I can share this experience too. Got skunked nearly an entire day at Kent Lake. I was even using tandem spinners and dressing them with soft bait like this guy was using; they weren't taking it. I wound up catching a 30inch Pike(my first one ever), on a Gold Mepps Aglia at the very end of the day. Eventually, it came down to the color of the spinner. They catch bass, but I want to be able to cover water and you can't with these things. Oh and they feel like logs when you pull them in too.
Strip one bead off the main shaft of the the wire with pliers and add a split shot, Ive done this with larger musky bucktails, they also have weights like small egg sinkers or rubber core that slide right on too the wire that aren't split shots. On my old channel I made a video of me modifying a spanky bucktail and doing this. Braid like power pro and their version super slick makes everything cast further if you aren't using it already, buy a 7 foot rod and use like 15 lb power pro you should get out pretty far, versus a standard 6 foot bass rod and 10 lb mono, the casting distance should be night and day with 15 lb power pro and a 7 foot stiff bass rod. I mean I know esox are attracted to inline spinners, so I do 20 lb power pro to 40 lb fluoro at kent. I ditched mono and fluorocarbon a long time ago as my main like due to memory and line twists, braid in general works better with inline spinners due to the line twist problem! My one friend used to use stren easy cast back in the day for mono, not sure if they make that anymore though... Hope this helps!
No, but you can or bend wire shaft like 25 degrees to prevent line twist. www.theoutdoorline.com/blog/post/2012/08/31/a-trick-that-reduces-line-twist-on-spinners.aspx www.coloradofisherman.com/threads/tip-to-reduce-line-twist-while-using-an-inline-spinner.54729/
Why are you trying to dismantle and make a hack for a lure that has been tried and true for 40 years from Mepps? Then you damage it? By the way: Mepps already makes in line spinner with a ewg hook?
Because you're adding in more aciton, scent, texture, and color to a hard bait that is rather just boring, a soft plastic bait can add more attraction just like a soft plastic trailer can add more attraciton to a chatterbait. Yes, chatterbait works great as is, so does a skirted jig... This is why fishermen add soft plastic trailers to them, you add more Your bringing out more characteristics of the bass when they're hunting or even when they're not hunting and have lock jaw. As I told the one story of my child hood, I had a friend that always crushed me bass fishing, but when I made this mepps hybrid bait up, I couldn't keep the bass off my bait, and he wasn't catching anything. To this day, that experience has stuck with me up until my 40s, I'm 39 now. Do your own experiments and you might come to a similar conclusion, you can make a bait that's already deadly, a lot deadlier!
