ever, seriously, almost spat my drink out.
