Do you cut your plastic off like that to shorten the profile?? I like to do that sometimes myself. But to fatten it up by forcing the inside skirt and stay flared out just a little bit more. I found back in the 90’s makes a little bit deferent then the other 100 that fish as seen go by. Can get the big bite or a lot more bites. Just wondering what your thoughts on on it.
I took advantage of the fishing line coupon code through Omnia Fishing. I found their shipping to be much faster than BP or TW (4 days from order to door). Thanks for the code!
Just wanted to comment and thank you. I used to fish as a child over 30 years ago. The biggest thing I ever caught was a little sunfish, and always dreamed of catching a largemouth bass. Never happened. A few months ago I bought a house on a small lake and never thought to fish it. My treasure of a wife surprised me with a little fishing kit as a way to decompress after work. I wasn't have any luck for a week straight and was getting frustrated. I found your content and did a deep dive into what I was doing wrong and decided to use a spinner bait with your recommended setup for murky water and at 36 years old, I fulfilled my childhood dream of catching a largemouth bass. I know it's not a big deal for most folk, but I am grateful that you put so much into these videos to help complete beginners to get their feet wet and have an idea of what works for your situation.
Reading ur comment made me smile with much happiness for u and ur catching ur first real fish. Id assume ur hooked for the rest of ur life. U get so much good from fishing i i believe. Mind body and soul will be healthier from fishing. Especially once one realizes fishing isnt exactly about catching fish. There is so much more one gains from a days fishing. Catching a fish or two is simply a nice bonus to something thats already great truely. I think most fishermen would agree and i think ull understand one day soon if u dont already. Tight lines to ya!
Pretty good video. A few things I would like to add. I am a retired small lure manufacturer. My specialty is spinnerbaits. One I disagree with using the treble hook for as a trailer hook. I noticed you were using a spinnerbait collar to secure the trailer hook to the main hook. You were using the open hole. If you were going to use a spinnerbait collar which works well, you should turn it sideways and punch it through the material. Using the pre-made hole will allow that hook to ride up on the main hook. Sometimes you'll even lose the hook. You'll never have a good Target for the bass if they biteb.short. If you rigged it the way I just suggested you would never need to use a treble hook. I almost never miss a fish when they strike short the way I rig my trailer hook. Second, when you were building the spinnerbait, you should put a bead on the wire shaft before you put your first inside blade. The bead helps keep junk from catching on the clevis. One other great tip you didn't mention was yo-yoing a spinnerbait. Usually a single Colorado blade with a short arm works best for this. I don't even think many manufacturers make a short arm single bladed bait. You can take one of your own and cut the wire down yourself and re-loop your swivel on. you can yo-yo from shallow water to deep walking the bait down. Also great for working ledges deep. Caught a lot of bass yo-yoing a spinner bait like a jig. I'm up in NY and I fish a lot of clear water. I always add some type of soft plastic trailer to my spinner bait even in the ultra clear water. The added plastic helpes the bass to inhale the spinnerbait. using just a skirt is usually not enough. You will definitely get more hookups with some type of plastic trailer. Depending on the water clarity, I can use a variety of plastics most of the time. I use some type of swim bait trailer or a split tail trailer. The spinnerbait is a truly versatile lure and there's so many more ways to use it. You could not cover it all in one video. Thanks for making the video. You gave a lot of great tips.
The 3/8 war eagle in that color is my go to, except i use a z man paddlerz in Houdini as a trailer in most scenarios. I like the slightly less aggressive kick the smaller paddle tail makes, especially in cold front conditions. Im also able to keep the bait a little deeper without slowing waaaay down. Now im thinking a swimming senko would work great too. Great video!
Everything this guy said, I already do! And it's spot on for sure! I thought I was a little crazy until I started looking at more videos. Excellent advice!
Thank you for another detailed, informative video! I consider myself to be an advanced bass angler and I always learn something that I can apply to improve my own fishing. Thank you for the hard work you invest in this channel and going way beyond the same old information that gets repeated and recycled on most fishing channels.
