    I work at a radio station/music studio in a 3rd world country and due to costs we bought a x99 kit (known here as chinese dragons) to work with. We paid 1/3 the price of a new current-gen system.
    Our setup has a dual socket huananzhi motherboard, 2x xeon 2678 v3 processors and 8x16GB (128GB) DDR3 ECC ram sticks running hackintosh. It smokes everything you throw at it.

      Here in Europe B450 destroyed that value. Those motherboards are to be had for around 50 euro's second hand, add a cheap 5500 or 5600 and you are at the same price as the Chinese aliexpress X99 system would go for. And a 5500 can be overclocked safely to 4.7 GHZ and run around 75 to 90 watts at that speed.

      We could do with a lot less e-waste and there are many people in poor countries for whom these boards and cpus represent a chance to buy and use something relatively modern. Heck, there are possibly American and European children who can't afford to pay $300 for an entry level B650 or B760 motherboard. For half that price, they get a CPU included in the deal so kudos to chinese engineers and manufacturers for keeping this trend going.

      As much as I enjoyed this video, and I love those interesting Xeon builds... I would recommend scouring the market place for a used B450 am4 motherboard. (around 100$ cad) a used Ryzen 1600 (around 50$ cad) New DDR4 3200 ram can be found as low as 50$ for 16 gigs.
      Your GTX 1060 is still decent. And you end up with a platform you can eventually upgrade to a 5600 or 5700 in the long run.

    • @Zesserie
      @Zesserie ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@CoolTI-Daniel I ahve to agree, the X79 route is not worth it anymore, the Xeons are far slower than any cheap 3xxx series ryzen and they can be had for about three times the price of the X79 parts.
      100~ USD compared to 300 USD(which is the price for a b450/A520 and a R5 5600)
      even better some ryzen stuff can be had for even less like old b350 boards and used 3xxx series. I got a b450 board for 40 usd and ryzen 3700x for 70 usd. thats a great build for cheap compared to old low clocked xeons.

    the FX 63xx and FX 83xx aged a lot better than the popular i3 and i5 chips that were priced around them in the 2013-2014 launch windows, those extra threads helped keep them a lot more relevant in the later parts of the twenty teens. But now that were screaming into the twenty twenties and a single core on a i9 13900ks can outperform all 8 cores of an FX chip it's definitely time to move off that as a main rig, first gen ryzen parts are so cheap on the market now I would prob go that route over the x79 since the upgrade path is better on those am4 systems vs the x79 systems. I still run some fx based APUs for messing around with stuff and for light work or older games they do just fine, but since they will never support newer windows they will be limited to windows 10 and linux for the foreseeable future.

    Platform is much cheaper, you may find socket 1150 boards being thrown away. 50% computational advantage on that FX chip. Some E3 V3 have onboard video too, usually the xxx5 and xxx6 models.
