- Bowman Chrome autographs and rookie cards are some of the most sought after cards in the baseball card world. Rookie cards have been around for decades and are generally a players first cards after debut. Bowman Chrome autos are a relatively new trend that started primarily in 2001 with Albert Pujols. In this video we share our thoughts on Bowman Chrome autos vs rookie cards, our recent pickups, Juan Soto, and much much more!
We won't stop until Scott owns all five Billy Butler Superfractors.
Man, I’d love to know who the other Butler super fans are out there. And if anybody had actually seen those other 5 cards
Let’s make it happen!!!
Fun chat while I sorted. In general, I enjoy cards I pulled more than cards I bought. The Bobby Witt Flagship SP “The Mullet Card” is one of those cards that will be sought after if he turns out to be a super star HOFer.
That is a great image of Witt. Kind of reminds me if true Bichette “players weekend/butt SP from 2020.”
Thanks for checking us out!
My personal luck with ripping is terrible. But you’re right, I do feel attached to the few good ones we’ve pulled.
First time tuning into the pod, great conversations!
Thanks for checking us out!
Damn man I feel like I’ve learned so much from Scott and his videos, really appreciate all of you for this content
Wow, what a great conversation. As someone who is really trying to find their way in this new landscape of card collecting, it's refreshing to see the different perspectives on what to collect and why. I'm in the phase where what I want to chase changes every other week and I'm decided to just focus on my PC first. I was falling into the Rookie chase trap until I started seeing the various numbered autos and SSP's of my favorite players and how unique they are. Great episode fellas... really loving this channel.
Love the discussion guy’s! Great show with great people with tons of knowledge showing some sweet cards! Looking forward to the next discussion!
Thanks for watching!!
🍻🍻
Thanks! But which one of us paid you for this comment?? 😂😂
🍻
@@SpitballinCards Phil of course! Lol 😂
Another fantastic video!
Thanks for the support! 💪🏼
Ty covered this a bit. I think the issue is, the sunk cost of 1st Bowman far exceed those of rookie autos, which is just a function of the % of players that start in the minors and actually made the big leagues.
This is a good point. It’s expensive to get into the first bowman chrome autos. Especially of the hyped, tops draft picks.
Rookie cards can seem like better values, or at least less of a financial risk.
Totally. Once a player is established, a first bowman chrome auto is a big investment. But also probably the safest.
We need to have a drinking game every time ScottieB mentions Mookie Betts
I dunno... It sounds like a great way to get alcohol poisoning 😂.
Thanks for watching!
This sounds fun - but incredibly dangerous!
Juan Soto will look great in pinstripes next year if traded or year after in FA!
I’m not a Yankee fan, but I will be surprised if Soto isn’t on the Yankees in 2025.
It does feel like his most likely long term destination. We’ll see!
Thanks for watching!
Great episode guys! Loved hearing you guys talk about Tatis there at the end. Some really interesting perspectives.
Thanks for checking it out!!🍻🍻
Tatis’ collectibility will be fascinating to watch if he can return to pre-injury/suspension production.
Solid stuff as always. pretty much agree with Scottie's take at 31:00. There is a dilution effect with the non bowman rcs now...there's just too much out there. Two guys jump to mind, Shohei and Jrod. Personally wouldn't buy anything outside of bowman chrome on those guys. There won't be an iconic Mike Trout like (Topps) card for either one of those guys due to the dilution effect. Like Phil, only thing out of Bowman that I will still hunt down are the Topps black parallels. Re: Machado. How good is that guy? Good enough to be putting this years numbers up on a right elbow that is going to need surgery for extensor tendinosis.
I initially leaned RC, but it’s hard to justify it any longer. Soooo many products. It’s almost absurd. The first bowman chrome auto just stands above the rest.
Yep, I think you’ve hit the mail on the head. Just too many rookie cards.
Thanks for listening!
Phil's the only one that I'm convinced knows what they're talking about
That is funny since I think we are all convinced that Phil doesn't know what he is talking about 😉. Thanks for watching.
Phil definitely seems like the most calm and rational one. He’s the least likely to throw his phone out a window in frustration.
Sorry we had to replace Jeff w/Phil this week...hopefully everyone was still able to enjoy!
I was NOT.
With Phil you get wax and booze. Jeff is just wax.
Great show guys. Love it
Thanks for watching!! 🍻🍻
Thanks!!
