Watching old videos on my down time.Never seen them prepared that way.Usually mouth and deadman taken off before cooking.More than one way to prepare a blue crab
I live in FL and have caught many a blue crab. We'd use long handled dip nets and stand on bridges and dip up the crabs as they ride the tide on top of the water. We caught hundreds of crabs this way.
Florida has quite a bit of crabbing going on. There’s a few channels on YT that showcase that. I’m fascinated that you were able to just net them right out without any bait it looked like.
Beautiful dish and better atmosphere. I used to catch blue crabs in West Palm Beach Sofla as a boy, theyre really good and very pretty as well. Cheers!
Yea, I was wondering about that cutting board, lol. You need to get BOOS Block to sponsor your channel, lol. Anyhow, love your videos. Keep'em coming, my friend.
Great video Will! Love the crab compilations, especially the cooking. That etufe (sp) looked so good, but the first chili crab dish is going to be a must try. The stuffed dish got me hoping we’d get to see mama clams. Thanks for sharing!!!
Did you know that the rustier coloring on the bottoms of the crabs the more meat they have? That chili crab looked so delicious. All 3 recipes looked amazingly delicious!
This Compilation was great , cheers for this video , question .... Will there be another Iron Chef cook off maybe this time with TugTrash ? take care an be safe see ya next week
Just a lil FYI. Look into the amount of blue crabs sold in Maryland that actually come from Texas and Maryland😂.Gulf coast crabs are the best! We don't ruin them with old Nae either
A lot of them come from Louisiana. The main reason is because from December-April we don’t have a crabbing season in Maryland. The water is too cold and they bury themselves in the mud and go into a hibernation mode. That’s why they are good here in the fall. They get nice and fat before they go stagnant for the winter. Also most crabs here are seasoned with J.O. Spice not old bay. And I grew up in Florida and the crabs here in Maryland are 100% better in the fall than they are in the gulf.
Crabs go through the same cycle on the gulf coast when water cools off. It is a pride thing. Having been in the comercial seafood industry for over 30 yrs you can take 3 blue crabs from anywhere in the world and put them infront of any person and no one can tell the difference. Kind of like saying a flounder in north carolina taste different from a florida or texas flounder. Totaly different cooking styles boiling verse steamed does make them different though thats why maryland can market so many imported crabs and no one is the wiser to it. Only real difference is at this point i would prefer gulf coast crab over Chesapeake because that bay is sooooo poluted iam surprised they have not shut down more consumption of the seafood. The amount of sewage dumped into that bay is staggering not to mention all the other stuff. Yes Gulf has polution as well but it is alot bigger body of water that seems to cut the levels more on some seafood. @gonzalomanriquezjr864
@@mdv2043 if has actually been cleaned up and is a lot healthier than it used to be. Mostly due to a big push in oysters in the bay. But honestly most crabs that are caught in Maryland rarely leave the state. But I don’t buy them. It’s $2 for a recreational crabbing license. $2 a bushel is better than $200 a bushel if you buy them.
Another great video!! You must be racking up airline miles!! Question..we will be traveling between Boston and Wareham next week and are not from the area. Any recommendations for must stop seafood eats along the water. I know a lot of places aren't open yet but figured I would ask!! Since we can't get to Greenpoint! Thanks as always!
Will the things you call the dead man fingers on a crab they are really called filters that's what I was told I am from New Jersey I go craving all the time in the summer and I make a lot of crab 🦀 cakes
I'm enjoying this video but in the segment where the crabs are very lethargic, I'd not keep any of those crabs because they MAY be suffering from the effects of red tide.
Will I love your channel I wish I could come and eat what you cook! When you are down in Key West you should drive up toDania it’s just south of Fort Lauderdale. There’s a place called the rustic Inn crab House. They have the best garlic crabs ever I’ve been eating there since probably 1960 something I don’t live there anymore though they are a bit pricey, but they’re well worth it.
I must have stepped away from the video for a second because I don't remember you cracking the claws to let that flavor inside the claws... DID U...??? TNX 4 VID LOL
Great video. I love the cooking out on the beach. The noise isn't noise it's "ambience" to the experience. Great job
Haha yes

So cool
It was a first for me too!
Good to sea clams, catching and cooking. Best of the 2020's #1

I want to do that chili recipe again but with lobster tails
The smile of satisfaction tells the chili crab flavor story!
I want to do it with lobster
@@CookingWithClams, I’ve done something very similar with slipper lobster tails and fresh tomatoes. Ate it over spaghetti. Very, very good!
What a great video, good to see you back in the keys or not 👍✌️

Rusty bellies!
@@CookingWithClams Yep. When they are rusty they haven't shed their shell for quite a while, which means more delicious meat.
Algo
We get them in the peace river in sw fla, coming from the gulf up into Charlotte harbor and into the river
We used to get them in such numbers here
Cool

@@CookingWithClams ya there is a big amount of " maryland" crabs sold that acually come from lousiana and texas

What I've noticed is some males have dark red claws so you have to turn them over to see if it's female or not.
Ah I’ve never seen a male with red claws but yes the apron or bib is the definitive way to tell the sex
Where is your Toadfish folding cutting board????
This was before I got it!
I need one of those pole nets, the one with the black net. What's it called?
I’ll have to look, thing is crazy, it extends to like 20 feet. If you google telescopic crab net a few come up
@@CookingWithClams cool, thanks
