Gotta say i really appreciate you adding the names of the clips you show! I would otherwise go mad not knowing what is being shown. Have been really loving your approach to world building and the passion you bring to it 🙂
Cheese to feed the algorithm 🧀🧀🧀 15:21 I initially heard "Hello I'm Joriam I'm a _Bazillion_ fantasy writer." and for half a second I though, "Wow that's a lot of fantasy."
I just got a notif for this and it seems I didn't the first time you uploaded so... I am leaving a comment so that the TH-cam algorithm shows this video some love ...
I rarely anylize stories to that degree, don't like to. But I can agree with some of your points. What I am after is a well-told tale. Even if the apparent genre is't what I would usually look for
Really loved the video! I find that my favourite media makes me feel a mixture of Sensation, Discovery, Fantasy and most importantly Abnegation. Like I am a powerful wizard that can take revenge on those who wronged her through extreme magic methods yes... but I am also a fantasy reader and can predict what is going to happen to a certain degree... even though the narrative is still engaging and the discovery aspect of the world and it's rules is very powerful, this sense of security even in a unfamiliar environment is what makes me come back to a book and call it a favourite (I don't usually like rereading books). I like books where I can understand, not only how the world functions but also the characters Psyche. I suppose that the real world doesn't really do that for me, so I actually find refuge and logic (as strange as it may sound) in Fantasy.
Loved the video! As much as liked your beautiful earring! Also, finally someone says that fantasy gives way to abnegation, and not escapism. Never managed to put it init a word myself, despite having to defend my liking for video games countless times.
Approaching from the angle of game design is an interesting one! Its always fascinating to see how different medias and mediums can learn from each other
Hey! Your videos are great, all of them 😊 But this one felt particularly insightful, and I will definitely try to apply that framework when thinking about the stories I enjoy to see what I can learn from it. It looks like it's gonna be pretty instructive! Also, I've always felt like Star Wars was a little bit more fantasy-like than other sci-fi stories, but I couldn't put my finger on why until now, so thank you!
I’m glad you reuploaded this because I missed it the first time and really enjoyed it. I do like your approach to writing from a key emotion perspective. though I don’t think it needs to replace genre, awareness of it should definitely influence how we write and craft story. I know your work here has helped me understand a new facet of the craft. Hopefully that will come across in my work someday. Game design was definitely a good rabbit hole to fall through here! Lots of useful things to learn
Thank you, Draco :) Genre is a tough one for me - how can Alice in Wonderland and The Fifth Season belong together? But alas, this is not yet the hill I'll die on haha
Just leaving a comment to show my appreciation of your videos. Although some personal issues keep me from doing many things I really like right now (like reading and writing), I hope that will change in the future. I definitely think that your videos have given me a new perspective on many aspects of writing and worldbuilding, so thank you for that!
Thanks for taking the time to write this comment :) and hey, sometimes we go through phases, right? it's ok if it's not a good moment to read and write, whenever you get back to them, they'll greet you like an overexcited puppy Hope to see you around the channel!
Finally had the time to watch this one, lovely video as always! You always make my emotions bloom with your analysis! I'm specially fond of the game design bits, I was never that much of a gamer, but I always enjoyed them as a tool for storytelling, so seeing you tie both concepts together was very satisfying! 💜
Here is a suggestion (not sure if too soon for it to work), but what about a video exploring "Over the Graden Wall"? It fits right in with the season and Halloween feel, and seem like something up to your speed.
This is an interesting video. The fantasy story I'm currently written has some "portal fantasy" elements. Mainly, the fantasy world connects to Earth via a portal. My main character is sent to the fantasy realm to attend an academy where she'll learn magic. Unlike Harry, there's no "yer a wizard" type reveal. My MC knows about magic, but living on Earth is different from living in the fantasy realm. A big reason I set my story in a fantasy realm was to distinguish my idea from Harry Potter. I do have to say that the portals have been one of the hardest parts of my worldbuilding to develop. They need to be balanced so they don't become OP like other fantasy portals (Marvel).

Thank you! I really appreciate it :) I was just rewatching this to bring some of that old passion to a new video (with even MORE PASSION! AAAA)

I gotta say that applying game design theory to books is genuinely interesting, I feel like it is a really strong lense to apply!

I loved this, a very interesting exploration of the concept 😁
As always you’ve given me much to think about.
good to see you around, Jeff :) would love to hear your thoughts

Hey Cah :) thanks for letting me know! I'll try to bring more game design elements from time to time.
Here is a suggestion (not sure if too soon for it to work), but what about a video exploring "Over the Graden Wall"? It fits right in with the season and Halloween feel, and seem like something up to your speed.
Awnsering the last question there: Yes! I love game design, and seeing it used as a tool for general storytelling is so interesting.
Thank you! I'm always trying to bring game design to my videos, but I must admit it hasn't been very... popular!
Very much enjoyed game design theory given expanded or alternate application.

another great vid :D
starting with gris and journey as your first examples sold me
Hard to beat those guys huh? hehehe
Have you tried Abzu?
Awesome video man! Keep going!
game design for everything!
✨💖✨
Wait what.
Deja vu...
¿Reupload?
Yeah! Sorry, previous upload had a mistake and took me a while to figure it out.
EnGaGeMeNt
I hear that undertale song but like those music box or some kind of lofi.
Yes! You heard right :) All soundtrack credits are in the description of the vid, if you wanna check it out!
Interesting, if its entirely mechanical then could you provide schematics for 3d print?
I check the credits but none for tge thumbnail, is tgere a way i could get that thumbnail.... Please 😢
You very quickly messed by confusing fantasy with fiction.
