A PM which did not win an election.. A government in place not for the people... Srettha does seem level headed for the interview, but a clear message was sent by the majority of Thais during the election, yet still there is a persistence of political games to oust any opposition... I do hope that it will improve..

No prime minister wins an election in a parliamentary system, unless you’re talking about a legislative election in which the person who would become prime minister runs as a candidate for another office, in which case he really stands out as he isn’t or wasn’t a member of parliament at the same time or before taking this executive office. But that’s not a rigged pathway either as he would still need to be voted in by parliament. Preventing a political party from forming a coalition government is also democratically legitimate. Many European countries are doing this to keep anti-establishment parties out of any possible coalition government. Just look at Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands right now. Do you see the highest-polling party in power?

Because Kookkai Party hadn't get majority in Thai Parliament. So that PTP has been legitimately to establish coalition government.

Dear Matt, Thailand has fantastic and cheap barbershops, nice tailors, ( they can even show you how to properly learn how to tie a tie), and relax you sound like someone conducting a job interview! 🙂

An unelected prime minister talking about democracy is a complete joke.

@Wilko11 He's also the Finance Minister, so what is your point? The Thai people voted for the man they wanted as PM, and instead of honoring democracy corrupt, power-hungry politicians conspired to deny the people the democracy they deserve. If Pheu Thai was loyal to the people, they would have remained with MFP and fought against corruption. Like I said, BIG JOKE.

No prime minister is elected in a parliamentary system except in Israel between 1996 and 2001. The people elected legislators who in turn elected the prime minister on their behalf. Democracy does not mean you cannot be deceived and betrayed by politicians. It just means that politicians have to be freely elected. Tony Blair did not consult the electorate before invading Iraq in 2003. Did that make the United Kingdom an undemocratic country then? You may say Thailand is not a democracy but it’s not a non-democracy because the prime minister is not elected.

@@purinat_sunThe people did not elect 250 senators btw. It was hand picked.
The votes that was asked for approval of these hands picked senators was also a trick question with double questions statement inside.

You don’t have to tell me that. I’m well aware of what happened in my country. Moreover than that, it still doesn’t change the fact that the incumbent prime minister was unelected because prime ministers are not elected in a parliamentary system; they are appointed by the parliament which in turn is elected by the people. Had the current constitution been democratically adopted in a free and fair plebiscite, his appointment would have been completely legitimate. Be noted that the OP said the prime minister was unelected, not that the election of the would-be prime minister was stolen. I was addressing the former, not the latter. Therefore, your argument is irrelevant.

That was prosperous 9 years, it has been democratic people has right to talk to do whatsoever under Thai laws. Economic was much better, it seems this gov doesn't know how to manage the country. The fact is that many Pheuthai supporters complained so much, they didn't expect thing could be worsen to this point under their preferred gov.😢