I caught my largest crappie on a 3/8 ounce white bass spinnerbait. I let it fall then reel up off bottom. Was in 12 ft of water and a 3lb. 16 inch crappie hit it.
This video makes me want to get out and fish spinner baits. I feel they are heavily used and tend to try other baits, forgetting they are heavily used because they are very effective at catching quality bass and numbers of bass. Thanks for another great video.
We burn spinnerbaits up in New Hampshire, Lake Winnipesaukee. Buldge the water, chartreuse colorado small and willow trailor and watch the fish come at it like torpedoes. 20' of water, doesnt matter, rip it! Cloudy, overcast, with a little wind, all summer long.
From the Boston area. Visited wolfboro a couple years back and loved it can’t wait to come back up to the lake this summer. Can you let me know where I can rent/charter a boat up there?
No bs, I watched this videos a couple months ago, was out on the water yesterday swapping from a fluke, to a jig, to a jerkbait, to an underspin and got nothing, and in the last 45 minutes before the sun went down, I put on a spinnerbait and remembered this video of tryna get it as close to the wood as you can, and I hooked into 4 fish, and missed a bite and 3 others in that 45 minutes, ganna be fishing a spinnerbait way more now. Thank you for the tips within this video to help me gain confidence in this bait
@BassFishingHQ went on the water today with the buddy, and straight up learned how to skip a lure from this video, idk how but I just watch how you do everything and I can mimic it, I don’t know how my brain does it, but I straight up learned to skip a spinner bait, I don’t have any 4.8in but I got 3.75 and it works just as good, never could skip a lure until today. And I was doing it kind of consistent, another day on the water and I’ll have it down
I watched this video a couple of days ago and gave that exact ( or very close) setup in the thumbnail a try the next day, since the usual Senko bite was off. I think I caught me biggest SM of the season after a few dozen casts. More testing will be in order, but thanks for the video! FB, Northern Ontario.
When i was a kid in the late 70s, i started fishing IN- LINE spinners, and later on with tandems. And even with the in-lin , some of the biggest bass ive ever caught , was on spinners !
Spinnerbaits are one of my favorites. I've caught more bass on spinners and roostertails than anything else. Still I learn a lot from this video and am looking forward to putting to use. I also love to use jig spinners, they're hard to beat for catching red-eye and even work with smallmouth too.
Thank you so much. I think this will help me build confidence with a spinnerbait which I hardly use. Hell, I didn't even catch a fish on it last year until AUGUST because I was so busy reverting to my #1: an underspin swimbait. I now know all the specialized uses for this lure. I'm still going to love dragging an underspin across every kind of cover and bottom, but I am anxious to try what you shared.
Well, you opened up your video by showing a legend. Clunn is known as the Crankmeister, but a lot of folks don't realize the success he's had with a spinnerbait
Man made me think about ole days here in pa we fish the northern part of the Susquehanna and growing up fishing with my grandfather the only thing we used were bucktails that he used to tie and grubs on a jig head it wasn’t till 2017 when I finally bought my first baitcaster it opened my world to lures I thought were for musky or bigger fish witch now I know are bass lures but at the time fishing bucktails that are small I would of never thought I could catch fish on these lures so crazy
I like the way you present almost everything about the bass hobby. On a side topic you may want to address. What could be the optimum combos of braid to mono or flouro. Given on the specific diameters of when connect thru a given type of knot. Maybe 4 or more knots for stats. Results found on strength. line breakage, either type. etc. Just a thought to ponder over.
I have basically replaced spinnerbaits with chatterbaits, micro Alabama rigs, and underspin swimbaits and I feel like I haven't missed out on catching fish or even trophy bass bites.
