Have played over 95 times and still enjoying it. Great for travel, for introducing new gamers to the hobby. Later editions added 2-player rules and special cards to support them.
Love this game, only discovered it a month ago and then bought it for my 11yo daughter’s b’day. We must have a slightly newer edition as the colours are far more vibrant and each chameleon is drawn slightly differently so maybe the designers listened to some feedback? I agree, I taught it to my family in a minute and within 2 rounds everyone knew exactly what they were doing and even understood the “push your luck” mechanic. I think it is a fantastic game and wish I’d discovered it earlier. It definitely is a filler for experienced gamers but for our family it was perfect for a “full session” when we sit down for a Sunday arvo game sesh. Teaches the kids about a few different game mechanics, plus risk-reward etc. Nice review, very thorough.
Thanks for this! After playing Coloretto and loving it, I was disappointed with Zooloretto because it just felt like a more bloated and diluted version of Coloretto. Can't wait to watch the companion video for mini.
It's up too! Same time. Based on what you said, I strongly recommend you check out Zooloretto Mini as potentially the best of both worlds. (For others, it'd be the worst of both worlds. Such is the curse of the in-between.)
Regarding influencing the game to help another player (spouse). I agree it's a flaw, but I feel that's a plus if you're looking for a family game! The game makes being gentle very easy, and that can help motivate less-skilled players.
the choice generally feels easy to me - the value of another 'good' card is worth the risk of ending up with a small negative from a 'bad' card. Thoughts??
The values are out in the open so some calculation can be done. I still wouldn't say the choice is easy, when you factor in how much cards may be worth to other players. Just my thought. Cheers!

One of my first game in the hobby. Great game, lovely challenge. One of the few games my family keeps bringing to the table, again and again.
Nice video. I particularly enjoyed hearing counter points even if I disagree with them.
Ah - I see Treasure Island on your shelf! I love that game.
Yup! Such a unique game, and whose mechanisms match the setting so marvellously. Just brilliant.