Man I love that 2013 Topps Machado card! Do Raw versions of it ever come up for sale?
Chris here - they do, but not very often. Keep at saved search for "2013 Topps Machado Black Jersey"
Good luck!
I like these podcast fellas. 👌
Thank you!!
Thanks for watching!
I agree with Scott. As a collector I couldn’t care less about bowman chrome autos. I wish the rookie card was more recognized since that’s when they’re actually in mlb.
Some collectors collect what they want, other 'collectors' collect what other people want
@@moronsaltable very true!
Super show as always.
Awesome video! What are your thoughts on the camo /25 RC parrallel. Think it holds value since it's an extremely tough pull? Thanks.
It’s impossible to pull! And tough to find in top condition too.
It’s got fans, but the Black parallel has been around longer, has more history. Even though there are more black parallels, I’d probably choose them over the camo.
#/25 will always have some hobby cache, and the ‘18-‘19 designs are so great.
Probably the topps black always stays just ahead.
Love this topic what do you think about a high end patch Cards that are game used from like dynasty
Love your Billy Butler run.
Don’t encourage him!!
I think the judge 9.5 was around 1000. The psa 10 had recently sold for 1380. I was watching that one
1380 good price tbh
Not bad!
Great discussion, but why the comparison between Bowman chrome autos and non-specific RCs? Why not take autos out of the equation and be more specific about which RC we’re talking about. For example, compare Bowman chrome 1st cards with Topps chrome rookie cards? I imagine that may not change much of what was said, but I think it would be a more helpful comparison. Just my opinion. Awesome episode regardless!
Question: which is better, a rookie card on Bowman auto, or Rookie card two years later, signed in pro uniforms. I'm getting a little confused aka CJ Stroud...
University seems to be falling out
Fun discussion. I'm nearly 50, so perhaps it's an age thing, but I have zero interest in Bowman Chrome autos in the context of modern baseball cards. I guess the data says I'm in the minority? 🤷🏽♂
They do feel similar the draft pick rookies from the early 1990’s, but I understand your hesitation.
Just remember, we always used to want the player’s FIRST card, right? Only thing that has changed is the designation. Now the first is a first and the rookie is different.
Are flagship Topps Series 1 or 2, player cards non rookie..worthless? I love having the flagship card, (base card) of a player who won that MVP yr, or Cy Young year... so I just wonder am I alone on this? It's almost like investing or collecting they just throw away any base card... sure you can buy a set for $99, but if your a fan of a team and you really just want Pete Alozo for example... if that card is CGC 10, isn't it worth putting up for auction? As an example..
Show Idea: If you were given $1 million dollars and had to spend it on baseball cards only what would you buy?
And if given another $1 million what basketball cards would you buy other than Jordan Fleer 1996?
So ik sticker autos arent what ppl really want but what do u think ppl would prefer more, rookie card sticker auto or an rookie card IP auto authenticated by bgs psa or sgc? asking cause I won an auction for Mookie 1st bowman chrome auto bgs auth and i cant be more damn happy my fav player
Chris here - it’s rather have the sticker auto in that particular case. I’ll take the pack pulled topps auto.
Your Betsy card - is it the first bowman chrome auto? It the first bowman chrome non auto with an IP Signature?
Betts is a great favorite player to have!
@@SpitballinCards Ok, and its the 1st bowman chrome non auto IP signature in a bgs slab
@@AutoTuneLabs ok, that’s kind of cool.
I’d prefer the actual first bowman chrome auto, obviously. But you’ve still got his first card signed!
@@SpitballinCards I really appreciate the input
Tatis ain’t no julio
The word “collector” is overused. People buy cards because they know if something happens they can love it for more. I don’t call this collecting. Everyone can call themselves collector but in my eyes most people are just long term speculator.
virgin ink > rookie card
Every year I agree with this more
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin I do like me a gold cup rookie tho
@@mikerichards8456 oh yeah!!! Me too. Make it a topps black parallel and 😍😍
Collectors have always a players FIRST card.
Now we’ve got first cards AND rookie cards. It can be confusing.
But first comes first.
@@SpitballinCards even more so if they change their autos
I think RCs are the thing and your Bowman chrome may fade in time,,,,, lets just say Bowman changes there chrome cards bit by bit and 25 years from now the Bowman chrome card is something totally different and nobody wants the new card and nobody knows or cares about todays chrome cards. RCs will always be RCs