My favorite Spinnerbait going back years ago was the Blue Fox Chartuse with a Trailer Hook. Unfortunately it has been Discontinued for years. A slow dissenting retrieve seemed to work the best. With a 5 1/2 ft Pistal Grip Spinnerbait Rod for Accuracy. This is in the California Delta. A 1000 miles of waterway and you can get lost. 👀
if you trim the arm 1/4"-1/2" it will put the blades closer to skirt and get the hook more exposed and this is ok in grass which I tend to burn thru and not use a trailer hook = improves the hook up ratio greatly = to keep the bait up if slower retrieves are needed but keeping the bait near surface add a trailer similar to Chatterbaits ... just adds a small sinking resistance but not enough to slow it down too much
From one tyler to another you must come back up to michigan and meet me at lake orion for some bass fishing its a lake with a lot of points a pockets i grew up on it. Iv fished higgins before and it is very clear like 20-30ft visibility while torch lake is not too far away with really nice turquiose water.
Each angler, whether professional or amateur, will find their own way to use it. I only use painted blades regardless of the season, even in clear water.
Hello Mr Ty... I was hoping you could show us how you do your braided split rings... what knot to tie... and how you attach the treble hooks to say... a glide bait?
Skipping that spinner bait like a boss. I think that is so damn cool. I have been practicing, but its not looking good as you do it. Damn it. Show off. 😂 Love your content bro, been a fan for a few years now. Keep uo the good work. Tight lines always.
When I’m not throwing a chatterbait lol my go to is the war eagle in the mouse color and if I wanna fish one with a trailer I go to the 6th divine spinnerbait and depending my water color day determine the color of my spinnerbait
What is your advice for how tight/loose the drag should be set when fishing a spinnerbait? I lost 2 giant smallmouth on Saturday in a tournament, and I am not sure if my drag setting was the issue.
Do you wear that back brace for boat back? I have the same brace, but didn't think it helped. I get boat back really bad...aches top right after fishing about 40 mins unless i sit in the boat seat and lean forward or lean on a rail if I'm dock fishing and supporting my arms and just fishing w/my wrists until I get a hit.
I haven’t been on a killer spinner bait bite in a long time. Honestly though it’s hard to do so when your not throwing it very often. I will say I have been late to the game with a underspin and lately have done very well with it. It is kinda like a spinner bait but that doesn’t count. Weirdly about a month ago I went through all my spinner baits and freshen them up by sharpening hooks and new skirts but yet to throw.
curly tails for muskie are better than paddle tails, Joe Bucker is one of the most famous muskie fishermen but he started out with bass and uses many bass tactics for muskie.
You skip like a boss!! I am really good with a Frisbee but I haven't been able to get this down. I fish out of a V bottom so I feel low. Would a shorter rod help?
I pond crank spinners so fast they run on their side on top the water and believe it or not I've caught allot of bass that way on black with silver spoon lol
Hey buddy been a subscriber for a while now and love the channel. I realize you must live close to me in central Ohio. I live in grove city, just south of Columbus. Im strictly a bank angler only. I mainly fish small lakes/quarry’s and I’m struggling pretty hard right now. Been throwing a jerkbaits, chatterbaits, small swim baits on a ball head jig and a lipless are pretty much what I have been throwing lately. I’m limited on we’re I’m fishing because there’s only a few decent small lakes I can bank fish, do you have any suggestions on what I should change up and not asking for specific spots but anywhere in our area you could recommend to me just fishing from the bank.. oh yea the 2 or 3 places I have been fishing the last couple weeks are pretty clear bodies of water, maybe a little stain but not much. Sorry for the long post I’m just struggling and could use some tips
That right handle reel is affecting you being productive while pitching that spinnerbait. Switch to a left handle and you'll be more productive and catch more fish. You're right hand dominant, so you need a left handed reel. Takes a few hours to do the switch.
I don’t have issues with switching. By the time the bait hits the water I am good to go. I understand the principle behind what you are saying but I’ve never missed or lost a fish because of switching in the air
I fish ponds at my local golf course and I love the spinner baits . The bass in the ponds tend not want them what should I try with my spinner to get them to bite?
