- Thailand’s new Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says the country’s cannabis policy will need to be rewritten to only allow usage for medical purposes. He spoke with Bloomberg’s Haslinda Amin.

Prepare for a dip in tourism. Pot is giving Thailand a competitive edge with other SEA countries. If they ban recreational pot many visitors will just go to neighboring Malaysia, Cambodia, Bali, Vietnam or The Philippines which not only has nice beaches too but also cheaper. Having clear rules for consumers to follow and educating the public on responsible use is the answer not making it medical only.
Maybe not Malaysia, it's still cheap but not nearly as much as Thailand. Does also have beaches but to be honest many of them are quite dirty and tourism is not really that great in the country. I live in Malaysia and work here so have had quite a lot of first hand experience

As a smoker, medical use only just means you will have to get a "medical card" provided by an approved Doctor here.
As a retailer, you'll just have to get a Thai Traditional Medicine Licensee at your shop.

As of today you cannot smoke in public or even in a dispensary but the police gets paid and they look somewhere else.

Anutin (ex health minister) who legalized cannabis is now the deputy prime minister and the minister of interior. The Ministry of Interior oversees the health ministry. It's even better because he doesn't have to take shit now (he took a lot of shit when he was the health minister) and be the puppeteer who controls from behind. We talked to our guys at the health ministry, and everyone kept their position, no shuffling. They are all ppl from the Bhumjai Thai party that legalized weed.

Bhumjaithai who legalized weed is a conservative party. Do not confuse western political scheme with Thailand.
You can't take his words for it. He needs quite a big voting support from ones who liberalized and making money from canabis
His Party (second winning) , and Kao klai , the first winning, both of them said in their campaign that they will only allow it for medical use, so majority of Thai people want that way, only some Canabis business owners who want it to be free everywhere. The party that have campaign about liberalized Canabis is Pum jai Thai, the third winning.
This will hurt many small business owners and workers in Thailand

I live in Thailand and I haven't seen or met anybody that came to Thailand for weed 🤦🏻♂️ Sure some (very small percentage of Thailands tourists) use it while they're here but no one is booking a trip to Thailand solely to smoke weed 😂 wake up old bloke
Based on the few interactions I've had in Phuket this summer with the locals, I have to say that they definitely support what Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin says here. It seems that cannabis shops have replaced many of the pharmacies that used to be there. I don't wanna judge, but it seems that making it completely legal draws the wrong crowd. I love Phuket and I love Thailand. Keep it clean, keep it safe and keep it beautiful. It's one of the most beautiful places I've had the privilege of visiting. I'm an American expat living full time in Asia.

It's dishonest to say "If alcohol is allowed then so should cannabis" because then there's a large list of other drugs that can be used for the same argument, "If cannabis is allowed then so should cocaine" and so on.. using alcohol as an argument for cannabis is just a manipulative technique, playing victim to get your own grubby way. If you were honest about comparing the 2 substances, you would be arguing for them both to be banned and not for them both to be allowed.

Our laws are not strong enough to control them ..such as people over 20 years of age. My country is not ready and not suitable to have cannabis!
If the new Prime Minister bans the cannabis, then I feel more safe to travel again to Thailand. Thailand used to be a non- drug country but after those greedy past leaders signed to regulate real drug to Thailand, I do not feel safe to visit this wonderful country again until now.