I think often times there isn’t a best trailer. So many guys have success with different trailers. I think it’s just good to have something back there to help draw that bait into the fish mouth
It’s so strange how the fishing techniques change once you get east of the Colorado River. In San Diego the fishing is a bit more like Japan fishing. But the spinnerbait is a player here for sure.
I'm a West Coast Floridian and never tried using a spinner bait at night for Snook on the West Coast. Tried it during the day but know luck out here however ima keep in mind at night.
if you notice a lot of fish hitting it with mouth closed. its simple.. they are trying to stun it to eat it.. so as you burn it. stop burning it for a pause. and then those fish will hit with mouth open. dont forget pauses with any bait.
I love your channels. Always some useful info. But I get so overwhelmed with info, when I get on the water I cant make up my mind😂. How much does it cost for lessons? I learn so much better hands on lol
Totally forgot to add them...thanks for letting me know. SPINNERBAITS Mentioned: Covert Series - rebrand.ly/w6wd2y9 War Eagle - rebrand.ly/45c9moz Power Blade - rebrand.ly/h2hermm
I say it every yr and never do is burning it always hear guys talk about it but I never do but I’ll have to wait till summer or late spring for that lol being in in pa and the weather sucks here witch I’m sure you know being from Ohio you guys prolly get it worst than I do from the lake effect
@@BassFishingHQ 😂, Thank you for spinnerbait lesson, I suck at spinners. It was a pleasure to meet you, I was hanging around with Wendell at the Ohio Expo. I was in need of some fishing gloves for awhile.
Shout out to the 🐐, Mr Clunn, winning the elite series tournament at St John's River with back to back 9lbers on a spinner bait, in the clip at the beginning of this video, Breaking his own record for the oldest person to ever win an elite series event.
I prefer to fish a spinnerbait on a spinning reel and it makes it so much easier to skip, and I never need to worry about backlash so I can just keep hammering them and pulling them in and hammering them and put them in and flick in and skipping and tossing and....
Is your trolling motor truly moving that fast, or is the footage sped up. It looks like you’re moving quickly. That’s something that NO ONE talks about that can dramatically effect the retrieve of any bait that’s thrown.
I can't tell you how jealous I am about anglers that can skip. I've tried the practice sessions with a skipping jig and I manage to get 1 out of 10 the correct way...lol
I wouldn’t say they are better or worse. Bass fishing is all situational. There are a lot of guys who prefer a single Colorado during the winter months..other guys who like a double willow. Sometimes it doesn’t matter and sometimes it does. Just got to experiment when you are on a spinnerbait bite
there is no substitute for live bait....... what he is talking about with ripping and popping/flare is mimicking bait fish that are feeding...you want them to look frenzied in what they are eating, soooo busy feeding they don't know the big bad predator is in their vicinity. when you are ripping and the blades break the surface, what you are mimicking is bait fish that are in fear of this lives trying to be difficult to be eaten.... so much so they are willing to go out of the surface and expose themselves to aerial predators many of which are hawks and eagles, this is one of the signs those birds look for when there aren't much carp or suckers or panfish and bullheads. birds of prey want to dive down, not get wet if they can avoid it, but will for the right meal in the right conditions such as shallows very close by they can limp flap drag dinner to a dinner table platform. so where you find predator birds hunting is a great indicator, where you find bait fish fleeing for their lives is a good indicator, and where you see bait fish feeding aka flashing in those flare swarms tipping side ways getting grubs from the bed floor and mayfly larvae and dragon fly larvae as well as mosquito larvae..... food is by season mimic what is plentiful in the season you are in because that's what the fish are targeting in their searches. you wouldn't work hard for a meal if you didn't have to right? alot of techniques you need to master is what the bait does. walleye kill their food with a kill bite before they eat it an they watch it making sure it is dying before they eat it alot of the time, not all the time, they will pursue, they are a fish...but that's a competition vs. hunger pang effect. pike & muskies will look for things like that...wounded larger fish, like perch or sunfish and you can entice them with death throes in early spring. they also eat baby ducks and loons...color and size matters the more real it looks and moves and acts....they great chance you will gain their feeding interest....the pop flare once again " not paying attention to predators and stayed away from the flock " easy target.

Very good point. Night with spinnerbaits is super fun, although super hard to shoot video of

I even bounce them on the bottom too
Pretty awesome Tyler. Can you show your rod and how you set up the reel for skipping?

No I definitely have in early spring. There is just something about that thump in cold water that the bass love

I will say I have been late to the game with a underspin and lately have done very well with it. It is kinda like a spinner bait but that doesn’t count. Weirdly about a month ago I went through all my spinner baits and freshen them up by sharpening hooks and new skirts but yet to throw.
for muskie we use chatruese blades, in line #5 but slow like he says, just fast enough for blade to spin
curly tails for muskie are better than paddle tails, Joe Bucker is one of the most famous muskie fishermen but he started out with bass and uses many bass tactics for muskie.
A wobble head is one ive been waiting for someone to talk about bro, its one of the best power fishing lures people are forgetting about
Great lure! I use quite a different technique though
I like fishing its spinner baits but here in Florida it just doesn’t seem to work past the winter months.
You make me want to get my boat out of storage. Lol. Quick question.. what knot do you use to tie the spinnerbait ?
In this video I was using a double pitzen mostly
Love it. Do you think bass key on orange in FL? I’ve never had a ton of luck down here on orange but I’d like your opinion.
I wouldn’t be surprised if an orange blade in Florida resembles a shiner a little bit in that dark water. So that would make sense to me
When you're pitching the spinner bait in the same places as a jig are you using a heavier rod?
Great tips .. I wish I had half your casting skills 👏🏻💪🏻🎣 Where you located in ohio I’m in N.E Ohio
You skip like a boss!! I am really good with a Frisbee but I haven't been able to get this down.
I fish out of a V bottom so I feel low.
Would a shorter rod help?
Great info 👍
I pond crank spinners so fast they run on their side on top the water and believe it or not I've caught allot of bass that way on black with silver spoon lol
Most excellent video!! Top notch
@@BassFishingHQ Gotcha. Reaction time on your dominant hand or arm is quicker and more sensitive than non dominant hand/arm. Tight Lines
Lucky for me I am left handed, so no issues with that. Only issue I have is finding left handed reels. Usually have to order them online
@@22mpb yup I order mine
I'm a right hand vato but prefer using left hand bait casting and spinning reels. Works better for me but to each it's own style.
Can I let a spinner fall to deep (20ft) bottom and slow roll like an A-rig?
It was nice to see you in person at ohio fishing expo please make a video about fishing on the bank or pond
I fish ponds at my local golf course and I love the spinner baits . The bass in the ponds tend not want them what should I try with my spinner to get them to bite?
I fish golf courses too and I found they love smaller shad colored swim baits
@@mikeaddison4015 How do you get permissions? Many clubs won't even let their own members fish. Thanks.
when you "burn" the spinnerbait are you still using slow reel or do you go up to a 7:1 or 8:1?
Importance of using the right trailer, paddle tail vs curly tail vs bait fish vs fluke?
I think often times there isn’t a best trailer. So many guys have success with different trailers. I think it’s just good to have something back there to help draw that bait into the fish mouth
Great Video! Thanks for the great content!!
It’s so strange how the fishing techniques change once you get east of the Colorado River. In San Diego the fishing is a bit more like Japan fishing. But the spinnerbait is a player here for sure.
For a real treat, throw a big spinnerbait around bridges at night in South Florida and see what 20 and 30 pound snook do to them.
Are these the weights of the baits with or without the blades 🤔
They are typically just the size of the lead part of the spinnerbait
That’s why I like 6th spinnerbaits too they have that screw lock
Tyler, I really like the sweatshirt you had on. Where can I pick one up? As always thanks for the Spinner Bait lesson man!
The Black Sweat Shirt, it looked like possible Mega Bass Apparel. TY
@@bmwstan1 it is from MonsterBass - monsterbass.com/collections/hoodies-outerwear/products/monsterbass-nation-hoodie
I love your channels. Always some useful info. But I get so overwhelmed with info, when I get on the water I cant make up my mind😂. How much does it cost for lessons? I learn so much better hands on lol
Do you use fast or moderate fasts action stick?
he has extra fast in this video
How do you not snag up throwing so close to wood?
I don't see a link to purchase those spinner baits. They look effective.
Totally forgot to add them...thanks for letting me know.

I say it every yr and never do is burning it always hear guys talk about it but I never do but I’ll have to wait till summer or late spring for that lol being in in pa and the weather sucks here witch I’m sure you know being from Ohio you guys prolly get it worst than I do from the lake effect
I always get hung up in wood with everything I throw in there. You must have some kind of magic or something.😂👍
You should come out to our OPEN Tournament at Brookeville Lake, IN, Tyler. April 6, 2024. Cincinnati Bassmasters
Supports youth fishing
You forgot the No. 1 tip!
When burning spinners, wear FINN GLOVES for hand protection!! 😂
100%
Btw you are the juice! I appreciate it!
Is your trolling motor truly moving that fast, or is the footage sped up. It looks like you’re moving quickly. That’s something that NO ONE talks about that can dramatically effect the retrieve of any bait that’s thrown.
I just bought a rocket shad, on sale for 2.68
I can't tell you how jealous I am about anglers that can skip. I've tried the practice sessions with a skipping jig and I manage to get 1 out of 10 the correct way...lol
I was today years old when I first heard of Bruin reels?!?!?!?!?! 😮
Is a single blade better than a double blade?? I like using only a single blade.
Nice video.
Damn bro u skipping the spinnerbait like it's a senko on a spinning rod
Watch his video on how to skip! WOW!
All year long, during the spring 😅
Did you actually film spinner bait content in three different seasons with this video in mind?! 😯
I did!
definitely not the last
You said 54 degree water temperature, I take it either this isn’t in Ohio or this is an older video from a different time period?
there is no substitute for live bait....... what he is talking about with ripping and popping/flare is mimicking bait fish that are feeding...you want them to look frenzied in what they are eating, soooo busy feeding they don't know the big bad predator is in their vicinity.
when you are ripping and the blades break the surface, what you are mimicking is bait fish that are in fear of this lives trying to be difficult to be eaten.... so much so they are willing to go out of the surface and expose themselves to aerial predators many of which are hawks and eagles, this is one of the signs those birds look for when there aren't much carp or suckers or panfish and bullheads. birds of prey want to dive down, not get wet if they can avoid it, but will for the right meal in the right conditions such as shallows very close by they can limp flap drag dinner to a dinner table platform.
so where you find predator birds hunting is a great indicator, where you find bait fish fleeing for their lives is a good indicator, and where you see bait fish feeding aka flashing in those flare swarms tipping side ways getting grubs from the bed floor and mayfly larvae and dragon fly larvae as well as mosquito larvae..... food is by season mimic what is plentiful in the season you are in because that's what the fish are targeting in their searches. you wouldn't work hard for a meal if you didn't have to right?
alot of techniques you need to master is what the bait does.
walleye kill their food with a kill bite before they eat it an they watch it making sure it is dying before they eat it alot of the time, not all the time, they will pursue, they are a fish...but that's a competition vs. hunger pang effect.
pike & muskies will look for things like that...wounded larger fish, like perch or sunfish and you can entice them with death throes in early spring. they also eat baby ducks and loons...color and size matters the more real it looks and moves and acts....they great chance you will gain their feeding interest....the pop flare once again " not paying attention to predators and stayed away from the flock " easy target.
